Installing NEW Mercury Motor on My Jon Boat ( Unboxing to Running )

Спорт

I'm showing how to install a new Mercury 4 stroke 25hp motor on my 15 foot fishing jon boat known as the Crispy Collector. I've never installed a motor before and this became more difficult that I originally thought it was going to be but it can be done with a few key tools in the home garage.

Great motor Justin and looks awesome. I do have one suggestion though as you need to maybe put a piece of1x1 in the gap between the motor and transom that it sits down on something solid as over time or if you hit something you don't break the motor mount. I also agree with another suggestion I seen of adding a piece of plywood on the transom as well to give you a little stronger transom as that would be some that you could attach the 1x1 to that it also has something solid to attach to as well giving you a more solid transom as well. As I don't know if you know how much wear has already been put on the transom with bumps and bangs it's took from the old motor and stuff it may have hit. Maybe even make the 1x1 a little long that it extends pass the motor mount that a screw could be screwed in at the top into the transom to hold the 1x1 better as well. And as you know silicon is your best friend when you own any boat. Just speaking from what I seen in my Marine Patrol days as not a boat builder but have seen some boats like that where the motors that size tore out the transom because they were not strengthen a little more. Best wishes on your new motor and be safe as can't wait to see how she runs.

Coming from experience you need to transfer the weight of the battery and the gas tank in the front. with the weight of you, the new engine, battery and two 6 gallon tanks your back end will sit significantly lower in the water line then you would want. Also this will great reduce the stress on the engine and transom by getting it on plain faster. Much love brother!

Nice video! A new motor on your boat is like Christmas x100, lol. I just finished my second summer with my 2021 25 HP Yamaha 4 stoke. I cant say ANYTHING bad about it! It was a dream! 4 stoke 25's fuel economy are insane. It was fast enough to traverse any lake all day long. But for me with 2 people in the boat fishing and with 150 pounds of gear, i had one small annoyance. I could always get on plane, but it always took some proper placement of weight to make it easy do do so. ( This is on an soft bottom Inflatable, hard bottoms are different, so I cant speak to those ) That said, my 16 foot soft bottom inflatable is max rated to take a 40HP. So I am making the switch in 2 months.... Stoked! and from what I have been seeing on other videos, getting on plane will take 2 seconds with the extra 15 HP. .... anyways happy boating!

My dad used to fish billfish tournaments in South Florida and his team was offered a sponsorship with mercury and they gave them a chance and after 6 months of problems and repairs they said "you can have your mercuries back" and they bought all new Yamahas. Our boat right (Sailfish 2660) now has had the same Twin Yamahas 150s on them for over 10 years and they haven't had ANY problems. (With normal maintenance).

I noticed when you first put it on, its looks like they gave you a long shaft motor and your boat has a short shaft transom. I would try to get a short motor from them or add a jack plate to really get the motor where it should be. Also with that long of a motor it will really take away from shallow waters you got that boat for. Not to mention it will be hard to handle with all the drag from the motor being so deep.

Awesome, congrats.... definitely get a separate battery, the charging system on that is not meant to charge a deep cycle and could ruin it....hook your lights and bilge pump to the starting battery. I suggest a group 24 dual purpose. I also hope you followed proper break in or that motor won't last like it should

Good job...have you been able to fix the hight? I don't know if i can judge this but i looks as the shaft should been a short one. Even if it's correct or not it's very important when others buy there motor that the shaft is correct length. Not easy to go back wih the engine afterward. I don't think the seller will take it back

That thing is quieter than the 6hp I just got for my 12' Jon Boat. But wow the Mercury pushes my little Jon at 18mph around half throttle with only one person in the boat! First time in my life I ever felt a boat go up on plain and what a weird feeling. You are going to have fun with that bigger Merk I think.

with 2 people and a full load on my Jon boat a 9.9 will push mine at 22-23 mph full throttle. just one person and all the gear around 26-27 mph. probably just one person no gear around 30. planes out at around 4\10 throttle with 2 people and full load. ive felt getting up on p!and my whole life because my dad has 25 on his 15 ft skiff

Just to re-hash other comments: 1. Needed short shaft (15") 2. Need welded transom bracing 3. Motor still need to be raised more. Cavitation plate 1" below keel line is best 4. Separate batteries. 1-Marine starting, 1-Marine/RV deep cycle 5. Way better off with a Yamaha sponsor (I am a Yamaha guy!) 6. OSG's hat was cute!
