Install Guide: Camaro SS Mishimoto Catch Can - 2016-2018

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Join me as I install a Mishimoto Catch Can on my 2016 Camaro SS. This catch can works alongside the already built in system to avoid oil getting into your intake/manifold/valves etc. For the price, this is one of the best investments you can do for your car.

    Thanks for another great video Matt. I am curious after watching a couple of videos online if anyone happens to have an idea of what percentage of the oil that is getting fed back into the engine these catch cans are catching. I agree that I do not want that oil in my intake, but if I am only catching 3% of all of the oil going through my engine, I would not think it is worth it. If it is catching 50% or more than I say "take my money Mishimoto". :) Thx.

    How much oil have you been collection over a 1500 mile basis? Do you think deleting the pcv line to the intake all together with just a breather filter would be better for carbon build up? Whats your thoughts and recommendations on this from your observations so far?

  • @Lethalgarage

    @Lethalgarage

    7 жыл бұрын

    +JIMBO SLICE I would not put a breather as that releases the pressure the car needs in the motor.

  • @JBWHITEGT

    @JBWHITEGT

    7 жыл бұрын

    I agree. Ive heard of ring flutter and oil contamination from deleting pcv line to intake. Also i heard that high horsepower applications its recommended to delete it. I suppose on a NA set up its best to let the engine relieve pressure via vaccum line vs breather filter. Damn just can get around some things when you want to.

    I really appreciate all your vids! Now...Just installed mine... so far not impressed. The hoses really not a great fit!? Also, the can is up close to engine, like a 1/16? I tried to get it off as much as it could. when engine torque it's gonna be a issue I'm guessing, we will see!? Also the can scratched while tightening the plastic nips? ( lightly touched it, it shouldn't have scratched it) Thought it would have a better coating? This will be a constant touch up and close watch. I hope someone comes out with a better one soon. I mod all the time so I'm not a newb. Just letting others know my experience. Maybe I got a bad one?

  • @Lethalgarage

    +Tara Rene Martin Unlike the RX can (which I had as well in my last Camaro) this can unscrews and can be poured out easily. It is a smaller can so you will want to for sure empty it after every oil change. My RX I did every other oil change.

    I may wind up buying the car at the end of the lease. If I do and if I can keep the carbon build up down, then it's worth it to me. I subsequently saw your video of the catch can clean-out and that sold me, buddy. For a couple of hundred bucks I think it's worth the small investment. Thanks for the fast response. BTW, you and I are both in So. Cal. Think about doing a video on your fave roads to drive here in the area. The freeways aren't happening as you well know! Thanks again, Matt.

    ken sheldon I was worried about warranty issues as well, but now watching this video, it would be extremely easy to just disconnect it before you brought it to the dealer 👍 I think I'm just going to keep that tiny hose in the trunk just in case I need to fast switch and we should be fine. Too bad gm didn't make one that I know of so we wouldn't have to switch anything but I'd rather deal with a 10 minute swap than deal with possible future problems with blow-by.

    +LJ & Son's VLOGS I respond as soon as I can. But yes, any mod can void your warranty. This mod has nothing to do with the type of gas you use.

  • @Game-The-System

    @Game-The-System

    5 жыл бұрын

    In doing some research and in speaking with dealership contacts, basically your vehicle warranty is by "system." Meaning that your suspension is covered, even if you install a non-GM supercharger on your motor. Apparently coverage is even further broken down, depending upon the problem(s) that you encounter. For example, you might have decided to put straight pipes on behind the headers, which could potentially void your engine warranty. However, your entire drivetrain should not be voided by the exhaust mod., meaning that if your transmission has a problem, it should be covered within the miles/years on the warranty. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, if you make any modifications and there is a direct problem related to the modification or the related system, that is the biggest risk. Light mods like air filters, skip-shift bypass, oil catch can and even slight modifications to the exhaust (cat back?), you should be okay. New cam, headers (or more), fuel system conversion (yes, that means e-85), bolted on blowers, turbocharging or even tuning all severely risk voiding any warranty coverage of your engine.

I've beEn a fan of K&N for years...on my E36 & E46 M3's, my Ram HEMI and such...but I'm a bit overwhelmed with all the data on the which and the what on the interweb. I TOTALLY trust your opinions. If this is so important and crucial for the engine why didn't gm engineers put this on doesn't this motor already have an oem catch can???

  • @Lethalgarage

    @Lethalgarage

    +DustinCorvetteZr1 GM put a catch can on the clean side. They are allowed to recycle and burn so much of the oil and gas mixture. In the long run this just makes it so you have to clean the valves and the heads and all that stuff. By adding this catch can you avoid that type of service as quickly and you avoid the buildup of Gunk on your valves and heads. To that fact you will also save your cats from building up with a gun that burns off. This is all allowable by GM as it's considered standard maintenance on the car. But hey save yourself that cost.

    I'll add to Matt's comment a bit here. For GM, this is likely a cost/benefit situation. Not only is it a "maintenance" issue, but is also likely won't affect the engine's operation (depending upon many factors) until after the 100K mile mark. Change your oil regularly, change/clean your air filter regularly and don't use cheap gas...you might not have any dirty valve issues that affect operation until way past 100k miles. So, I'm sure GM doesn't want to spend an extra $30-$100 on each Camaro that leaves the factory just to address a problem that might not show up during the life of the car, especially one that is almost certainly to show up outside of the warranty period.

    These cars are designed to take in the additional blow by as GM figures if you follow normal maintenance it will get cleaned off your valves.
