Cool. You interviewed the right person. Hopefully we can learn something.
PV + EV combo is a no brainer for Malaysia. Your typical commute is well within the range of any EV and you're not polluting the air while stuck in jams. You do need more L3 charging for inter-state travel.
12.5kWp is quite a big system! Well done.

Agree. It’s quite big but prospective house owners can always start small and add more panels down the line as the economics improve.
Thanks for the informative sharing, just what I'm looking for. Thank you Daren and boss Farhan.
Very nicely setup and thanks for sharing! Indeed i am inspired! 😊
Thanks for sharing... I also installed solar panel+ Lgchem battery pack+ tesla 22kw wallbox at my house... And you know what?.. my electricity bill is minus- because of energy transfer back to national grid when not using it... It is so convenient... Government incentive on wall box seems to pay off... Not only can run your house but everyone house as well

Should also take into consideration car maintenance short and long term wise
Unfortunately, the housing grid & sub-stations in Malaysia is not designed to supply 22kW of electricity per household. Just imagine if 20% of the households served by the same sub-station draws 22kW at night, you can expect power tripping every single day

This is great info, anyone knows any good solar panel installation companies in the klang valley?
Hi Daren, the setup with additional cable with CEE3 socket, can it charge 2 cars simultaneously using only one wall charger?
still adapting mind to how many chargers wire needed in current life..here go another wire needed..
i do wish same setting as your house during renovation, but problem is not all the wiring man will do the ev charging installation, even if they do it, still need to consider the potential of catching fire if charging overnight.(😢)

Hey Kelvin. Farhan's home installed a surge protector for additional safety. There hasn't been any major safety issues for Tesla Wall Connectors globally since it was publicly released more than a decade ago in 2012.
If solar power high efficiency must be worth it. Just wondering, the solar under tnb? Maintenance cost yearly?
This content is superb! As I am rebuilding my house now I am going to setup the same. 100Amp 3 phase with solar panel. Any recommended solar system? I would order same tesla charger

I suggest that you get a dual glass bifacial solar panel 400-500w N-type or TopCon Mono Half-Cut Perc 182mm 16BB 108 Cells that the module efficiency-m(%) is >22.0% (it only cost +-RM500-600 ea.) this solar panel is most expensive in terms of cash flow because normally a grade-B panel which is a Monofacial panel (that only absorbs sunlight on 1 surface rather than bifacial; absorbs sunlight on both sides. A grade-B Monofacial panels cost around RM450-500 it generates lesser than Topcon cells by only 330w output generated out of a 450w panels for instance. The difference will be noticeable from a power system of 12.5kWh once it generates 25-30% more it will be increased to 16.25kWh Setup : put the solar panel on ground fix or flat roof placement that is 3ft above the ground and 3 inch gap side by side this will increase the output efficiency by 25% , say a 450w panels you will get 480-530w depending on the forecast; solar panel placement syncing with sun orientation whereas the energy-heat conversion loss factor is applied. A solar-generated power system sized of 12.5kWh like Mr. Farhan would be adequate it depends on how much you're really willing to put money on to invest.

What if raining? It seem like your charging spot at the most outer side of your house. For sure the rain will hit your charging spot while charging.
Hi Darren, is it possible to ask Farhan what is the wire size of the wiring to the Tesla Gen3 Wall Connector. I presume he is running 3 phase (meaning 4 wires + earth). Thanks a million.

Tesla recommends keeping your car plugged in to a charger if you're away for long periods of time. You can also consider letting family and close friends use it. You can control car access using the Tesla app.
EV's are touted as non polluting...but people forget the environmental damage done producing batteries for EV's...n plz remember studies have shown EV's involved in accidents are prone to electrical fires due to the batteries😊😊😊

How much price spend for 1km travelling?
extra RM300 per mth in electricity bill for 2 EVs much more cheaper than petrol usage
what happen when its raining? do we need to unplug the charger or it is waterproof?

Tesla charge ports are water resistant and it's okay to charge under light rain. However, it's best to minimize water contact as much as possible.
One day I would have my own EV car and my target is BYD ATTO 3 for daily use...2nd car/spare car will be ICE engine, which was my current car, Proton Saga 4AT

It's a lot slower and sometimes you want faster AC charging especially with multiple EVs in your household, or if you're coming back from a long road trip. Most people use the 3 pin connector for emergencies during road trips.

Goverment.. its time to increase the electrik charge.... 😊
ok What if your car stalled in the middle of the road
But wouldnt savings incur from petrol increases your house electricity tariff instead. Previously 1k was charged on your credit card to fill petrol , now rm600 is added to your house electricity which increases its tariff and end up costing you more. Someone please do the math for me.

Depending on how far you drive per year ( 20k to 30k km/year) as well as your ICE car's fuel efficiency , you can save between Rm 1k to Rm 2k a year using EV. Which means getting back the cost of your Home EV charger investment within 3-5 years.

Yes, this video was filmed in Dec 2022.
Solar panel payback period is short only when your electric consumption is very high. For normal to low consumption, it could take 10-15 or more years.
@ernielok2008
12 күн бұрын
If you size your solar system to your usage, it should have a similar payback period.
What are single phase and 2 phase thingy ? Lol
@NetMaestro2009
11 ай бұрын
If you mean what is the difference between 1-phase and 3-phase (not 2), it is the two different type of electrical supply wiring methods available. For low electrical consumption homes (like single storey terrace house), 1-phase is sufficient. But if you have a bungalow and multiple aircons, EV chargers etc etc, better to have 3-phase wiring so the electrical supply capacity is more (and safer). You can upgrade a 1-phase installation to a 3-phase one with application to TNB (in Malaysia) and a qualified electrician to do the wiring and upgrading of DB (distribution board) and a whole bunch of other stuff that needs to be done.
This guy work in oil and gas...most likely

More costly need installation, use more energy as such, need to wait for charging. Mileage can not cover long destinations and loss of time, whereby Petrol just pumped full and moved on. From Singapore to Malacca, 2hr 30min 280km. Can Tesla cover that mileage? Without changing.
the electrical will be as high as the mountain!
Tesla just depre 30%.. no need APs grey imports!!
If Malaysians can afford the prices of solar panel and wall connector, myvi will out of the market to face BYD seagull...
13:19 Correction. Under NEM, you don't make money because TNB doesn't buy our generated power. They use it to offset our consumption. The grid is simply acting as a battery that stores the power to no more than 12 months. Beyond that, the power is lost.

Look at in totality i.e. you are using greener energy. However, like someone else said in the comments elsewhere, there are still some negative environment impacts associated with EV (use of rare earth elements involving destructive and polluting mining methods) battery, disposal/recycling when end-of-life etc. Hydrogen cell technology is touted as the better option but its still some ways to go before being ready for prime-time.
no agree
Very hard to understand the English 😂
Everyone EV EV EV does anyone speak the truth? Initial buying the car already not cheap. Yes can save a bit of money if compared to petrol, How about the replacement of the battery COST? why every one review EV car afraid to mention. Don't hide the fact and tell the truth. After 1 or 2 year the battery will degrade and did not hold the charge like new battery so the mileage will reduce too, the additional frequent charging also cost extra money. I am hybrid car user and i know the pain.
Do not charge the car inside the garage!!!
Sorry to say... Trying to save the earth by using EVs is BS. I understand the science behind making an EV, ICE car, and solar panel. But I do like the torque from an EV, cheaper mileage and the overall package of a Tesla.
EV ni mengarut sebenarnya. Looks good on paper jaa. Kos nak pasang charger tu saja dah 4,5 ribu. Belum harga kereta lagi. Sama macam nak pasang solar, bukannya murah. Memang jimat tak pakai minyak, tapi tak jimat pengunaan elektrik dan duit kau pun. Konon2 nak membantu alam sekitar, tapi lithium ion battery tu ingat boleh petik cam buah saja kaa?
