Installing a Furrion Chill RV Roof A/C Complete System
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Today I am removing an old worn out Carrier RV roof A/C and replacing it with a 15.5k BTU Furrion Chill RV roof A/C. Normally, a RV roof A/C replacement is an easy 1 hour job, but because Carrier A/Cs don't have a wired wall thermostat, I need to run wires and install one. And because the Carrier A/C is obsolete, the controller and plenum needs to be replaced too. My customer and I decided on the Furrion product because it was available and because it's a good system. So join me on another RV roof A/C job.
Thanks for watching!

Thanks 👍even with the A/C I'm still very far under the weight limit of the ladder, let alone those crazy thin aluminum RV ladders installed on the rear of units.
How did you know that I was about to replace a Carrier AC with a furrion chill? 😃 Thanks so much for doing what you do!

I've really enjoyed your last two videos. They showcased your logic, craftsmanship and concern for your clients. I found humor in the stress over the thermostat location. My OCD would have notched the wall stud so the thermostat could have been placed mid-panel. Thank you so much for sharing your work with us. I'm constantly amazed at what you reveal, while telling myself I should have known that.

We installed one on our travel trailer and had an issue with the controller going bad on it. We contacted Furion and there team was a joy to work with trying to troubleshoot the issue. They provided the controller and thermostat under warranty without any hassle.

That is great to hear
I changed out all 3 airs on our toy hauler to power-saver Coleman units last month. I wanted to run all 3 airs with the generator, and sometimes two airs would trip a breaker (forget about starting 3....). Successful, BTW. The power-saver units are REALLY light on the power consumption. Weirdly the power-saver 13.5K units also seem to blow colder than the Mach 15 units it came with. The first one, we made a sled to slide it up the ladder. That worked, but it sucked. The next two I carried up on my shoulder. It was tough, and I could have dropped one, but it was easier than the sled idea by far...

We have one 15k power saver and a 13.5 power saver. Runs on 30a service just fine. Can even use the microwave at the same time.
We at CT Mobile RV out of Millbrook Alabama installed over 50 of these this year. We love them and is the only unit we sell. Also we have never had an service call on them. We have measured 31 degree air coming out of the vents

James, recognizing all the work going into not just the replacement of the a/c unit but the time spent editing this installment as well, I had to watch every commercial knowing just what all you went threw to make this a professional installment. Great job on the installation as well as the editing. 👍👍

I replaced my original colmans 1@ 19 years old and one at 21 years old ….with the power saver Mach 3 13.5 BTU no heat pump at a max draw of 10 amps on high…which I need as I have a 30 amp coach with two ac I hope they run as long as the originals…
“It’s always better to be lucky than good…” I subscribed right after that statement. 🤪
Before hauling that thing up, be sure to check your ladder rating, folks! Fishing wire is my least favorite thing to do. You make it look easy.

I installed a Furrion AC and replaced the dometic thermostat with a cheap battery powered backlit house thermostat. It works great. I added a manual low/high fan switch to the top of the thermostat. This was when parts were really hard to come by and I couldn't get a Furrion thermostat. Pretty cool feature of the Furrion to support that. Furnace works great too connected through the control box.

Great video! I have the exact RV and AC unit I had to fix last year with a new solenoid that was hard to find. Now I can follow this for my upgrade.
Great job, I appreciate your attention to detail. The owners are going to be very happy with the new unit.

You make it look so easy. Thanks for the current draw test at full compressor load. Real world info like that gives us DIY'ers valuable lithium battery / solar system planning info because the manufacturers test these units in a lab where they are not installed to duct work etc. Thanks James.
I'll just say this about the Furrion Chill. 2 years ago I ordered one from ETrailer to replace our inadequate Coleman Mach 13k btu. The Furrion arrived at my house busted in multiple spots due to all the plastic in the cover and pan. I sent it back and ordered another. It arrived in even worse shape. I would have picked it up in person, but they were not allowing that due to Covid protocols. I then cancelled the order and went to a local RV dealer and ordered a Dometic Brisk 2 15k btu. Yes, it has the capacitive touch thermostat, but if you use it correctly and don't press on it like you're pressing a button it's fine. This is explained in the owners manual and has not been an issue for us. Also, it has a metal pan and is more robustly built than the 2 busted Furrions I have seen. That's been over a year and I have not looked back. I see a lot of new trailers have switched to Furrion. I wonder if this is simply due to supply issues or something else. Regardless, I am personally not impressed with the way the Furrion units are built. Their features look good on paper, but time will tell how they hold up.
Its nice to see that Furrion makes something good. I have had nothing but issues with their Stoves and Convection Ovens.
Most excellent work James. Thank for taking us through the play by play... and as always, the bloopers!! ...and sooooo close to 50K Subs!!!!!!

Also for those that may not be able carry the a/c up. If you leave it in the box you can tie off the box and rope it up the box helps protect the unit and rv.

That is a nice looking AC, and a super clean and professional installation.
Appreciate the run down and important tips on what to look for with air dams for intake and exhaust sections of ac how they need to be sealed well etc to not circulate cold air within the unit. I'm going to take my lower plastic section off next couple days to inspect how well winnebago did the install, based on normal winnebago operating procedures probably not to well lol. 😂
Congrats in advance for 50k subscribers!

I has a Carrier 135k ac on my personal tt. A customer of mine with a Tiffi8an bus bought a Brisk Air 2 by mistake and sold to me for 200 bucks! So before heading to Florida I swapped it out. But here's the kicker, an Outbak has remote controls and since I work on Rvs everyday I didn't really feel like putting in new thermostats. Found an adapter wire harness for 150 bucks which is a rip off but works like a champ. The big plus is the Brisk air is a 15k a/c which made wifey happy when we in 100 degree heat. It's 23krs front loading toy hauler so blowing ice cubes in that small space really saved my ass.. Btw the Carrier was perfect and sold for more than what I paid for the dometic a/c

Thank you. I never have brand loyalty, but those coleman and dometic units have burned me a few times with comebacks too quickly.
Great video James, as usual. There's an aftermarket thermostat made by Micro-Air which is a plug and play for the difficult to use Dometic thermostats. You can also control your thermostat and multiple zones by a phone app via wifi or Bluetooth, an awesome feature. Runs kind of expensive at around $250 but probably worth the investment

@@AZExpert and a new competitor also now has an rv thermostat. It's called waltech. It's cellular and WiFi and has built in humidity sensor and a power loss notification system that helps keep tabs on animals you have in your trailer. Plus it has motion detection that can be used as a security feature. I myself have the micro air thermostat not would love to try this new one.
