Insomnium is a Melodic Death Metal band from Finland. Their music is inpired by various classic and romantic poets such as Friedrich Hölderlin, Francis William Bourdillon, Edgar Allan Poe, Eino Leino, Finnish folklore... Their songs are meant to tell a story through poetry and metal, combining the fierceness and beauty all in one using as topics sorrow, struggle, love, never giving up, nature, folklore, life, death, time...
In this song, Insomnium used some verses from Eino Leino's "Tumma". And of course, some gothic literature.

It’s hard to listen to Insomnium and not shed some tears!
I always loved how this and the other tracks on the album sounded. That warm fuzzy sound that gives you the same feelings as drinking a mug of hot chocolate on a freezing cold winters night!

Never gets old. True talent in music.
I can relate to this song on many levels. I feel I was born into a world I don't belong in all the time. But I always remember this song and it chills me to the core when I listen, every time.
i cry while listening to this song I remember my father and i miss him a lot he passed away three years ago

No hay por qué, me alegra que te haya servido y de verdad que esta banda y canción es un buen acompañante en tiempos difíciles. Esperemos eventualmente todos salir de ese bosque aparentemente infinito con una mente más clara y un alma tranquila.

This is maybe my favourite song of all time.. The way I interpret it, it captures the feelings of depression so honestly, I think the meaning of "lowly halls" is the pit of depression.. It is really consoling in a way that no other song is

Absolutely, it still amazes me how, despite being a heart-wrenching song, it never fails to sooth me. It's as if you're being understood, as if a friend is being vulnerable with you and sharing his deepest thoughts. One thing I've always liked about Insomnium is that the growlings, even if deep and somewhat loud, they usually still let you hear the melody and instrumentals, it gives their songs a plus for me.

@@carolina.corona I agree, the song really depicts some raw emotions. Niilo's growls are great, they have a lot of character and emotion, but can also be aggressive and brutal
