Installing the LS V8 in my Jeep Wrangler!

LS Swap Playlist: • Jeep Wrangler LS Swap
Its time to install the 5.3 LS into my Jeep Wrangler LJ! In the last video, we pulled out the old 4.0 engine and prepped to install the new engine.
For those who are new to the channel, I am installing a 2006 Gen3 5.3 LS engine into my Jeep. The goal is to keep this budget friendly, while still being an amazing swap. In the first few videos, i tore down the engine to do a good cleaning and inspection. The followed up with a few new parts and a nice Camshaft from Texas Speed.
In this video, its time to take a look at some of the transmission modifications that are needed to run this 4L60E with the Jeep 231 Transfercase.
I chose to go with the Advance Adapters Kit. They have been making parts for this swap for a very long time, and they have got it down to a science!
The Advanced Adapters kit comes with everything we will need to make this transmission work. Not only does it allow us to bolt up the transfercase, it allows us to use the GM VSS (Vehicle speed sensor) that is needed for the GM computer. We will still be using the speed sensor on the Jeep Transfer Case for the Speedometer too.
Like I mentioned, AA sends a new 27 Spline tcase input shaft so it matches up to the transmission. That install will be shown in another video since we still have to install the Advanced Adapters Slip Yoke Eliminator at the same time.
AA also makes another adapter option. They sell a 23 spline kit which replaces the Transmission output shaft, this has to be installed by a transmission shop (or a very knowledgeable transmission friend), this is due to the fact that the transmission has to be fully opened up to install it. This kit can be a good idea if you plan on getting your transmission rebuilt anyways. The 23 spline kit is slightly stronger and gives you a shorter overall length (Great for you TJ owners).
Next up it was time to get the LS Swap engine mounts ready. I wanted to use the Advance Adapter mounts, however they require a 4" lift since they keep the engine lower for better Center of Gravity. I don't really want to lift the jeep any higher, so i decided to try out the Holley Hooker engine mounts.
The Holley engine mounts are more expensive, and they do mount the engine pretty high, but they are said to work with minimal suspension lift.
If you plan on doing this swap, then make sure to have a 2 ton hoist at minimum. The 1ton simply doesn't have the depth needed to put the LS engine in the Jeep.
I hope you guys enjoyed the video, please give it a thumbs up and leave a comment.

Make sure you guys are subscribed and have notification turned on! And a lot of people have commented, yes we installed the Torque converter incorrectly, huge mistake on our part (that’s what we get for trying to make things easier). More to explain on that in the next Swap video. problems with fords.??..theres more with chev. why dont you fit an nv4500, auto,s are dangerous for 4x4 ing,DOWN HILL,LEDGES. i have a s/duty,4.2tdi,with a ZF 5 sp., first low goes no where,i have to drive it. plus,i dont have d35,s that blow. or your steering brkts that break off.why couldnt you use the chev transfer, your fitting a weak jeep transfer to a 350 hp engine,.not a good thing,at least ford boxes & transfers are built to take the highest hp motor. 460ci 450 hp..theres also clocking rings you could of used. but,im in aus,so you should know best..your next upgrade after being towed back to shop,2 ford s/duty diffs. if,you sold the jeep,& bought a nissan gu,then fitted the LS, you would have no problems with drive train..& a more capable rig..

I think u should go with paint and if u want to keep it red I think jk deep cherry red orr 99 xj chilly pepper red
Once you're done you need to make a video that solely covers everything you had to purchase for the swap. I think it will definitely encourage other people to do a swap like this in the future including myself.
I really appreciate that Cassie and Ben do their own work.
8:41 I sure hope you lined up the torque converter and didn't snug it upto the block with the bolts. If you didn't, you just broke the pump in the front of the trans.
It is so cool to see Cassie working on the her jeep like she is. Best part is when you two talk you both understand what it is all about. Keep up the great videos!
Y’all are making great progress. Can’t wait to see it finished!
DIY the paint job. Awesome video. I learn so much from you and Ben's channel. Thank you!!!

you guys have a great family , keep up the good work.
Awesome job! And I do have to say Ben is a lucky guy. Smart, pretty, can turn wrenches, and welds. Damn
Love the videos. Now I’m ready to start my project 😊
Nobody's perfect. I think you guys are doing an amazing job!
My 2006 LJ was in the same boat and needed a paintjob and some rust repair. I chose to go with Raptor Liner in Basalt Gray. It turned out great and really brought the Jeep back to life. I did it in my driveway with an older 30 gal compressor and didn't have any issues.
Idea for yall, flatten front tires. Gives you extra angle to put engine back in.

um......you installed the converter on the fly wheel first?.......how were you able to seat it into the trans?????.....you may have just crushed the pump !!??
RAPTOR LINER ...I did my 07 jk interior and exterior ... amazing finish, extremely durable for all weather and easy to clean

Keep her red!!! Great video. Impatiently waiting for the next video.
You continue to impress and great roll model for all the gals out there
Awesome partnership with the installation.
Raptor liner would be amazing and I really enjoy the fact that you do it all yourself and not have a team behind you building it for you.(built not bought) Keep up the good work very inspiring. Cheers
Nice, I am not sure what anyone else has to say, but it's nice to see you involved with the upgrade. I am sure you are having fun with the upgrade.
I vinyl wrapped my TJ. It was a super fun project for my wife and I. It came out really clean. I’ve had it for almost a year now and it’s held up through tree branches and rubber flapper blade drive through car washes. 10/10 would recommend 3m vinyl
Can't wait for the rest of the swap videos!
Wow that LS looks so good in there. I have been pondering the idea of an LS swap for my TJ and you all are making it hard to say no. lol . I personally would do a wrap that way you could change it every few years to a different color . Just a suggestion . Looking forward to your next video . Take care and be safe guys.
This is a lot fun to watch. I'm looking forward to seeing and hearing it run. My vote on paint is not to do that. Just do a really cool wrap. That way you can change it up every few years. I'm thinking about that for my Jeep. I've got a 3.8 so looking forward to Ben's Hemi swap.
enjoy your channel been a mechanic for 50 years never seen such clean knuckles and finger nails
Love the video. Cannot wait for the next one. If it were my jeep, I would do a tinted raptor liner. They can make those many colors...
Your awesome I can"t believe how good you do with tools.
If you must paint it, colored bed liner/raptor liner would be my choice. That way you won’t be afraid to get after it on the trails.
Raptor lined my 2009 jku absolutely love it best thing I've done to my Jeep
I can watch u all day 😊
MONSTALINER!!! jeeps done with monstaliner always look really good. you can get paint chips from them to check the colors you might want. Their chassis saver is incredible too if you need any of that
I'm in the same boat regarding the paint with my 04' Rubicon. I almost pulled the trigger on raptor liner, but had second thoughts. Once it's on there, there's no going back, and I still have good paint on the doors and quarters. I've been leaning towards repainting the troubled surfaces here lately, still indecisive though.
Raptor Red looks real good. Spray it on use fine coat looks great.
My buddy used the bed liner stuff on the outside of his Toyota Tacoma and it looks really good. He never worries about scratches on the trail.
Nice work! Can't wait to see it together!
Looking good. My buddy just used the Holley motor mounts in his LJ.
Can't wait to see the LJ back on the road!

So cool to see your kids running around in this video
Go with the Kevlar coating!! Y’all are awesome and much inspiration to my wife and I ...
Raptor liner looks good I did it on my tj and have had it for a while and it hasn’t faded at all and looks awesome
Tintable red raptor liner! Love the red and black theme
I second the motion on the high lines for front travel and painting at home again stock red.
Great video guys helped out alot.
Heck yeah, Ben gettin Jazzy with his camera work @1:31
I think of this whole swap, the hardest things for me to do would be the mounts (I have a welder, but I suck) and the electrical. It's nice to see how easy you guys make it look though! There is also a TON of room in that engine bay, which is pretty suprising!
@MaverickXeo
3 жыл бұрын
Also, as for painting - 99% of the work is prep. I personally would keep it the same colour (no issues with painting door frames, engine bay, etc) and I would honestly stay away from boxliner just because it is very hard to clean. It always looks good at first, but a few years down the road it looks pretty rough.
She's getting good at this man !!
I like your videos; I don’t have the skill set to even attempt this on my own and would be terrified of breaking something, causing more work for myself and ultimately spending more money. 😂. Thanks for sharing 👍🏼
Great progress! As for paint, keep it red. Paint it yourself, one section at a time if need be. Just my suggestion. It's gonna be a long wait 'till next update, looking forward to it.
Holy crap! Organized shop!
Looking good! Red Jeeps Rock!
You're pretty talented Gal - I just ordered a full size Bronco Badlands pretty loaded can't wait to get it but I will be waiting I'm afraid
Great progress! 😎
Anything but pink or black ... the red always looks great
My wife and I literally just got done discussing getting rid her Ford because of all the transmission issues and then Ben had his input. Perfect timing.
Go with a vinyl wrap! Add a blooper or two at the end as well. I’m sure you and Ben have plenty. Lol Great videos guys. Keep them coming!
We are actually looking at raptor liner ourselves for my wife's jeep. Going two tone Blue and Black. Would love to see you guys do a raptor liner. I've personally seen great results with people using it, even years later.
we did blue raptor liner on our 07 jku and it turned out great!
Good job Cassie! Since you’re thinking about refinishing the outside, how about pulling the motor one more time and painting the engine bay? The engine looks really nice, it would be a shame to set it in an old dirty engine bay. As far as repainting the body, you and Ben could pull it off!
Red raptor liner would look sick. And it would be an easy home project.
Another awesome video!
I say do the raptor liner. You can even do a 2 tone with it. Awesome job on the engine install, looks classy. 😁
Keep the stock red. No Raptor liner. DIY in the garage, can't be any worse than the delam paint on it now & probably much better. Good luck!
Just watch this again for like the fourth time, love the video. But I got to thinking that if it was me, I would’ve pulled the fenders off completely. The last engine swap I did was on a 70 CJ, I put a 360 AMC in it. Fenders off was the way
Advanced Adapters 50-435 worked well for me. Just make sure everything is sealed up with silicone and/or gaskets. I had to remove mine twice for adapter leaks
Use raptor liner, that's what I did on my TJ. I ended up matching my factory color with the tintable raptor liner so I didn't have to paint under the hood or anything like that. It turned out great.
Bravo pour votre travail , vous êtes la reine de la propreté !
Those pants!!!
Monstaliner works great I did my CJ7 & Daughters Cherokee!!
I think Ben must be very proud of you!
Monstliner!! In either "Read my Lips" or "Lady in Red" you can get color chips send to you to get a feel for the true color.
Raptor line it. Did my JKUR at home in the garage. 24hrs of effort. Lots of prep but extremely happy with the results.
Welcome to engine swap life!!
You could try painting the Engine bay area, since you are taking the engine out to do the welding and see how it goes. Then you can decide if you want to tackle the exterior. That being said, I’d like to see a diy vinyl wrap or diy matte red liner. ✌🏼
I'd love to see you do a wrap. I've been thinking about doing just that to my lj and possibly my daughters also.
Love you videos! I am building a CJ8 and putting a LS and 4l60e in it. As for paint, get someone to put a cheap paint job on it. I don’t like the bed liner stuff on the exterior of vehicles. You could paint it yourself but it would take a lot of prep work to your garage so you don’t get overspray on everything.

Exactly, correct me if I’m wrong but bedliner is permanent
@richardstickley
3 жыл бұрын
@@bigmac22ify It can be removed but it is very difficult and costly. I own a mobile blasting business and mostly blast vehicles. It has to be scraped off then blasted. Blasting is not very effective on rubberized products. It wants to bounce off.
Raptor liner color matched!
Hi guys I can wait to see the Jeep running With that new Motor
I did a Raptor liner paint on mine and love it !!
HELL YEA!!!!! Looking dam good!!!
The car accessory drive might be an option for hood clearance issues, I know yours fit but if it didn't that is an option to go with. My LS swap was a lot eaiser than yours, I put an ls in a vehicle that already had a small block chevy and it dropped in easy. It's cool that you would go through all that work to shoe horn that thing in.
Go with Raptor liner!! I've done a jeep in that same red and it looks great! When you spray do a 50/50 over lap. Once the whole thing is done go back over with a mist coat and it'll look cherry!! No pun intended 🤣
You had me at Jeep and LS😍
Looking great! Go with Raptor lining!
Looks good red
You've already received lots of great ideas here in the comments; my 2 cents are: Whatever you go with, please make it a DIY project. You guys have already done so much yourselves, so a coat of "paint" is not something that's going to stump y'all. I wrote "paint" in quotes because IMHO you should go with RED colored LINER (Monstaliner, Rhinoliner, etc.). Red because it already identifies your Jeep and liner because of its ruggedness out on the trails. Great job and keep 'em coming!
U can go to a shop, or u can do it at home with youtube help! I used the 23 spline kit for mine in my MJ. Glad I did since I got to learn alot about the 4L60E trans.
Great video
Keep it red, it will match the interior and under the hood. I would love to see you paint it your selves. come on give it a go! P.S love the LS swap, this is great info for when i do the same to my 06 LJ.

Dyi, keep it red just match it with the motor parts. Looks great you two.
Definitely the Red Liner, it is tough and flexible and will strenghtne the body panels.
