Integral Theory: The 10 Stages of Human Consciousness Development

Through the lens of Ken Wilber's Integral Theory, Spiral Dynamics, and Ego Development Theory by Dr. Susanne Cook-Greuter, I describe the 10 stages of human ego/consciousness development. If you're like me, this framework will completely change your understanding of the world and of human nature.

Join the Soulful Synergy Sanctuary - A Free online community designed to foster personal and collective growth: soulful-synergy.circle.so/join?invitation_token=32e4b6004b943ae15f12781c60c856e38707cb44-4f796924-49d7-4856-bc0e-82fc6d362d3a Hey all! This community is designed to foster authentic connection among those on the path of personal and spiritual growth. I strongly believe in the idea of power in numbers. Each week, we will host connection calls designed to cultivate friendships among those seeking growth. There will be other events too on there, such as meditation hour, sharing resources, text chat, etc. The community was created in early April 2024, and I am hoping to have the weekly friendship calls up and running by late April! Your participation in these would be huge! Especially in the beginning stages when the community is just getting off the ground. I hope to see you in there!

I’m very glad you brought up the tendency for post-modern thinkers to get caught up in group think. What we need for a flourishing society is critically-thinking individuated beings.

I've been a Ken Wilber fan for nearly 30 years. I have two precautions for vertical development models. 1. It's when the chips are down that you really know where you're at functionally. Understanding 2nd tier doesn't mean you're at 2nd tier. 2. Greed, vanity, and envy will be right beside you all the way up the spiral.

nearly everyone I've every known who has had a high level of awareness had a nuanced view of capitalism and climate change, not that it was all bad or all good, and not that it was fundamentally a negative or primitive thing

My view is that Capitalism was necessary for a time, and now that time is beginning to end. I’m not advocating for an instant change or an uprising/violent revolution or anything like that…just gradual changes in mindsets away from the capitalist paradigm…also climate change is bad, given the assumption that we want to live on a healthy planet that can sustain life.

@@WyethSterling I work with quant economics all day and my assessment through the long term cycle is that capitalism, and more specifically markets, are a fundamental systems that have existed for billions of years(evolution, sexual selection mating market, etc.), I also work with predictive modeling and climate change models are fundamentally flawed in the ability to predict, but only outline a potential risk, most likely large variables are being missed and much of green technology is mostly emergently being created to avoid the self limiting oil shortage coming in the ~2050s, not in particular to save us from climate change, though maybe there is some risk to the carbon we have pumped into the atmosphere, we are nearly at the end of being able to keep doing it, every friend I have ever been close to has had an IQ over 130 and scored as high intuition on the MBTI, and generally agree with many of my viewpoints, so you can make up your mind for yourself about the level of awareness these assessments come from, consensus narratives fail to capture how complex many things are

I enjoyed your summary. it made me want to read the books now. While gaining some awareness of the stages might be a feature of late post modern, early integral, i very much doubt, that transcendence of ego, can be done at will. Given so much of our experience is unconscious, biologically, it has to be, other wise it would overwhelm the resources that our mind possesses. Something all on this path need to factor is spiritual bypassing, the tendency to reach beyond collaboration and relating to get to more cosmic worldviews. I think that mastering relationships is the key to move beyond dependence / attachment. We tend to try to skip that work because of our childhood trauma. But that trauma is part of this journey, and post traumatic growth is a thing.

Take some 5-MeO and you'll more than likely transcend ego at will. Well, up until the point of consumption. After that you just dissolve into infinity. It's short lived relative to time, but it leaves a massive imprint! Spiritual bypassing is also huge. When spirituality disconnects us from what really matters.

Congratulations for producing an excellent video. I wish, I would have had the chance to reach your level of consciousness already in your age range. My journey for reaching similar perspectives was full of detours and took me many decades longer. I assume that this is an indication of the now quite fast cultural evolution of humanity towards a higher level of consciousness in more and more individuals.

I try to seek what i felt when i entered ego death on ketamine a year ago with more minor things like meditation and weed but that truly transcendental experience is so frustratintly fleeting that I have to accept i probably will spend my whole life working towards it unless I somehow get my hands on ketamine again, and honestly going through drug induced ego death again is a bit off putting to me since its forcing your ego into a state of non duality which it may be premature to.

Power and the sense of superiority (resulting in sexism, racism) are infantile needs in individuals at lower stages. We should not approach fulfilling these needs with respect but set clear boundaries. From my perspective, these individuals are like small, boundary-less, egoistic children rooted in power. Since they, as members of a certain group, inherently possess more power from birth, they are unwilling to let it go. I see the insufficient setting of boundaries towards these groups more as a problem at the 'green' stage rather than the other way around. Starting from the 'green' stage onward, I see genuine understanding that people are in different stages, and a significant portion of them needs clear boundaries; otherwise, their egoism will quickly contribute to the decline of society. The speed of this decline and need for boudnaries appears differently in each social group, as each group is differently intensively threatened by the toxicity of lower layers. If the egos of individuals in lower stages are hurt due to the fear of losing power, I wouldn't be concerned. In my view, a more conscientious approach is to simply disregard their egos fearing the loss of power over others. This is because, historically, humanity has often done the exact opposite. Trust me, these kinds of people don't give a care about ego development; they believe they are fully developed and mature, and they don't question much the legitimacy of their power and superiority. Also its hard to change their brains in later age...

On a more serious note; non-dual experiences are an intriguing hard to express and illusive at first, but it’s almost as if by relinquishing the drive for said experience, you opens the door of possibility of to said experience.
