Thanks for not editing this video to make the job seem easier than it actually is. I hate it when people leave out their failed attempts or their strategies that didn't work. Those failed techniques are part of working on a machine. Way too many people edit their videos to show only their successful attempts and it creates incredibly flawed expectations for beginner mechanics.

That Rotor nut to the Stator is 190-210 lbs of torque with red locktight on it as well, so it will take some doing to get it off usually, I found mine just laying inside my primary cover, so someone who had it before me didn't know what they were doing when they put it back together. Can't wait to find out what is in the clutch assembly. The inner main shaft nut on the clutch assembly is 80-90 lbs with blue locktight. Because you will most likely be in there again to do a clutch job sooner or later. So I would use the blue in the clutch assembly. And yes the clutch main-shaft nut is counter clockwise to tighten it it back on, it is reverse threaded.

Probably because the previous dude torqued it to 190-210 instead of 240-260 ft-lbs. Also the manual says 70-80 ft-lbs for the main shaft nut, and red loctite.

That sprocket nut has red thread lock, you have to use a little bit of heat on it to break it loose.

I feel so much better after watching your video. I recently had to take mine apart and I too had the small plastic block and a knock off from eBay of that metal tool Harley sales to lock it while you break the nut loose and tighten it back up. I split the plastic block in half and the knock off metal tool bent in half and knocked the shift linkage off. Luckily it didn't break anything. I ended up using a wash rag and jammed it in there and got it off. Felt like it took forever to break that damn thing loose. Sure felt it in the back the next day. Great video!

My shop manual says that for an XL (that has a nut) the engine shaft nut is torqued to 240-260 ft-lbs, not 190-210, The XR engine has a bolt with a lower torque value. Don't take my or anyone else's info on that, double check with a manual. That is 50 ft-lbs higher and evidently a reason for such a high torque value. So, the nut does not come off.

Yes. You can get Genuine James or Cometic kits from companies like J&P or Dennis Kirk among several others, just the primary case gasket, or a full kit with all the "O" rings and gear shift seals.

Never bring you Harley to Barrie Harley Davidson for a fix. 1 st time I brought mine I ask them to check to tachometer and other thing, got my Harley back speedometer and signal light auto shut wasn't working, brought it again in the winter for storage and have other things fixed including speedometer, a short in my lights put a new battery. 1 month after the season was started they still had my bike, they never returned my calls, to the point that I call the cops toi have my bike back on it all was fine for a few ride then my battery died, change the regulator it wasn't the problem it was my stator! Both time I brought my bike there it came out with new issues. Never Again

Some are really less intelligent then the ones who should never be aloud to touch anytime tool related not even a staple. First use common sense I have never seen a locking tool put on top n grew up wrenching since & a kid dad had hot rods . And I don't like paying money I don't have to fix right after a so called dealership can't figure it out of can't fix the probably . And also worked at 6 licensed HD dealerships while already working. On Harley's took the tests at lunch just to have the paper to not void my warranty n your. And recently bought my 3rd brand new harley . I immediately cancelled my warranty after my first 500 mile service on my 2017 FLTRX- I not only the neck bearing we're not just lose bad n my front wheel was bent. Removed the Harley tires and put another brand balanced. It is a little better. But not there yet. I am at the making sure motor mount is good or tight ,motor is aligned. They make some next expensive lasers to check if you don't know that a measuring tape should have same # as u put it on each side of the shock bolts to stem . Even if it cost 1500 to get the tools you and your brothers will help the dealership get it right for having to have that MMIcertifate to find out by 2030 they will be all electric. And still in France . Miko Curtis Tulsa Ok former employee of the Real Motor Company RIP HD.
