Very helpful, thank you. I was wondering what to do with the toilet seat. Glad to see I don't need to remove it.

I have the commode with the brakes on the bottom when I lock them it still moves, I need it to not move so when my husband's transferring from his wheel chair to the commode it doesn't move.

Or you may just have to buy a new rolling toilet chair. Once the brakes go they usually aren’t fixable.

That is a tremendous amount of urine. Is it empty before he starts? I have some patients who put water and pine sol in the bucket to help with smells. In any case, the priority should be to get him off the bedside commode because it is difficult to perform hygiene tasks while sitting on the tiny round seat. They should be progressing him to using the device over the toilet in the rehab and gradually down to the comfort height toilet seat, at least 17 1/2" and sometimes with an elevated toilet seat installed can be up to 22 1/2". This is usually dependent upon patient height to ensure easier sit to stand. If you want me to look at his home for you, I can provide a FaceTime or Zoom assessment of the home while he is in rehab that way you can have the home ready for when he discharges. You do not want to be performing modifications after he gets home. It increases anxiety and typically the first 2 weeks they are home from rehab is when most falls happen, because the home is not ready. Thank you for your response and hopefully I was able to help you.
