I just bought steam Skyrim SE and after installing SKSE for SE edition it throws error saying "You have updated to the Anniversary Edition (AE) of Skyrim" even though I clearly see that my edition is SE, not AE. And if I try to install AE version of SKSE, it says that "You are using a newer version of Skyrim than this version of SKSE64 supports". Will try to downgrade Skyrim and test which SKSE will work.

​@@ADHDecentI'm having a strange issue with conflicts in Mod Organizer 2 trying to set up SKSE_64 on my PC. All of the .pex files are suddenly flagged as conflicting in the Data tab and I don't have a clue how to resolve the conflict. Many of my active mods require Script Extender in order to work properly. I've re-downloaded it twice. I don't know if I need to completely uninstall SKSE and clear it out and start over. My Skyrim recently updated a couple days ago and now SKSE is not working at all. I haven't done the Anniversary Edition upgrade for my version of Skyrim because it costs money and I have already paid for the game. Bethesda is confusing me with their weird updating schemes. Can you help? 🥺

I was really reluctant to use skse at first, since manual installations of mods are really quite daunting. Thanks for making an easy guide, this helps a ton

You know this is funny morrowind mods are easier to manually install than skyrim mods like that's insane

Ive watched many videos on installing this and none of them were as good as this one. I use vortex and that is where I was getting tripped up before. Very great explanation and you just opened up my skyrim to a whole load more of mods requiring skse. Thankyou good sir!

IT WORKS THANK YOU I seriously cannot thank you enough for almost a year I have always been bumbed out from missing out on so many mods that need skse64. But this guide really helped. It was a struggle but I ended up manually downloading from nexus instead of the official site because official site made me open it as a vlc player, not a zip file. Thank you again! Cannot wait to try all the mods I have dreamed of playing with!

No problem at all! I’m happy it’s worked for you and wish you the best modding! For future reference btw. You can change the default application to open zip files on Windows. Sounds like VLC is the default for some reason. Install 7-zip and set it as the default. You may need it for some mods in future!

I have over 2000 hours into Skyrim this year alone, and this is when I will conquer SKSE installation finally. I feel it in my bones.

So for some reason, it's requiring me to use the Anniversary Edition for Special Edition, even though I don't have the Anniversary Edition. Now it just closes when I try to run it through the Mod Organizer.

I am also having the same problem running it through Vortex. The program file location say that it is pulling the Special Edition and has no information as to why the Anniversary Edition is needed. Any luck figuring it out?

@@NUGZxzxz I actually managed to get it to run through Vortex right after trying to install it on Mod Organizer 2, funnily enough. It showed me that it was already installed and ready to go when I first booted up Vortex.

You can use the AE size for special edition it's what I do because the special edition skse is a pain in the ass to use now

@@ADHDecent I already got lost in Starfield and my transition to Skyrim, while technically backwards, has helped. Very similar gameplay, menu, interface etc mechanics!

I kept putting this off for my skyrim because of my time doing this for fallout, but I guess I learned from that and it was super easy

I fixed it. The install instructions say to only copy that one folder if you’re mod (I forgot what it’s called) but you still need to copy and add it for SKSE to work l

Vortex says: " deployment failed 72 files were not correctly deployed... The most likely reason is that files were locked by external applications etc.." But my antivirus is off!!!

Thank you! I've come back to the game to try the anniversary edition and for whatever reason vortex couldn't find the .exe to boot with SKSE. Needed to go back to basics and start from scratch, thanks for the no nonsense refresher course! :)

Hey so I am trying to trouble shoot my Skyrim mods and it keeps saying that SKSE isn’t running properly, I bought the full Skyrim anniversary edition with all the DLC like stuff that comes with it. Do I have to do anything special because of it or is there a mod I need to run skse because of this?

did everything exactly as the video says, theres no more conflicting files but im getting these notifications from vortex: Invalid primary tool (i made the new one with the target folder set to the loader.exe file in my skyrim folder), missing masters, and loose files may not load. I have been trying to get skyrim to work since i got my pc 5 months ago and i just cannot for the life of me get the game to actually launch.

Hello, i have been trying to get this to work for the last 3 days now. I have the Skyrim Special Edition if i download SKSE Special edition it tells me that i have upgradet to Anniversary Edition which i did not. If i download the Anniversary Edition it works with Vortex and i can set it as priority aswell but after lounching the game it just lounches without it. Even if i lounch skse without vortex it just lounches normal skyrim, I realy dont know what to do.

I have done all of this and still recieve the error "You are using Skyrim version 1.5.62, which is out of date and incompatible with this version of SKSE (2.2.3). Update to the latest version."

i did all this but it says SKSE is not loading and SKYUI wont work properly. Says something about the update could be an issue but i made sure everything was the Special Edition and not the Anniversary edition. I dont know if it's incompatible with some of my mods but i suppose its possible i might have to disable most of my mods and reenable them until i find the problem. I will edit this comment if i find the issue

So I’m using vortex and after following all of your steps to a T i could not see Skse in the mod list. I did see it greyed out in the tools under the dashboard. Is there something I may have done wrong?

Hi i really could use help. I downloaded the Steam version of Skyrim, then used "BestofBothWorlds" to downgrade it to Special Edition instead of Anniversary. I download SKSE, and followed all your prompts. Vortex does pick it up, but when i try to run it, its met with a message saying it couldn't run the launcher followed by "Couldn't inject DDL". I then tried manually adding it as a tool like you mentioned but i got the same error code. I deleted and uninstalled Skyrim AND SKSE. Then start the whole process all over again thinking maybe i harmed the files at some point. I repeated the proccess: Download from steam > ran the game > verified files > downgraded useing BOBW from the UOSPDP on Nexus > Downgraded Skyrim.Exe > Downlaoded SKSE > Extracted > moved the recommended files over to the game folder as instrcutred > associated SKSE with Vortex. So i truly don't know what im doing wrong or what im doing to conflict the prompts. Please help!

I follow this tutorial exactly and when I go to my toolbar at the front page my entire toolbar is grayed out, the icon for script extender didn’t in color and it doesn’t allow me to run it from the 3 dots

I'm not able to launch with the skse loader. MO2 says the data file is missing from the Skyrim folder, but I can see it in the folder. Any idea what's going on? Did a fresh install exactly according to your directions

@ADHDecent so i downloaded all of the stuff like 7 zip and the file and I have the download on vortex even and I can run skyui and stuff but I still get error code 1 when I boot it up. So I'm trying to manually install this way then so I can fix that. Problem is I'm new to PCs and idk what I'm doing tbh but how do you press and select just one singular item to be dropped on over? And I can't find my steam directory. Idek what that is tbh or what it's supposed to look like for me. But I have 7zip installed and either way I learned that when you press shift and click it kinda highlights only one item which I highlighted the DLL file and the loader file but when I try and press on the folder, it adds the ARC file folder with it. I'm on windows 11 and the tutorial shown and what's shown on my screen aren't sinking up, do I need to down grade to windows 10 in order for this to work?
