Installing the Doors on this Mini trophy Truck Project

Ойын-сауық

In this video I get to test the 4WD on this project and so far its working great. All the chains stretched rely bad causing one of the chains to skip teeth, but that can be fixed by just retightening the chains. I had to make a change to the gearing because on this project I'm more wanting to focus on low gearing because we have 4WD and bigger tires.

    Measure the power steering unit you have installed now. I.E. how many amps is it pulling to steer your wheels. If you get the amp draw you can figure out the watts based off of the voltage of the electrical system. Watts = Amps x Volts. This should give you a starting point to work from.

  • @Ratkill9000

    @Ratkill9000

    From what I was just able to find, it's around 60 amps for draw. Assuming it's a 12v setup that's 720 watts.

    There is other items to take into consideration. The stator/alternator on the engine. What is it's nominal output? There must be a balance for the entire electrical system. You can over tax it and let the smoke out..... Ask me how I know 🤣😜💨🍁

    Honestly, the watts isn't what matters. Measure the pressure it can put out. Who is saying the new higher wattage box will not be less efficent than the current one (more juice to make less force).

    For the steering rack seals / boots , it would be a good idea to "vent" one side to the other... One boot to the other. When these boots extend, air needs to get in, and when they retract, air needs to get out. If they are not perfectly sealed, they will pull water in when they extend. One is extending while the other is retracting, so if you connect one boot to the other, with a 3/8 vent line for example, then the air from one will go into the other. The best way to do this would NOT be to puncture the boot itself, but to drill some vent holes in the body of the rack, and install some fittings and then attach a line.

    That part of the shock is called the gland nut. To figure the watts of the power steering, use an amp clamp to find its Amp draw. Then multiply times the volts. Example: 40amps x 12v is 240 watts.

    Another option for more power for steering, the Prius unit is in “ limp mode”. As it no longer has the VSS ( speed reference) so you’re only receiving 40% assistance. Find a way to provide the reference signal and you can receive max assistance. The slower the speed reference the more assist it will provide.

    The Prius fuse for the power steering is 50 A, so 600W before the fuse burns, it would set the max wattage on the Power steering motor at 450-480W. If you put a 40A fuse and it works you can see it blows if you turn side to side for a couple of minutes.

    I think you should add in a plate or two to the inside of the door frame to prevent the door from getting pushed in with a rollover or side impact like a door jam of a vehicle!? Something stronger than the two plates just installed, a door inside of the cabin during a simple roll over could cause more harm than good. For the rust on a build during testing I would use a rust converter metal protector, I use rust oleum rust dissolver myself on everything bare metal in my shop and it cleans and adds a protective coating for years that can be painted over. Put some in a spray bottle and coat everything! Pass it on!

    Ive found the best spray for rose (heim) joints is Wurth HHS2000, its an amazing lubricant/penetrating spray and has fantastic capillary action. However for climates or environments that are dirty, dusty, gritty or sandy then it may be a bad idea as it would attract the dirt and work as a grinding compound therefore maybe oil would be the best to lubricate however id lubricate them after every ride out after you have washed it. Any pivot point like that wants to be well lubricated to avoid rusting, binding, siezing etc...

    Set the front end on jack stands at the outer ends of the lower A arms. It needs to be in its normal operating stance to service and diagnose the issue. Cannot set toe/caster and camber with the suspension dangling. Finding interference through the travel is one thing, tho'. How much drop is there between the rack and knuckle? The drop should be minimal to keep the tie rods closer to level. Another item... Add adjustable steering stops at the knuckles. It will prevent steering system faults on the trail.
