Man I never heard something so true as you said here Niels, awesome video 🎱🙏
Man I had to laugh when the PayPal emblem asking for donations popped up while you were talking about notifications popping up while you’re trying to focus. Love your content my dude. Love watching your videos and have always loved watching you shoot. Thanks for all your help with my pool game
This is a great tip Niels! I was playing in an APA league this past weekend and I sat in a corner away from my team so I can focus on my own game. I had my eyes glued to the table making plans and patterns while waiting for my turn to shoot.
Great advice. This is one thing I don't have to worry about. I focus 100% on my game. Keep all these great tips coming. You are the best.
Great video as always Niels. Using focus mode on the iphone is a good method as well. You can set it up to basically be silent but allow notifications to come through without alerting you, that way when you're finished practicing or playing; anything you received will be there waiting and not coming through all at once as would be the case when you switch off airplane mode. Another good idea is using your fitness tracker, phone or otherwise to track your game. I start a workout before practicing and playing just to track my heart rate, after the "workout" I review the heart rate data to see how I did, if I got flustered or had problems concentrating etc
In the US is called “Airplane Mode”
Your suggestion could/should fit many situations. Many people can't think in a linear fashion (i.e. following an argument). We live by our emotions, and the phone just encourages it. Sadly, we will never, as a society, get back to not being distracted by all the beeps and buzzes. So, focusing is something we need to work, and it can be hard work. Thanks!
I’ve only been playing a year, couldn’t care less about my phone when I’m at the table playing. I play for so long then remember I need to eat lunch 😂
No matter what i need to improve on, Niels has a video for it. Thank you!
Another great video thanks Niels!
Niels for the last month you have been reading my mind on videos!! I will say “I need to work on X” and the next day you post a video on it! Thank you for all you do! I think I have watched all your videos, and want to ask you: how do you avoid “burn-out” where you don’t feel as motivated to play because you have been practicing a lot? How much practice is too much? Is there a way amateurs should practice who are looking to up their game? Thank you Terminator!
Thanks! Always enjoy your videos. Keep em coming.

Hi Neils. When I am in an important match I solely focus on that, NOTHING ELSE.. I tell my teammates not to speak to me and not to comment on any shot I make or miss until that match is complete. Also I refuse to make eye contact with anyone at all. My team, their team or anyone watching the match. NO Eye contact. I find it distracting and I find myself engaging with them visually it makes my mind wander.. I look down at the floor while sitting and parctice boxed breathing until it is my turn at the table.. Love your lessons and insight into how to play and enjoy pool! Keep up the good work!!
Thanks Niels!!

Another great lesson terminator!! 🎱🎱🎱
Taking about focus, and all i can see in my mind is the funny image of efren with burgers and phone in his hands doing the "igotlucky" dance. 😒 There goes my concentration 😆
100% .... Pay attention to the game you are playing --- and keep that focused attention! Be Safe
Hi Niels! Where did you get your "Pool Light" I love it I want to buy. Thanks
I love how you’re talking about notifications and then the PayPal donation comes up 😆
Awesome video Niels! Definitely agree 100% about how much of a distraction this has become. Especially for the younger generation. Keep up the great work and I'll see you at the US Open bro! =)

I am a B player and I just wrote a comment to Niels about how I shut my phone off. I will be there as well in Atlantic City and taking off of work on Wednesday, October 12th! I live on the coast of New Jersey. In Island Heights by Toms River. AC is only an hour south of me. Both you and Niels are great ambassadors of the game!

Great advice! I leave my phone in the truck when I play👍
Thank you holmes
I turn my phone off and stay "in the zone." At the very least, put it on silent. Looking at only the table, it's important to put together an executed run out plan. Thanks for the tips. I am a B player striving to get better.
Devices are nuisance, but how do you deal with the entertainers and barkers at the pool hall. I think this topic has several chapters.
Very good, I get distracted easily by people coming into the pool room and then my phone goes off
Last monday I participated in the local weekly tournament for the first time after summer break. I was cueing well but was out after two games because of a few stupid mistakes due to lack of focus. Between the games I was on my phone even though I knew it was gonna harm my form. Not scrolling your phone is especially hard in tournaments that take the whole night and have long breaks between games but that's what needs to be done if you want to win.

I don’t understand how using your phone in between matches harms your game. During the match, for sure.
@KingStibroz
Жыл бұрын
@@kevinbeazy It affects your vision. It will take time to adjust your sight and aiming after being on the phone. The games in the Monday tournament are very short so there's not really any room to give that small edge to your opponent.
How your tournament is going?
So strue 👌 The world has become insane with this obsession of the cellular. Ppl walk, drive, bike and u name it, with the phone in theirs hand and texting and playing etcetera etcetera.. They go to bed with the phone, wake up with the phone.. Its just insane.. 🤡
I've told my match partner all the time, but some people will never learn... And as soon as third teammate enters, they are talking all the time. Sometimes even when they are down on the next ball.

This is also referred to as Airplane Mode. Additionally, iPhones have a feature called Do Not Disturb.
How do you get that focus back when you make a high run in a straight pool practice session and then have to start over after a silly miss ? That’s been difficult for me.
What is (flight mode)?
Ive watched your video but im still not answered..... My problem is not the phone or notifications, but its those thoughts that come to my mind when im down on the table, thoughts like... you have trainned, this ball is tough, or envisaging my self being at a big game but ill be at a traimning session, or thinking about something personal. Question is is how do we clear our minds. And just focus on potting the object ball.
What about when the opponent start talking to you or to himself and take you out of concentration?
When I'm in a match, I empty my pockets. Phone, keys, wallet, etc. My phone is always on silent, so I don't hear any notifications. During the match, I position myself on the opposite side of the table and focus on the game in front of me. The problem I have is my mental stamina runs out quickly. I was just in a tournament this weekend. Started Friday night and went through to today. I was eliminated last night and part of it was because I was mentally and physically drained. I just couldn't focus. I was making silly mistakes. So I know what I need to work on. Mental stamina and endurance. I just don't know how.
I practice with music playing to replicate what is going on in taverns or even many pool halls. I admit I listen to my favorite music! Question should I practice with no music?

I would suggest not because most settings in league pool are bar with people. Only pro tournament finals are quiet. So practicing with headphones or any other "certain" type settings can possibly be a deterrent when it's time to play. I would say practice how you like to play but focus on your game.
I quit completion 9 ball 1995 and many rules have changed. What is the current rules on breaking in tournaments (alternate, winner, loser breaks?). And who racks an official or the one breaking or the loser of the game & is there a specific order of all balls now or not only requirement 1 & 9? Thank you. Btw you have a bunch of great videos for people.

Thank you!! Pretty much all the rack and break options above are still in place except loser breaks 😄 9 is on the spot now in most of the pro events

@@NielsTheTerminatorFeijen. Great thanks for getting back to me. And that’s good with 9 ball loser breaks and 9 on the spot is interesting now too. Thinking I might play in another open at some point. Cheers

Do you have drills/tips for missing the first ball after the break? I'll plan things out and see the pattern but get down on potentially simple first ball and miss.

Give the same attention to an easy shot as to a hard one.
Hi Neil, what about the distraction that comes from general audience, teammates or friends that always know better about whatever mistake you did and try to school you in the middle of the match?
@brewer3401

Yes. I don't have distractions from iPhone. Sometimes I get up to shoot and completely forget how to shoot. Kind of like "what is this long piece of stick doing in my hand". Practice I do very well. Think it is possibly nerves distracting me from free-wheeling and just doing what I know how to do.
I think we may have seen you reach "total consciousness" at 3:50 😆
Where are you? Here What time is it? Now What are you? This moment. - Dan Millman, Way of the Peaceful Warrior
there is also my first video below .
You see this all the time in league. End of inning, straight to phone or watching the game on TV.
sadly, most of my distractions do not have a flight mode button
i will help you realize that you have been chosen to be the Pool God of this cycle.
Can you give me the quick 30 second rundown on what happened in this video? I got distracted...
But earl strickland can talk to the audience and still play well ?
No wonder you never answered my calls. Your phone was off.

6min video about flight mode button :) Come on now, the issue is not always about the phone, I expected other focus related aspects as well.
