Luckily my generator is easy to wire directly into my house and will run my whole home during and after a storm. I've had it since hurricane Ivan. I bought it the year before Ivan off of Facebook market place and have always been so happy I did. It will run all my lights fans and electric plugs just fine. The only thing that my generator can't handle is my ac system and the 220 electrical. But that's not a problem for us. Just cook using gas outside or plug a crockpot in or an electric frying pan. Easy peasy.

Could have saved money by buying a more capable unit - Siemen's FS140. That unit does NOT trip main breaker, it trips the 20 Amp breaker that you had to make room for. If the surge is big enough - once that breaker trips, you're completely open to further surges. Cabin - since you are "off grid" then conductive incoming surge suppression rather superfluous needed since you don't connect to external power. Only need to worry about radiated EMP emissions but your place isn't built to be protected against radiated EMP.

@@DeepSouthHomestead It would make more sense if that protection unit could somehow be connected to the outlet sides of your 200 Amp main breaker directly without any breaker protection for the unit. I know it makes sense as a way to easily connect the unit to the breaker panel, and your installation is very good, but as was pointed out, the 20A breakers on each line of that unit will trip first if that unit is triggered, thereby removing the protection. That unit would not even be able to "sacrifice" itself because of the 20A breakers. The unit needs to provide a dead short as seen by the main breaker or the main breaker would never trip.

@@DeepSouthHomestead I would like to see that video if possible. I have no doubt about the value of the protection, but simple reasoning says that the device cannot trip a main breaker of 200A, like in your installation, when the device is protected by 20A breakers. This is why the exact way the device is connected is important so if it was shown in the video you saw, I would certainly like to see that as well. Now, having worked in heavy industrial electrical and electronics, I have seen breaker systems where a tripping of a branch breaker can provide a signal or even a simple contact closure that can be used to trip a main breaker, so it is important to know exactly how things in the water plant are connected. Take care. 🤓(My version of a selfie) 😁

I don’t understand how a 20 amp breaker is going to trip the main in any panel. One person I emailed about the breaker for device, said it needs to be two, single 20 amp breakers, not a double pole 20. Also, what’s the deal with the double pole 30/50 breaker you have in that panel? Is it one where two circuits rely on each other, so if one trips, it’ll trip the other?

I would depend on the insurance, but the device not so much. I am an EE and those are no different than the lightning Arrestor I had. Remember you have to complete the circuit to ground to Damage anything. I guess some people have to find out the hard way. Just unplug everything. Take the groung cable off your vehicals. Take the battery out of your Cell phone. Unless Russia uses its 100Megaton Nuke high enough to simulate a CME otherwise they are different. they act differently. What you are really worried about is the Gamma-ray burst that will penitrate the chips in a circuit and destroy it whether it is grounded or not. If you are really worried make a Faraday cage. Line a bucket with tin foil and put you Phone in it.

If an EMP happens you won't have time to do all this. Plus these are used on many government vehicles. I was skeptical till I saw the internal parts and how it works.

@@DeepSouthHomestead I agree with you. It is just I worked om the EMP system for Cop Cars to stop runaway vehicals. The efectivenees is dimished because newer cars have to much Plastic. My problem was, how do you keep from taking out cars not involved in the chase. I saw the one you put on your truck. I don't understant why you hook the ground post of the battery to thr frame twice. If one went to a ground rod that would make more sence. Take the ground cable off when you are not useing the truck or tractor. There will be enough time to shut down your home with the main breaker. Most attacts are going to be on populated area like cities, but if Russa can get that 100 Megaton Nuke high enough over the US it would be devistating on a mass scale. It takes a very large rocket but Russia says they have one. I am an Iowa Farmboy and I love your Homestead down South there.

@@urbansurvivalist7645 when I went through the briefing with the company they explained the extra ground and I'm not sure if it's something I can talk about freely. I agree about the high altitude nuke. Russia does have the capability with there new hypersonic missile. Kinda scary when you think about it. Do what you can brother it's coming at some point.

Danny, your wires are much too long. For the device to work most effectively the wires leading to it must be as short as possible. Any excess length degrades the response time.

If a CME, or EMP hit your area it will fry everything electronic. All your LED lights, CFL's , tv's, computers, fridges, freezers, cloths washers, cloths dryers, coffee makers, well pumps, cell phones, etc. When they hit there is a massive amount of electrons everywhere, not just at your electric box. Back when the CME hit (I believe it was in the early 1800's) people got burned from the coins they had in their pockets. Electronics today are built with very fine components, just an extra volt or two will fry the components. Even if the gadget protected your generator, and electric box you wouldn't have anything electric that works that you could run off of it. Sorry to be negative! The best you can do is to learn to live without all this electronic crap.
