So After dealing with this steering wheel for the time I have owned the truck it was time to replace. As you may or may not know I bought a parts truck and the steering wheel was in good shape. My truck has a plain steering wheel so in this video I show you how to remove and install a leather wrapped steering wheel. This process is the same for Silverado, Yukon, Denali, Tahoe and Sierra. It is a simple process and requires very little tools. Hit the comments and let me know what you think.

Thanks, Travis. What I like about your channel is that you actually make it educational, relating to the vehicles. You don't just crow about how awesome your cars are (indeed they may be), but you SHOW how to do things, in detail. I predict future success for your channel. I know it probably takes a TON of time to slow down your work to film, and then an abundance of time and effort to edit the final production. But you are good at it! Someone else was asking you where you live and you said SW Missouri. I live in West Tennessee. I am frequently afraid that a tornado is not only going to sweep my cars and house away, but people as well. Do you ever have those concerns living there? I guess there really is no totally safe place to live anymore.

I recently replaced the steering wheel on my 2013 Silverado with a leather wheel with both cruise and radio controls to control my new Pioneer touch screen. The wiring harness had an interface that allowed me to use factory steering wheel controls. I love it! You are right the leather does feel WSU better. I love your rides. Keep up the awesome videos.

Finally, someone clearly demonstrates how to release the Silverado air bag. I've watched several vids where guys push a small screwdriver into a slot the wheel, but you showed where to place the tool. It's impossible to get a good view of it when the wheel is still in place, so you're going by feel.

I'm a small guy at 180 lbs, but I find that I just leave the steering wheel nut on a few turns and I apply even pressure with slow side to side force and it pops off. Sometimes a little blaster helps. My friend who is 6' 2" and over 200 lbs could not take the wheel off his 03 Tahoe. I told him to let me try and he said go ahead. He was amazed that I got it off. Once you start flexing the whole steering column you loose the force on the nut.

new to your channel. I'm on my 3rd GMT800, and the first thing I do is swap in an escalade wheel. I love the look and feel of the wood grain. I put one in an '05 Tahoe, '06 Silverado, and tomorrow will be in my currently-owned 2000 Silverado, hence what brought me here, since the airbag clip access points are different on 99-02. excellent video, thanks for creating this! with my luck, it will be the one most difficult to remove for me, as well. all of the others were an easy pull. fingers crossed...

@@TWAMotorsports right. I don’t want to mess with swapping steering column or spline. I’ve grown to appreciate the 99-02. Used to hate their “deep dish” look, and still prefer the flat “thin crust” lol style of the 03-06 if it has controls, but I agree with you, no controls and the 99-02 looks better. 02 Escalade wheel shows up today 🙌🏽

About to replace my steering wheel in my 01 2500HD. Video was very helpful. Got a couple questions, hoping you can help me out. I’m hoping the splines will line up from 1500 to 2500. I got a wheel from a junk yard and it doesn’t have the things on the side where the red wires go to, or does it have the red wire/plug. (Not sure what it’s called, assuming it’s for the horn.) Am I able to take that off the junk wheel and put it on the replacement one? When I got it from the junk yard it was just the wheel and air bag laying on the floor. The column was gone.

I have a nice 2007 "Classic" single-cab short box (really just a left-over 2006) and I was looking to find a leather wheel because I feel the same way as you. This "Trailblazer" term kept coming up, yet the site says it will fit my truck (I always declare it a 2006). Does that mean that a Trailblazer leather wheel will fit my truck and the GMC airbag (which looks much like yours) will fit in? I got all excited when I saw this. The leather steering wheel in my Camaro feels so good compared to the Rubbermaid crap in there. It's also discolored, despite the fact that it's spent almost its entire life in the garage out of the sun. It looks like I can get a brand new one for $170 because the Ebay ones ALL look worn and sun-beat (the leather). You really lucked out with that one, buddy!!!

The trouble with the "2007 Classic" is that you get parts for the next bodystyle (the real new 2007) so it kind of sucks to own that year, but I love the truck. You give me all kinds of ideas!

Put the nut back on until all the threads are covered...then whack the top of the nut with a no bounce hammer or a brass one...works better if someone is pulling and someone hit the nut.

the steering wheel has lil holes where you stick a pik and remove the airbag instead of doing it behind it

Hi Travis. This video was great, and did inspire me to order one for my similar truck. It has EXACTLY the same interior as yours. I can't wait to get rid of the plastic wheel, which not only feels like crap, but has discolored despite this thing living most of its life in the garage. Seeing that mine's a post-2002, I ordered this from gmpartsdirect.com. www.gmpartsdirect.com/oem-parts/gm-steering-wheel-10364494/ Kind of expensive at $163, but it's the only part of my interior that isn't perfect. Thanks so much for this video. I never thought about changing it because I didn't know anything about the airbag, but you show how it can be done. You got a perfect one with your parts truck, but all the ones on Ebay look worn and are not cheap. I wish I got one the way you did but at least I found one. Sometimes you can find parts online that the dealer will tell you is discontinued, such as this part. Thanks!
