    I installed Linuxcnc on an old laptop (dosn't have a parallel port) for simulation purposes. I'm now looking for a newish old PC with parallel port to run my CNC machine, so this was a very interesting video.

    Cool vid, I didn't know you could use linux for this. I agree linux and the ras pi are hard to learn. I used mine to build an Openflexure microscope, which is the only ras pi thing I've seen that was laid out so clearly that a child could probably build it.

    Nice, I have a similar setup for my ANT PCB maker. I first tried "VirtualHere" remote USB emulation - but it was a bit unstable even over wired ethernet. Having the software running on the remote computer directly controlling the CNC (like OctoPi controls a 3D printer) is the best way to go. TIP: After burning the SD card you can open up (the FAT32 part of it) in Windows/Mac and edit some config files to set your Wifi and enable the SSH terminal. Then you can use Putty from windows to do the rest of the install of the remote desktop (via command line). Avoids the need to connect a monitor and keyboard. Well worth practicing with a spare Pi.

    You should also set up a SAMBA fileshare, so you can transfer design files to the Pi from Windows/Mac.

    Hello there I wanted to ask a question When you are doing 5 axis machining, Does your part have to be perfectly in the middle of the rotary table or it could have some offset and then you can offset that in the software ?!

    I was just trying to get xyzac-trt-kins to work with my newly installed Linuxcnc, but could not get it to work by myself. Finally, I asked a question on the Linuxcnc forum. They answered. Thanks to them. I will try to set it up tonight. I will post a link to the site. I will post it on KZread once I get my setup working. forum.linuxcnc.org/10-advanced-configuration/31813-tcp-5-axis-kinematics?start=420#238235

    Oh thanks thats really helpful Another question I saw In your videos when the machine was processing some metal work the fixation place was alittle pumped up and most of the 5 axis machining i see have this type of high elevation is it important to do or you can just fix the wp on the trunion table

    5-axis machining means machining workpieces from various directions. The problem is interference. The clamping method of the workpiece is also an issue. Even though the workpiece can be machined from any angle, it cannot be machined if there is a clamping bar to hold the part in place. The 5-axis is mechanically larger, so it is more prone to interference. As a result, interference is prevented by setting the workpiece higher and making the fixture as small as possible.

    Sorry for the late reply. My video uses a USB Card Reader to write the ISO image to a Micro SD. Insert that Micro SD into the Raspberry Pi and turn it on and Linuxcnc should start up. I don't see any problems here.

    At least the one controlling my 5 axis machine is raspberry Pi4 + Linuxcnc + mesa7c81. I used to use beaglebone+machinekit, but the lack of wifi and slow speed were frustrating. I will post another video about the CNC unit next time.

    @@a-cnc-f how about TCP ? Does your setup can do TCP ?

  • @a-cnc-f

    @a-cnc-f

    @@calico88 Yes, TCP has been successfully configured. But unfortunately I can't explain it properly now. I had a hard time setting it up 2 years ago, but I don't remember how I did it. I have notes saying how I did it, but I don't know if I can reproduce it. I will eventually set up my newly prepared Raspberry Pi to be able to do 5-axis TCP. I set it up by looking at this. I don't know what they are talking about, too high level, but good luck. forum.linuxcnc.org/10-advanced-configuration/31813-tcp-5-axis-kinematics?start=0
