Thank you for this. Literally took me an hour to do this on my 2017 trailhawk - took 8mm, 18mm and 21 mm and a flathead screwdriver - folled your instructions to get it done.

I have 2016 Latatude. I watch. I seen a guy remove both tires, eveyrhing off the whole back of the car. This was so much easier, and safer. Nice job!

Thanks for the comment and yeah you won’t need to remove the rear wheels! You can for extra clearance but it’s not necessary

@@RatchetWrenchesiv'e been a mechanic 45 years mostly on tractor trailers and heavy equipment... its great that everything your doing to your jeep is stuff iv'e been wanting to do to mine ...its a 2015 trailhawk you've saved me alot of trouble since you guys have already done the work and filmed it....i actually put my vanguard bull bar on yesterday and i'm ordering the trailer hitch tomorrow!

Great video. With this hitch and the wiring harness you installed, is the trailhawk able to tow a boat that when loaded is about 4000 pounds with trailer?

Yeah save yourself some money and you can do this yourself! But we actually haven’t gotten around to doing the wiring yet. We have been very busy but plan on ordering the kit and doing a video on that very soon!

Great tutorial! Watched this tutorial after I watched the harness install video. So I'll ask the question I asked there here as well: is there a dummy plug for the hole where the hitch harness goes if I don't want to install it right away (say just the MOPAR hitch receiver and bezel for a hitch bike rack)?

Thank you! And sorry for the late reply, honestly I don’t really remember and we sold the car so I can’t unfortunately go look. But if I take a guess I don’t remember seeing a dummy plug or having one. I’m sure you can probably buy one at like autozone or online and out one in!

Is the new hitch frame the same piece as the old one but just has a spot for the electrical and the receiver welded on ? Or is it heavier metal ? Just wondering cause I was thinking about a weld on receiver

Thank you! And our pleasure that’s what we’re here for! But I’m sure there’s some tq specs for everything but personally just wrenching and being in the industry for a while I don’t usually torque things unless it’s really required. So for this I’d just go by feel to be honest. If you don’t feel comfortable with that I’m sure you can find some specs and more info online!

I never start working on my car during evening because I always expect for things to get complicated and one hour job could easily prolonge to a night shift😅 Nice job as always 🔧 BTW, regarding your GTI, have you done a PCV fix/delete? I just bought mine and wanna do it during next weekend but idk if there’s any big disadvantage by changing it as a “prevention”. Cheers!

Hahh yeah we just don’t have time to film anymore by the time we get home from work we have like an hour of daylight 😬 but yeah I have a PCV delete. I highly suggest getting a catch can to go along with it. I made the mistake by not doing that at first and I’m actually buying one very soon

It’s actually a little bit different. The mounting points on the hitch are in different locations for this mode compared to yours. But I’m sure it’s a similar procedure

Did a little bit of research and found an installation manual.. i think it’s somewhat similar to this procedure. However, the manual states that i need to change the rear fascia as well in order to fit... is it really that necessary to change or is there a line on the fascia that i could follow to cut same with the cherokees.. thanks for your reply btw, really appreciate it.

You can get caps or you can make something up with electrical tape

Will this fit on the 2018 TH Cherokee?

Doing it tonite !!! hour and a half, mostly fighting with length of tools and tight bolts. thanks to wd40 !!!! if i did this more often..... not. i'd definitely recommend the power tool you have.

Do you recall if when removing the tow hook, if the hook itself had threading, or a nut somewhere for your bolts to go through? Just ordered and received my hitch (same mopar oem) and not sure how the tow-hook bolts secure to the hitch. Fitting it without the tow-hook, there's no nut for the bolt to secure to hitch. Thx

I remember it being secured in but nuts and bolts. The hook itself wasn’t threaded for this vehicle. It’s pretty easy though. Once you get under there and start installing it you’ll see the tow hook bolts and they are easily accessible to remove and put back on with the hitch installed too

I don’t unfortunately. Our jeep came with factory remote start so I’m not sure.

When I bought my hitch it came with the triangle shaped brackets like you have laying on the side at 5:18. Do those not need to be installed?

We did this so long ago I forget but if we didn't mention it in our video it doesn't apply for this specific model.

Thank you guys. I am lucky I did some research and found your video. just came from the dealership and the quoted 7 hours of labor including wiring ? is it me or it looks like you did in 30 minutes ??? so, that's one hour for one person, and may be 2 hours for wiring? I am missing something???

Of course that’s what we’re here for. And honestly we didn’t do the wiring in this video but you can do this job and the wiring in around 2 hours Depending on how mechanically included you are you can get it done even quicker. This took us about 20 minutes. Then again we had two people

Coming from being a tech at vw, dealers usually quote the time from what the manufacturer says. But techs doing it over and over they find shortcuts so they realistically finish the job within an hour or so. So I would suggest doing it yourself and save yourself money

any idea when the wiring harness video is going to be uploaded? looking to do this all at once.

basics1 no problem we try to answer as many ppl as we can to help them. But honestly you should be able to do the wiring by yourself it’s quite simple to be honest. If you buy the kit it’s plug and play

So I’m looking at this hitch design , I have a 2020 Jeep Cherokee trailhawk and the design for it looks completely different . Idk which to buy I just want it to fit . Any ideas ??

So if you look here, this is the OEM hitch: www.moparfactoryparts.com/oem-parts/mopar-hitch-82213349ad . Your confusion may have been the same as mine since I didn't realize at first that the OEM hitch is straight fitted mid bumper, but all of the aftermarket (Curt/Uhaul/etc) are bolt on the bottom and they are below the bumper. With those, you have less clearance to the hitch and a reduced tow capacity

Do you know if this is the same procedure for the 2019 Compass Trail Hawk? Anyone can answer if they have that information.

The procedure is similar but not fully the same. For starters the trailer hitch is different with different mounting points. The bumpers are slightly different as well. So no they are not the same procedure but I’m going to say they’re probably pretty dang close! I hope this helped out!

How much can you tow now the way it's set up? In the manual it says you can only tow 2000lbs if you don't have the tow package. but with the tow package you can tow 4500lbs. Do you have any idea what the manual is talking about?

@@RatchetWrenches Thanks, That helped a lot! I don't know why Jeep has to make it so mysterious. All they had to do is say the 4 cylinder can tow 2000 and the 6 cylinder can two 4500.

For this specific mopar hitch yes it will fit a 2019 according to the website. We still need to purchase the wiring kit but when we do we will be sure to make a video on installing that so stay tuned! Thanks

This doesn't work for a 2019 trailhawk. The bumpers are different. You have to remove the entire bottom half. It is a pain the in @ss. I was also told by Jeep that mine was wired for a trailer hitch. The dealership was wrong, so now I have to order the harness and redo the work. What a pain!

Would this work on a grand cherokee?

BEWARE! Our 2022 Cherokee Trailhawk did not have this 2 piece rear bumper fascia and required removing the whole fascia - royal PITA.

Too bad you didn't get that from the factory, you get a lower final drive ratio and a higher tow weight

*Not for 2019+ models The entire rear plastic facia has to com off. Much more complicated. Just sayin
