Installing Nissan Elgrand 2008 Highway Star Android unit

I installed a 2DIN head unit in my 2008 Highway Star. After looking up information online, I couldn't find everything I needed, and discovered the harness cable I needed once I was in. It was a risky job, and as per the disclaimer, this may not suit your car, and I am not responsible for your attempts to do the same.

    The brackets from the original hifi should be used to mount the new one onto the new fascia and avoid gluing it in place.

    Hi, Thanks a lot for the video, so helpful. Did your rear screen work?

    I didn't plug the rear video (reversing camera) into the new android unit, it still works on the top screen. The center screen also has not changed and does not mirror the new unit. The cables for it are somewhere behind the DVD unit in the glove box, and I couldn't get to it/didn't try. My previous CD/DVD stack player in the car was completely broken hence the upgrade. Glad it helped.

    hi Antz, any chance you could list what colour wires go to which speaker? someone has chopped all my plugs off and ran the wires willy nilly, the front are connected to the left and the rear are connected to the front. i'm trying to rewire it correctly, but cannot find a diagram anywhere.

    only NI-03 ISO plug will have it, at 6.55 i have a diagram in the video. Check your instructions for the headunit also, as it may have an indicator to what the colours are coming from the headunit. You can see in my Diagram i have labelled FL and FR for front left and right. I hope this helps.

    hey buddy very good can you tell me which one is speakers harnesses and which one is power?

  • @Antzmacadamia

    Speaker harness means the cable that converts from whatever android headunit you have to the receiving cable. You'll discover this once you remove the existing headunit. If everything lines up (6:56) your new headunit will power on

    Hi there My Nissan Elgrand E52 has installed an android GPS/Radio. The AM radio never works. and and the FM radio works at a bad signal receptions. There is a Blue wire ANT. This wire always has power at 12.xx volt. I think it is for power up the antenna (There are some car still need this wire. but not for the elgrand) The antenna was modified (joined) as a standard pin. This antenna is plugged into the radio. But the radio AM still not working. Can you help on the AM radio? What else do I need to do? Thanks

    Hi Thong, I am not an experienced mechanic or expert, and you do have a different model (E52). Either use a smartphone for AM radio and bluetooth radio to the car, or take off the panel and check the connections of the android unit to see if a replacement will fix the problem. It could be your region. Take a photo of the connections and check online (ebay, aliexpress) for a similar head unit to replace it with. I recommend getting one that boots in under 5 seconds, as mine takes about 30 seconds. I'm not sure what the effect of the modified (joined) antenna may be, and if that is resulting in poor radio reception. I hope you can solve this problem, or work around it by using your smartphone instead. I've still go the TV tuner in my car which doesn't work and is useless, and I'm living in Japan.

    I dont know. Is there a system under the drivers seat for the Bose system? My video is for a different model of Elgrand (without bose system), although some of the disassembly and wiring may be the same. Please check the elgrand UK forums, and let us know your solution.

    Did you managed to set the steering keys??

  • @Antzmacadamia

    @Antzmacadamia

    10 ай бұрын

    Yes, I connected the wires for steering keys. Then in the android head unit, there was a special section for the steering keys, and I had to follow the instructions (i think it was hold a key for 5 seconds) to set the keys. It all depends on your head unit. It was convenient, because I could use the keys not used for something like mute. It might be worth noting that i no longer own this vehicle. I am glad my video helped a lot of people.

    Could you have used the original cradle from the old head unit to secure your new head unit?

  • @Antzmacadamia

    @Antzmacadamia

    Depends on the new head unit. I dont think many new android or touch head units will have these connectors, as they have become universal and require the bridging connection. I had to open it up and have a look to be sure.

    @@Antzmacadamia No I meant the metal cradle to mount to those 2 side threaded holes on either side of your new head unit. I think you're meant to use the original metal cradle that you unscrewed from the old head unit.

    @@tomb8430 Ahh sorry about that. I ended up having to use some glue to hold the head unit in, as its not so heavy. The metal mounts are for long sliding head units. I did try to use them, but nothing fit. I binned them.
