Installing a Pond at the Allotment

I'm replacing my smaller wildlife ponds at the allotment with a much larger one. I hadn't really planned things out, as I was too excited to get the pond in the ground, and I can't say I had done much research into pond installation. So is this a "how to" video? Or is it another fine example of me making it up as I go along? Observe the rambling thought process right here, as well as me repeatedly jumping in and out of holes, oh and get yourselves ready for pottery class - coming soon!
*** If you are emptying out old ponds like I did - please make sure you look for and save any wildlife in there, apart from the dustbin lid (which I checked), I transferred all the old water into other containers then put back into the bigger pond once it was in ***
Cheers x

Doing the research before installing a wildlife pond at the bottom of the garden (only a four foot by three and a bit foot effort so no where near your effort), so thanks for the video.

I have just done this on my plot. I definitely recommend buying a net and checking for frogs and frogspawn before you do this, just tipping out the contents of your previous ponds could harm or kill any creatures already living there. I found lots of frogspawn and two frogs living in my pond so I put the frogspawn and water in buckets first and gently rescued the frogs.

Don't worry , it was only the really shallow one I tipped out and there definitely wasn't anything in there, the water from the 2 larger ponds went straight back into the new pond once it was in. Hope your new pond fills up quicker than mine. Cheers

@@DigDaveDig Fair enough. I just didn't want anyone to watch this video and tip out their old pond before checking for frogs and frogspawn first and saving the water since it could be someone's habitat they are uprooting. My pond isn't massive so the rain will fill it up again soon, then I'll plant around it to make it a nature habitat. I'm looking forward to seeing what turns up.

No creatures that I could see don't worry, that lid was a bird bath nothing more, it was too shallow really. The excitement, well I had heard that a pond might become available sometime, but when I turned up on Saturday morning it had been left right there, I really couldn't wait to plan it and just started digging. Wasn't too bad at all really, no stones, and to be honest pulling the video together took longer than the dig. Cheers

Hey don't worry, I'm way ahead of you, even though it's empty of water I left a plank/ramp for creatures to exit, I'll sort something similar when it's filled. In the old ponds I had a chicken wire ladder you may have seen come out. Thanks for the comment, cheers
