Four years ago I was watching this video and realized you were rebuilding a chainsaw exactly like mine. I could not believe that my piston looked as bad as yours but I was so wrong. I rebuilt the whole thing watching your videos- carburetor included - and everything came together like clockwork. I depend on that saw and since the rebuild, it has never let me down. I'm impressed, I wish all young kids would work hard like you. I can't seem to get my 16 year old stepson to do anything. We have 2.5 ac acres with a majority of the property covered with oak and madrone trees, I give my stepson lots of chores to do but he doesn't want to do much , I even pay him good money.

Thanks for these videos, i have an old husky 55 air injection that was my grandpas. Been giving me all kinds of trouble. A rebuild is in order. These videos will help immensly!

Just a quick tip from a machinist who has to use allen wrenches daily. Sometimes when we get a bolt thats tight or in an awkward place, well get a small metal tube and put it on the short end of the wrench and this way you get lots of leverage and it might be a bit easier than a pair of pliers. But your method obviously works too! I like the videos.

This guy is pretty good!! He has good videos.

I've always used Loctite when building saws b/c of vibration. Also a stickler on proper torque specs. Good video, straight to the point.

@donyboy73 I really didnt know if I was gonna end with some few extra bolts... but I manage to get a diagram of the parts from a website. the Intake booth was a little pain .... but we made it, and I was so happy!! Thank you for the awesome videos donyboy!

I am not mechanically inclined, but its a very nice experience hearing you explain things in detail. Small engine repair is very costly and yet can be very simple. Keep up the good work.

@chrisc1032 just insert a rag around the connecting rod, sometimes i use a shop vac nozzles to suck out any dirt

@spelunkerd yesw the pin is to stop the ring from rotating, it is on most 2 stroke engines and you won't find it on 4 cycle engines

donyboy73 hi. if the cilinder doesnt have a gasket at all, i just have to smear a bit of silicone on it with my finger and it will seal the thing?:o (i have another model)

@azfires000 I USED GAS AND A PAINT BRUSH IN A CONTAINER OUTSIDE AWAY FROM ANY SPARKS OR FIRE HAZARDS, if dirt fell in the crank case i would vacuum it out with a shop vac

This video series is great. My only question is the original cylinder on my 51 did not have a port for the decompression valve and the new cylinder does. Do I simply cap it ?

yes just cap it, you can buy the caps on ebay

Excellent tutorial. I am overhauling a Husqvarna hedge cutter. Failed to start after loaning it out - I suspect incorrect fuel/oil mix might have caused damage to piston / rings. I have overhaled the carb but still wont start. Is the cause now likely to be piston or ring damage caused by possible overheating? Watching your vid now has given me confidence to dissasemble or can I check compression first (if so how is this best done?)

These videos were great. I did something I never thought I could do. However.. I reassembled. Got compression. Got spark. Cranked for a second with starter spray in carburetor. I tried bleeding the fuel line. I had soaked the carburetor but no maintenance. Can I assume it's the carburetor? An idea for you is to review these rebuild kits!

Thats what i been looking for, a step by step process of the re-built. I dont wanna do it but... My question is, I have a 575 XP Husqvarna chain saw. I need to retap the spark plug. I never done it before so Im nervous about it. Do you recomend to remove the head or do it on place? Im just worry about the shavings of the retap. Thank you Dan

Why??? Why i didn't saw you video some days ago.... I have a 2 strokes engine with two cylinders and for some reason one of them always have low compression, after days of thinking and replacing the rings I thought that the exhaust port can be damaging them. Makes it look easy as pie, I've never been able to install a piston and rings like that. I've always had to use a ring compression tool.

Hello, really nice videos, im an engine tuner (2-4 strokes) and, you should put the wrist pin clip at either 12 or 6 o clock, if 3 or 9, they can snap off their groove because of the piston acceleration, especially on high speed engines ;-)

Im not rebuilding a chainsaw, i just like watching videos like this so i will learn more about small engines.

When you put the piston into the cylinder, you pointed out a little pin that you lined the gap of the ring with. Does that pin hold the ring in place so it can't rotate? I've never seen such a pin in auto engines. Is that little pin unique to this kind of engine?

Is there any kind of shim that under the cylinder sits in front of the casing ? Seems gas is coming out down by under carb.

Hello I have a question, I am currently working on a 33cc 2 stroke engine for a scooter. My piston is all scratched from the carbon build up and I am going to replace it but are there other parts inside the engine that can get damaged because of the piston ? Thank you.
