Instant Pot Spaghetti (with or without meat!) | How to Cook Spaghetti in the Pressure Cooker

RECIPE: detoxinista.com/instant-pot-s...
Instant Pot Spaghetti isn't faster than stove-top cooking, but it's totally hands-off for busy folks! No need to wait for a pot of water to come to a boil first.
Update: Readers have reported a 3-minute cooking cycle working well for this, so try that to avoid mushy pasta. The pasta, water, and sauce cook in the pot, all at the same time! Most recipes online show you how to make it with a meat sauce, but I’m showing you a second vegetarian version (with lentils for plant based protein) if you want to try it that way, too.
FYI- make sure you NEVER “quick release” pasta. Skip to the 2:55 mark in this video to see what happens if you do. (Spoiler: it makes a MESS on your kitchen counters!) The Instant Pot is supposed to make your life easier, so make sure you follow this tried-and-true cooking method for a mess-free, fast dinner!
This one-pot meal works best with regular or whole wheat noodles, but I include tips for using gluten-free spaghetti, too! Just keep in mind that the cooking time and method are different, so read the directions closely before you make substitutions.

Tasty!!! Added olives, cheese n salt after. Thanks. This is the easiest recipe for potluck! I can't imagine how you would get the pasta properly cooked in a pressure cooker. Al dent pasta is a big part of it's appeal. I don't think I'll waste my time trying this. It only takes 10 to 15 minutes to get perfectly cooked pasta. Might cook the sauce in the cooker although I don't see an advantage to that either.

Spaghetti 🍝 with meat Recipe: (for pressure cookers) Ingredients: 1 lb of ground beef 1 lb of spaghetti sauce 1 lb of spaghetti noodles 2 cups of water 0:34 Press the saute button Add olive oil (or any oil that you prefer) Add ground beef Add any seasonings that you like (optional) Once done cooking meat. Drain any excess fat. Make sure no meat is stuck to bottom of pan. Use a little bit of water to help. Break spaghetti noodles to fit in pressure cooker. Make sure the noodles are spread out and layered on top of each other to prevent sticking to each other and cooking properly. Poured two cups of water over noodles Then add spaghetti sauce on top of the noodles. Close the lid and make sure our all seals are closed. Cook on high pressure for 4 minutes. Takes about 10 minutes for the pressure to be Build up before cooking. Then takes another 10 minutes for the pressure to release. Entire cook time should take about 30 minutes according to this video anyways.

I don't believe that I'll ever try this again in the pressure cooker/ instapot. I'll just continue with the old fashioned way and cook it over the stove. I am here to defend this recipe as I ended up enjoying the pasta (though I did use 1/2 less cup of water as I anticipated it would not be to my own liking and also adopted the updated cooking time). I mean it's via an Instant Pot so I did not anticipate great restaurant quality and flavors but rather a low maintenance way of making pasta with meat. This is an Instant Pot meal for busy people after all: fast, easy and low maintenance to not watch over obsessively and clean and people are forgetting that. If you don't like a certain ingredient or amount of it, then adjust to your liking and that's any recipe. So I am here to praise Detoxinista for providing this educational YT for us! There was good bite to the rigatoni pasta that I used and the pasta sauce flavor was so well infused into the pasta. My only gripe was the vid did not show the amounts needed; it's in the link to the recipe but we live and we learn!

Sorry, this recipe is indefensible, from every point of view. Apart from the fact that breaking spaghetti is a crime (don't you suspect that if they were to be broken they would sell them already broken?), apart from the fact that they are insanely overcooked, let's talk about the cooking time. The video says, if I'm not mistaken, that it takes about 25-30 minutes to cook this stuff: now, how long do you think it takes to cook a plate of pasta in the normal way? The time for a pot of salted water to boil plus the cooking time of the pasta, and if you are a busy person and don't have much time to cook, in the meantime you can make a tomato sauce (or, even simpler, a garlic and oil sauce) in a few minutes. And if you can't cook or if you're too tired to do it, you can even get a ready-made sauce: no matter how industrial and low-quality it may be, at least the pasta won't look like a shapeless heap of glue. I do not doubt that this pot can be useful, certainly for some recipes you will be able to obtain good results with reduced times, but for pasta it is not absolutely necessary, at best it is a completely useless complication.

@@tommo3190 Hi! We've been enjoying this recipe and many other pasta recipes in our instant pot, like this one, since we came across this awesome video 2 yrs ago! Don't knock it, if you haven't tried it! It's completely customizable from the meat, to what sauce you add, and yes, even the type of and time of cooking you use for the pasta you choose. I would start with a test of only pasta to see what time works for you. I'd suggest beginning with 5 or 6 minutes, but I personally wouldn't exceed 8 minutes. You're mainly cooking the pasta, so whatever that time is will be how long you'll cook everything together. Oh and the pro tip she gives about putting the meat on the bottom (if you're using it) can be the difference between a flawless execution and a burn notice lol. So if you're game, I encourage you to try it out and report back and let the original poster and me know what you think about it. Have an awesome time cooking and a great rest of your day! 💕🥰 (Oh and I only break my pasta in half for long noodles like fettuccine or spaghetti, no smaller. But again it's all preference.)

@@tommo3190 it's the exact same ingredients as you would use if cooking it on the stove top. (Maybe minus the breaking of the pasta for some people.) There's no preservatives or additives like you'd find in a canned pasta meal, especially if you use your own homemade pasta sauce. But again, you'd have to try it to be able to give me a full evaluation. If you cook it a minute or two less, and maybe keep your noodles a little longer, I think it may look more appealing. But again it's preference, and you obviously have strong feelings about your pasta dishes. I respect that.

If you do this, quick release the pressure so they don't sit in that hot pot while it cools down naturally that way nothing overcooks. and also, this goes without saying, dont try and open the lid on a pressurized instant pot.

  • @DetoxinistaRecipes

    @DetoxinistaRecipes

You are welcome to cook them on the stove, instead! This is simply an option for people who can't watch the stove-- like parents with young children. I do try to get the noodles out of the pot as fast as possible, but you DO have to wait for the pot to depressurize before you remove the lid for safety. I hope no one would attempt to open the lid before the pressure is completely removed.

@@DetoxinistaRecipes im not saying dont cook pasta in a instant pot. dont misunderstand. just if you do it, quick release the pressure so that you can get the pasta out of that hot instant pot so they dont overcook. you mentioned in the video waiting for the pressure to reduce naturally, this might work really well for some foods, but just not for pasta especially boxed pasta (fresh pasta even overcooked tends to be somewhat chewy whereas boxed pasta turns completely into gluey mush). As it turns out a 5 minute cook time for boxed pasta in an instant pot results in perfect al dente pasta if the pressure is released quickly. And yeah i would hope that noone would attempt to just open the lid on a pressurized pressure cooker, they are gonna have a real real bad day.

  • @DetoxinistaRecipes

@@ronjohnson2760 A lot of pasta recipes out there for the Instant Pot call for a 6 or 8 minute cooking cycle-- and in that case, it makes sense to use a quick release because you don't want the pasta in there any longer! But, I prefer to use a really short pressure cooking cycle (usually 3 minutes is plenty), and then let the foamy, starchy water settle a bit with a brief natural release. That way there isn't a mess all over the lid with starchy water shooting out as the pressure releases. It could actually be dangerous to perform a quick release with things that create starch in the Instant Pot (like grains and pasta) because the starch can clog the vent and prevent the pressure from releasing. Either way, the pasta is in the pressure cooker for roughly the same amount of time, I just prefer my method so that I don't have to meticulously clean the lid or my kitchen counters every time I cook pasta.

You can make good homemade sauce in under an hour, you don't need anything like 3-4 hours. Here - www.mentalfloss.com/article/544003/pasta-sauce-hailed-worlds-best-surprisingly-easy-make-home Follow that super-simple recipe. It is good as more of a base; I personally think it's nice but still a little plain as it is in the recipe. I made it even better by including a couple of bay leaves, a drizzle of honey and a little bit of garlic. Highly recommend. Have some of this sauce ready and just cook some UNBROKEN spaghetti in a normal, good-sized pot. Do not rinse the pasta, do NOT add any cooking water to your sauce. All you will do is water it down. If sauce is made properly, you never need to add any pasta water. With sauce already on hand, especially sauce this good, it is so fast an easy to make good pasta, the normal and right way in a normal and right pot.

This was all wrong from start to finish, please no one follow this, go learn how to cook instead.
