Troubleshooting Charging System Harley Stator Voltage Rectifier Regulator Rotor Problems
This is a complete video on the proper way to troubleshoot your Harley Davidson charging system. This includes your battery, battery cables, stator, voltage rectifier/regulator and rotor. You must have a meter to measure voltage, ohms and current along with a clamp-on amp meter. If you have any questions, please put them in the comments. Don't forget to like and subscribe. Thank you

Last Sunday I was out riding my 01 Dyna wide glide, stop to relieve myself and it wouldn't start when I was ready to ride, Thank God I carry a small jump box with me and was able to get back home. I watched a couple other videos and yours is very informative compared to the others.

Great info 👍🖖😊🏍️👋👋 We're actually show you I'm pretty sure my charging system is working but I'm going to go through all those points and double check I knew some of them. One thing I thought too turn the flashers on...

That’s awesome! Yes, as you state, the principles are good for any charging system of that style.
i'm having the draw issue on my 07 fxdc super glide something is draining my new battery, now i know what to check, thanks for the detailed information.

I'm thinking about replacing the three charging components on my 1992 FXRS. I'm seeing 32amp stators. Isn't that too much juice for a stock battery? I can't really change the battery, because the way it fit's into the bike, only that specific battery will fit, as far as I know. I don't want to zap my battery. -Ireland

When they say a charging system has 32 A capability that means it can charge up to 32 A if it needs to. It will only charge the amount that your battery needs. You could put 100 amp charging system in it’s not going to fry your battery unless you’re trying to draw that many amps.you’re going to be fine. It’s better to have more charging capacity than you need than to have less.

@@Rapsgarage Thanks Very Much for your Help.
How is the rectifier hook up I have a 1999 ultra glide ultra classic does the one wife go to the battery and one to the breaker or both to the breaker there are 4 wires to connect to the stator one says breaker the other one don't say anything any help would be greatly appreciated been a head aceh for over to years new stator done at shop still won't charge

I just looked at a bunch of wiring diagrams. The rectifier/regulator has 4 wires. Two wires go to the Stator. One wire goes to ground. The other wire goes to the circuit breaker, then to the starter. The starter has a wire to the battery. So two wires to the stator, one wire to ground and one wire to the battery. If you need more help email me your phone number to hdrap_1999@yahoo.com and I can help further.
When i come to a stop sign or a red light my bike chops like it wants to die out could that be a stator issue?

That would be really hard to answer. I would pick up a cheap voltmeter from AutoZone. They’re like $10. Then check to see if it’s charging at the battery. The battery normally sits at 12 V to 12 1/2 V if it’s above that wall, it’s idling then it’s charging and then when you rev the engine, it should come up till about 14.2 V.if you have any further questions, let me know
Are the outside wires always the ac wires
@Rapsgarage

Most likely but most times the AC wires are thinner gauge wires.

While checking the stator/regulator, you say that "infinite resistance" is "NO resistance". INCORRECT! "No resistance" equals ZERO ohms, or a closed circuit. "Infinite resistance" is an OPEN circuit that has NO CONNECTIVITY! Don't confused these terms that have opposite meanings!
@Rapsgarage
Жыл бұрын
I can see where my terminology is confusing. What I meant was when you have infinite resistance your meter doesn't measures any resistance. It's very difficult, when making these videos, to get a point across so that everyone understands without confusing a bunch of people. Also, I know how things work and I'll leave a something out because I know it and I'm not always thinking about others not knowing every little detail. I'm sure you can see where I'm at. At the end of the day I'm just trying to help people. I appreciate that your watching it that closely and want to thank you for watching.
