If you look at many pro builds . . . The steering wheel is pushed in same with pedals so taller people fit Rat rods cheat by making longer doors or worst moving engines forward Sir K Fisher has the true gift of searching for sexy line and no compromise

Just a tip on two things! The hole saw, I just turn the drill bit around and just do the lock screw up on the twist. Saves the saw walking around on any sheet, Second is if you buy a 180deg 2 1/4 mandrel stainless bend, cut it in half and then cut the flange off the block huggers weld the cut 2 1/4 on there you can extend the exhaust joint back out of the way of everything and gives a much cleaner look there

Hi Karl, I'm an electrician and drill a lot of holes in metal. From sheet metal to half inch wall thickness steel beams . We use good quality drill bits and holesaws then tap a lot of the holes. We use the Drill Doctor to sharpen the split point bits and that really helps. But the one thing that really helps most is to lubricate the bits . The product we use that really makes the biggest difference is Hougen Slick Stick. I don't get kickbacks or anything. This really works wonders. Having to resharpen the drill bit every hole or throw them out, the same with the taps was expensive and killed a lot of time. Give it a try. It was a God send for us.

For the column clamp: machine a block with the bottom being the OD curve of the clamp tube. Drill and tap for the bolt longways through the center. Center over where you will split the clamp and pipe. Braze block to clamp pipe. Machine slot through block and pipe. Drill out bolt shoulder side of block for socket head cap screw. This way, the clamp block can match the look of the dash. If you want to get super slick you could also fillet the block where it meets the tube so it flows into the clamp. Brazing should be plenty strong for this.

I think what impresses me most is that I believe I can do or get done a lot of the individual processes, but it is how you can picture the finished product, formulate a plan in a heartbeat, and execute. I know more thinking goes into it off camera, but it is your ability to streamline your work till it looks as easy as a mellow country song. Anyone who knows anything will tell you to do simple well, is probably the hardest as every imperfection will be exaggerated. You do it the best I've ever seen.

I agee with you if you did it again to put the pinch bolt on the top (more out of site ) but I think the 3/8 bolt is a little over kill ,don't you? 5/16 or 1/4 would look better, and still do the job. just saying. your build your way. I think this roadster is your best build. (so far) luv it.

Imho the design skill supersedes and precedes the banal metalshaping aspect. If one can’t envision the design, one cannot “push” or highly develop the mundane skill to carry out the process of creating a shape that carry the emotional, “architecturally” pleasing characteristics. Form may follow function, but without the vision to anticipate the esthetics, the form is lacking or visually suffers, and you wind up with no visual, emotional continuity in the finished product.

Been watching your builds for a while and am enjoying all the videos. When you said 133, 13 thou over, I questioned what I know as I believed that an 1/8th is .125 so you'd only be 8 thou over. And when you showed .120 as dead on 1/8th I had to double check. And yeah 1/8 is 0.125 so you weren't over as much as you thought, and under in some places. In any case keep up the great work!

4:36 you can use a piece of plywood or even steel clamped to stuff to center a hole saw for applications like this. For thin metal, a diamond-edged core bit (for concrete) will usually make a clean circumference with no grabbing. Nothing wrong with the steel bar and center bore but there’s more time involved, and sometimes the pilot bit can break off when the teeth grab and it cambers.

Your top and bottom clamps look real neat. If I had cut the wrong hole in that dash my hart would have been pounding. But you just gave out a chuckle and then eyeballed it with snipers. Omg.
