I would cut off the bottom of the middle pipes to bring the joint down to the top clamp and save you from putting another clamp up top, this would also put you well within the height allotment. Move the power steering reservoir to the front mount so it is away from the heat of the stack, to prevent your fluid from getting cooked and causing internal damage.

Bruce, when I ran oversize/heavy haul, I had an '84 359 Pete with 6" straights, curved tops on the pipes.....and from flat ground, they stood 12' 9". That's tall enough to get the exhaust away from your cab on that Binder, but will still meet legal requirements and clear most overhead obstructions. When you cut them, cut the LOWER portions, NOT the upper sections. Another FYI, you may need to either fabricate a heat shield for the power steering fluid reservoir, or relocate it altogether. That's a hell of a lot of heat radiating from the pipes...also, if you're set on keeping the air dryer on the headache rack, you'd best mount/WELD a plate the back to carry the load....that aluminum WILL crack otherwise. For that matter, you will need to reinforce the rack where the exhaust is mounted for the same reasons....it's not designed to carry that weight, plus the dynamic forces from the wind pushing the tops of the stacks and road vibrations...Keep up the good work....

Vegas The Trucker I questioned that earlier. So glad you agree, the way it is bolted on now is going to create problems from vibration and frame twist under routine use. If an emergency load shift happens with flat bed or lo-boy that headache rack as is, will not save tractor or driver. I bet DOT might have an issue with it too.

Love the spirit you put in to them and to see the progress you make on the International. Keep up the good work, and tell your brother that i love the 'Stang.

The stacks really look good but, you might need to cut the stacks down a bit and install rain caps. The turbo work should make a big difference in performance. A fire truck? I can’t imagine what you will do with it. Guess I’ll stay tuned in to find out.

I was in the car hauling business for many years. If you go past 13’ 6” you risk damaging both the truck as well as any bridges and/or traffic lights, which you will be responsible for. And the DOT will absolutely fine you just for being over height. I had a couple of drivers that would be lazy and not do what needed to be done in order to get down to required height, and they paid for it every time. Also, any hydraulic/air lines etc, should be gone over to see where they are rubbing against other lines, the truck frame, cross members, or anything else as even the engine sitting at idle will cause them to vibrate and wear down, resulting in failure. We used to cut old black gardens hoses up and wrap it around the lines where they might rub against something. We would wrap it around and zip tie it tight so that the garden hose took the all the abuse. We also would zip tie the lines/hoses in a way that they wouldn’t be able to bounce around during transit. That little extra attention to detail made huge differences in terms of not getting stuck making repairs on the side of the road, as well as cleaning up fluids that exploded out of the lines and onto the road and all over the truck. The extra work was a small price to pay to avoid much bigger expenses. The tractor is coming along nicely. Good job!!!

Mike Gillissie I worked for a company called New England Auto Transport back in the late 90’s. We handled mostly snowbirds going back and forth from FL to New England, along with auction runs for backhaul.. I left there and started my own company in 03 with a couple of trucks, doing a lot of fleet cars and for corporations and rental returns.. Easy money back until the fuel prices started going sky high. I tried to supplement it with brokering but we were all feeling the crunch and a lot of mom and pops went under. I worked for a towing company south of Boston called National Auto.. I did tons of auction work along with lease returns for banks. I ran all over Mass and NH. Mannheim Auction in Rayhnam.. Adesa in Framingham. I forget the one in Concord, but they were the easiest out of all of them. In and out. Then the small one up in Ipswich.. I got hit head on by a guy texting and driving in NH back in 2010 and haven’t been able to go back to driving since.. I got wrecked!!!

I’m sort of lost on the whole point of this. Once you did the brakes and added the tyres and got it polished up it was good to go. Now you’re wasting money and sponsor opportunity on doing stuff that’s not needed for a working truck. You should have it out hauling cool shit home. It doesn’t need chrome or more horsepower.

I would suggest putting a couple beads of high temp silicone on the inside spools where the pipes slide together, when you slide it together it will smear together and help prevent any wet soot runs down the outside of the pipes, did that on my stainless 8s I had on my old Pete and never had a leak
