Installing Metal Roof & Live Edge Siding | Shipping Container Lean-To

The lean tos off our conex shipping container finally come together despite the recent rainy weather. We install the metal roofing, enclose the structures with live edge siding milled from our sawmill and take a step back to take it all in. A place to store vehicles, trailers and other equipment will surely come in handy living in Alaska's harsh climate.
We appreciate you tagging along for our Alaskan adventure 😀

had never thought of you initials... and when i saw them on that piece of wood, it gave me such joy... you see, my husband name was Eduardo, and mine is Anci. He passed away 2 months ago, and today i was feeling sad and down... and then... BOOOMMMM!!! This comes, as a reminder to me that when you have been loved and you have loved as we both did each other, then, you are never ever alone, that love is always there inside, nurturing, calming and making one able to overcome any pain and give every day light and love!!! Thank you again you two lovely ones, you give me happiness every time, but this one, well, this one was really special!!!

So I found you over a year ago now and have watched every video. What I would really like to see is an updated video of how you met, why you originally moved to Oregon, and how do you feel now that you've been in Alaska for a few years. BTW I loved your funny jokes and bloopers in the early videos, especially you're "we're moving to alaska" quote when you and Eric laughed and said no one watched you then. It's your personalities that keeps us coming back!

Ive been watching your channel for quite awhile. Maybe 2 yrs. I have haf pancreas cancer for 3 yrs. I was diagnosed just a few months ago. Its been a long road. Now that im in stage 4 and no longer working I have way more time on my hands. Your channel gives me a huge amount of inspiration. The way you both work together so well. Your gardening, cooking home grown foods, your fishing, and extra properties. I lived in alaska 2 times. 2yrs 3ach time. My family is in Oregon. So Im here now. I waited to watch the shed video because I didnt feel it as much as your others. Boy! Was I wrong about that. To see how much natural materials are from your land is so inspiring. I also am reminded how amazing Alaska is. Thank you for sharing your lifestyle with me. God bless.

There are many reasons why I love watching you both. I’ve always canned and preserved, so it’s such a pleasure to see all that you do. I’m a senior woman in the middle of Minneapolis, and I find myself drawn to your work and play in the wilderness. Mostly, I keep remembering my dad who would have LOVED your videos. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He canned salmon when he had the opportunity to go fishing for them. He built his garage with iron I-beams to hang deer, etc. He built the house we grew up in among so many other projects over his years. He was a welder and a cement man. He had a massive garden. Ah well, thanks for all you do. And for always reminding me of my wonderful dad.

You should keep a few panels of clear corrugated plexiglass on hand so when you build something like this right in the center over your main work area, you could put the clear plastic roofing and have light coming in. I know winter time is the problem because the snow on the roof, but the rest of the year when you can remove the snow or have no snow on that roof. You have plenty of light inside the shelter. We built all kinds of storage sheds and like you we built some lean-to’s on the sides of some containers that we bought as well. And over the years we cut up all different sizes of boards and timber’s for different people. The old saw mill has more than paid for it self and made us some profit as well. Nice job! I enjoyed watching this build. I am doing something similar. Years ago I built a 20’ X 40’ shed for far equipment and a work area. I quickly discovered that it wasn’t enough space so I built a 12’ lean-to on one side. Now I need more room so I bought some 26’ long box trusses form a construction project that ordered incorrectly and I was just going to put in a post barn type of frame to hold them up so I could add a 24’ X 40 ‘ covered parking areas for all of my equipment. Then the bright idea came into my hard head and I bought two 40’ Conex containers for more durable storage. So I placed them 24’ away from the shed. Now I have to put the trusses from the shed to the Conex’s and then I will have a real monstrosity of a storage/workshop that will be 80’ X 40’ structure. That should hold me for many years if not forever. Again I really like what you have built because it has real charm and the wood you have used is very nice looking.

Looks great!!! I am curious though why a peak was not built over the storage container. A simple low slope A-frame rafter would look very nice, protect the rafter and storage container and stop the water from running down the side of the container and making the ground soft. Just a thought. Looks wonderful none the less.

Those containers are plenty strong enough to hold snow & ice.. His Add-On is at enough of a slope for snow/ice to slide & as long as he tied them to the container properly, there wont be any gap for water to pour down the sides... That said, I personally still would have built a peak over the container lol.
