Installing new bearings in a chainsaw crank case

Another repair that is rather difficult to video. There is no graceful way to assembly a crank case and doing on camera, in a position that can be viewed, makes it more difficult. This is another at home method. Using tools most anyone has.

Thanks for sharing! When my cranckshaft is not rotating easily I heat the place for the bearing again and hit this place with a metal extension and plastic hammer. So the bearing will be free of tension. I never hit the cranckshaft because I think is wil damage hte bearing. But I can be totally wrong. I only got the result online here on KZread. greets from Holland.

I drilled a hole in a piece of 4 by 4 and I use it to put the crank in when I put the cases together. I just put the end of the crank down to the counterweights after it comes from the freezer at about 2-4 degrees and grab the crankcase half out of the stove at about 260 degrees and push it on the crank. It usually goes on without a lot of pushing. I then put the crank/ case half in the freezer and put the other half in the oven. The second half usually goes on with a little more effort. Sometimes I use the screws to pull it on down but not always.

Hey. Thanks for the video. I'm rebuilding a Husqvarna 61. I'm putting in all new bearings, seals and crank shaft in it. I'm just wondering if I should grease the bearings? Any help or suggestions would be great. This is my first time doing this. Thanks. Michael

Evening Friend, how long do you keep the bearings in the oven. Can it damage them if left too long? Adam, glasgow

Thanks for showing your method, I’ll make sure I use one of the other methods since this one seems a bit forced and clumsy.

+oren levy If it's like a 250 you get to rebuild the whole thing, as the bar studs are integral to the gas tank/ crankcase core piece.
