Installing and Reviewing Tire Balance Beads On My 3/4 Ton Dodge Truck

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Do tire balance beads really work? Let's find out! Today we are putting new tires on my 1992 D250 Cummins work truck, and rather than spend twice as much getting them balanced at a tire shop we are testing out tire balance beads from Amazon. We used to use these all the time on semi trucks, but I have never used them before on a passenger vehicle.
According the the manufacturer's website: These beads can be used with TPMS and tire patches. They will not harm your tire or rim, a little bit of moisture will not make them clump, and they can extend your tire life up to 30%. Plus, they are reusable!
In this video we will show you the easiest way we found to install the beads, and go for a test drive to see how well they perform.
We also discuss the tires we went with and why they impress us so much! I swear we aren't affiliates for the tire company lol I just really love these tires. (And they are cheaper on Amazon!)
We hope this video will help you make an informed decision on your tire balancing needs.

I have a 99 E350 Super Duty, play/work van, I put a set of mismatch tires from my local Mexican tire shop, mounted them at home with beads and they ride as smooth as butter! Not to mention the whole set only cost about $260.

Years ago in the days before TPMS sensors my dad would put about 2 cups of antifreeze in each tire. Worked every time.

I run a tire shop and have had people ask me to take them out. they usually scatter over frost cracks and rail road crossings. shake and then rebalance. same with start up shake some then balance at a higher speed. I will use them in semi tires as I cannot justify spending 15k on a truck tire balancer.

They use beads in motorcycle tires all the time and they seem to work well. I use them on all my motorcycles. I'm going to be putting beads soon in the original wheels I just restored for my '67 beetle and I found this video while researching. I hate the thought of clipping weights to the lip of my freshly painted wheels or having the grey foam residue stuck to the wheels every time I have the tires re-balanced.

Thank you for this. I love balancing beads. I had seen a video where someone put balance beads in one tire and then went for a test drive and said, “ well I guess they don’t work because it’s still vibrating.” Then he proceeds to say he doesn’t recommend them. Well I also don’t recommend balancing one tire and leaving the other three alone and expecting the vehicles tires to suddenly be balanced lol. My experience with them has been good even with low profile tires. 215/40r18 Kumho Ecsta All Season Performance tires on a 2006 Corolla CE 5 Speed. Lowered on BC Coilovers with the upgraded Swift springs (worth the upgrade) and 5Zigen wheels. The wheel company used to be a relatively well known reputable wheel company through the 1990’s and early 2000’s. I found mine for $200 for the entire set with tires that had 75% tread life left and no dry cracking. Kid didn’t listen to his father when he asked him to clean out his extra car parts for his 2008 Subaru WRX in the garage. And he ended up selling them super cheap to get the message across to him lol. So thank you kid whoever you are for making your dad sell me your wheels and tires super cheap lol. 8” wide as well! So I was really happy with the fitment and offset. But I didn’t want to waste money balancing the tires in case they ended up not being good from sitting. So I had balance beads in my garage already, put them in through the valve step and used a hair clipper to vibrate the valve stem to get them falling through much faster. Shoutout to another KZread video I saw doing the same thing lol. And they went from a little vibration at 75-80 mph to silky smooth all the way up to 100 mph which was as comfortable I was going on tires that I had just gotten and had been sitting for an unknown amount of time. So I really enjoy these balance beads ease of use and results.

Yeah doing just one makes total sense 😂 Good tip on the hair clippers, and that was a really good deal on the tires and rims! It sounds like you have a really cool car.

Yes sir the beads work. 👍👍 they also have a pulling felling to the road that makes it ride smoother as well. HOWEVER they do wear out and turn to powder. Usually in a year depending on miles you drive. The ceramic can also wear the inside of the tire depending on compound. Ive found the stainless works better and for longer with less wear to the inside, but you better have steel wheels. Th rims will get bead blasted no matter what you use.

  • @PerpetualProjects

Steel wheels, check. According to the advertisement on these they aren't supposed to break down or wear the tire so hopefully I don't run into those problems. I won't be dismounting them until the tires are wore out or the get out of balance enough to notice it,. So we'll just have to wait and see.

@@PerpetualProjects I love the front end on the year, looks beastly! Good question, best bead? And how long before the ceramic beads break down? Always wanted to run beads in past but just never did. Going to try them on next set! 💯 I have 33's on my Silverado now, got a crazy cheap deal on wheels n tires but tires don't measure 33! Lol. Should of just went 35. Thanks

@@norbertnagy5514 very well. The beads didn’t work for me . I thought my post would help some folks out because it’s pain to re-do and uninstall the beads and then get a traditional weighted balance. I tried beads twice unsuccessfully. Then went to a tire shop that specializes in larger tires and the owner with 20+ years of experience also made the comment that beads will not get the nice smooth hwy ride of a traditional balance . So I’m just letting people know what i learned with my two personal case studies and the opinion of an experienced tire shop owner. I was running 35” cooper discoverer at3 . They traditional balanced well but didn’t like beads . Really enjoy the tires . I like to try new gadgets on my truck and beads are off the list because “they didn’t work for me”.
