    Wow... this video had me in tears thinking about how medical racism and misogyny, doctors have completely failed me and so many people like me. I'm really excited to be equipped with this knowledge to truly begin my healing journey in earnest. I'm really grateful to have found this information now that I'm only 24 as opposed to people who don't learn about this until later in life. Also, it's INCREDIBLE how you don't focus on weight loss or restrictive diets which is really triggering as someone who is in recovery from an eating disorder... Thank you so so much. You're doing wonderful work!

    Thank you so much for this wonderful video! I have just been diagnosed with IR, and have likely had it for a long time..with no clue,until last October I started having little bouts of sweaty/shakiness,like I was hypoglycemic.. so fast forward- I’m finally relieved because now I know I’m not crazy, or just “fat and lazy”(yes I’ve had ppl who had known me years say horrible things and I couldn’t get better.I had all these other symptoms, that IR itself didn’t quite fit..something still wasn’t right..going over the past year,new skin tags(I was thinking I had cancer🙄 but still did nothing).patches of rough skin popping up on my normally soft and clear skin. My liver numbers are HIGH. (Bilirubin) and on and on..when I heard the PCOS signs and symptoms with IR, I felt like whoever wrote those signs & symptoms must be someone spying on me,daily! After I processed what I’d just watched and heard, I cried..so many years of feeling something is wrong, KNOWING something was wrong..and everyone missed it, because my A1c numbers look good. Not even pre diabetic range. And everyone-especially doctors it seems- aren’t very skilled in diagnosis of PCOS w/ IR. Even IR in general. If my APRN didn’t love me,and listen to me, as I’ve cried to her about there being something wrong, and she listened. She’s the last of a dying breed. Nurses that don’t want red tape and bureaucracy running their decisions, just want to care for, and help heal their patients. Unfortunately for us, Billions aren’t made from recovery, but chronic sickness.. sad.

I do have heritsim tho pretty bad but your video's have helped understand it more. I have always wanted to try yoga....I work out and lose a bunch of water weight but nothing more ..... Hi! Super informative video!! Just a couple questions: how long should you take inositol for? Are there side effects when you're on it/when you stop taking it? And with changing diet and exercise (no inositol) can you/and how long does it take to reverse insulin resistance/high testosterone and get back to normal periods?

  • @LiveFertile

    @LiveFertile

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi there! I really wish I could give you definitive answers but everyone is unique so I can’t say. The research and what I’ve seen in clinical practice suggests someone would need to be on inositol for at least three months to begin to see the full benefits. And because PCOS is a chronic condition, many supplements (but not all) are taken indefinitely. Your personal healthcare team will guide you on those details. I talk about the side effects in a different video all about inositol. You can search my channel to find it. And again, everyone is unique so how long it takes for someone to see improvements with lifestyle changes (which is more than just diet and exercise) alone, will be unique to them too. And for many people, lifestyle changes alone will not be enough. Sometimes bodies need some assistance. No shame in that! Hope that helps! Be well!

    Hey. Thank you so so so much for this video! It helped so much. I just had 2 questions, if you could help me with that please 1) what happens to all the extra insulin us girls who have PCOS in our blood stream? How does it go away if we have insulin resistance. 2) also does the insulin resistance make us more weak/fatigued which results to eating more which repeats the cycle... of insulin resistance. I read somewhere that your body stores all the food you eat as fat. So with insulin resistance how does your body get energy? What does it burn for energy.

    Sorry just following up with question 2, do we get extra fat around our body because our body stores the insulin as fat or because we eat too much or the wrong balance of foods?

  • @LiveFertile

    @LiveFertile

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi there 👋🏾 These are all very interesting and insightful questions. I don’t know for certain what happens to all of the insulin. My assumption is some of it is degraded, some of it remains in circulation, and some of it is metabolized and cleared from the body. And remember, insulin resistance isn’t absolute. Your cells may be more insulin resistant but it doesn’t mean your cells don’t don’t respond to it at all. Being insulin resistant would mean someone’s cells would have less access to energy which then would possibly make them search out energy/ crave high energy food. And as for the last question, insulin isn’t stored as fat. And weight is super complex. There are a lot of things at play. We all come in different sizes for different reasons. This page gives a decent overview of the role of insulin in the body: www.yourhormones.info/hormones/insulin/ And please remember, people go to school for years to fully understand these things. At the end of the day, it’s not necessary to understand this information at such a granular level to know how to improve your symptoms. Hope this helps!

  • @LiveFertile

    You're welcome! It can be confusing. PCOS doesn't have one known cause. It's likely a combination of genetics, environmental factors, intra-uterine programming, the gut microbiome, inflammation, and for some, insulin resistance (and probably a whole host of other things we just don't know yet.) I always recommend asking a provider for an oral glucose tolerance test if someone has PCOS. It's the best measure of insulin sensitivity for people with PCOS.

    People with PCOS are at an increased risk of developing diabetes but that doesn't mean that all people with PCOS will develop diabetes. There isn't a cure for PCOS but the insulin resistance can be addressed and improved. And doing so will improve the PCOS symptoms and reduce the risk of developing diabetes later in life.

    Is it generally a bad idea to take metformin and the supplement you were talking about at the same time? Or is that a question better suited for my doctor? Thank you so much for the wonderful additional resources! I appreciate you very much!

    Hi Amy! Some people do take both, but I would absolutely recommend talking to your provider, pharmacist, or dietitian before adding in inositol if you're taking metformin. They can help you find dosage that would be best for you, look out for signs of and manage hypoglycemia, and ensure that you're eating balanced meals with enough carbohydrates. Best wishes!

    Hi Irma 👋🏽Inositol can be taken at any point: before trying to conceive, while trying to conceive, during pregnancy, and postnatally. It's not only for people who are actively trying to conceive. Hope that answers your question! 😊

    How do you have a low carb, low sugar, low/no dairy diet and be on a very low fat diet ( fat bothers me ever since I had gall bladder removed)? In a healthy way?

    👋🏽Hi there! Interesting question. My first thought was, "Why so many limits? What would be the reason she needs to do low carb, low sugar, low/ no dairy, very low fat?" My approach to PCOS nutrition isn't restrictive at all. I'd encourage you to work one-on-one with a dietitian who specializes in PCOS to work through what sort of eating pattern would be the most beneficial for your unique needs. You might find you don't need to go low carb, low sugar, low/no dairy, very low fat after all. You might just need to pair things differently and focus on what to add more of to your meals and snacks 😊

    Does inositol help process sugars better? If so, can I take it and still eat fruit or is it better to just cut a lot of these fruits out period. I'm just concerned I can't get all my vitamins if I cut fruits out entirely and only eat veggies.

    Hi there! Hmm... I think the first thing to address, is the idea that you need to cut out all fruit. There's absolutely no reason you need to cut out any fruit (or food for that matter,) due to PCOS. I have an entire playlist all about the truth about carbs for PCOS. I highly recommend you take a look at it: kzread.info/dash/bejne/aoWFz5ujfqq9lJs.html I hope this helps!

    Hi there! Hmmm... I think anything is possible. Each person is so unique. I don’t know that I’d immediately think inositol and metformin were the cause, though perhaps if the person then began to have low blood sugar, I could see how they could contribute. I’d have to know so much more about someone’s labs, lifestyle habits, and health history to pinpoint what could be behind the change. I hope you’re able to work with someone one-on-one to dig a bit deeper. Best wishes!

    Many of my clients take it indefinitely, including before trying to conceive, while trying to conceive, during pregnancy, and after giving birth. They're being monitored by me and their other providers so if any side effects pop up, we can catch them and adjust accordingly. Since everyone is so different, I encourage you to discuss any supplement use with your provider and pharmacist. Be well!

    Hi there! Everyone has different body sizes. Some people are naturally larger, some are naturally smaller. I really can’t tell you how to gain weight. I will also say, insulin resistance is affected by a number of things (sleep, stress, activity, inflammation, overall dietary pattern, medicine, supplements, etc.) Cutting foods is rarely the answer. I highly recommend talking to your healthcare team and watching my videos on insulin resistance. Be well!

    Hi Tolu. Sounds like you've had a really rough go. I'm sorry to hear that. To diagnose PCOS, you have to be seen by a healthcare provider. They have to do blood tests, an ultrasound, and ask about your health history and symptoms to make a diagnosis. It's important to see someone rather than self-diagnose or ask someone who hasn't seen you one-on-one because only a provider can rule out other causes for your symptoms. There are other conditions that can causes similar symptoms. I hope you find the answers you're looking for.

    I'm so so sorry this has been your experience. You deserve better care than that. Have you asked your doctors to document in your chart the labs and ultrasound they have done to rule out PCOS or a thyroid condition? It can also be helpful to reach out to a patient advocate, care coordinator, or social worker to help you get the answers you need. I really hope everything works out for you.

    insulin resistance causes excess androgens, or excess androgens causes insulin resistance in PCOS? The research is still not clear as to why and how PCOS develops (other than hinting at genetic and environmental factors playing a part). I think it's important to understand what causes what - because depending on what the root cause is, the treatment (and outcomes) might vary.

  • @LiveFertile

    The chicken or the egg questions pops up again! Which came first?!?! I haven't personally read any research that suggests high androgens cause insulin resistance, but I have read research explaining how high insulin can cause the ovaries to overproduce androgens. I'll keep my eyes peeled. Ultimately, if someone is experiencing both high androgens and insulin resistance, both can be addressed (and probably should be addressed) at the same time. Thanks for your comment!
