Inside Zimbabwe

September 2005
In a bid to destroy the powerbase of his opponents, Robert Mugabe is bulldozing thousands of slums. Secret footage shows the consequences of this policy.
A young boy flees the approaching bulldozer. Fire rages all around as house after house is reduced to rubble. These are the images President Mugabe doesn't want to you see. Millions have lost their homes in part of a bizarre national clean up campaign centred on demolishing Zimbabwe's slums. "Yes there is discomfort now, but discomfort in order to get comfort later," states Mugabe. But opponents are unconvinced. They believe the real aim of 'Operation Restore Order' is to destabilise opposition strongholds. "They are trying to move the electorate in the cities into rural areas where it is easy to manipulate or even abuse them," laments Jay Jay Sibanda. He was forced into exile after being arrested and tortured. Now, he's returning to Zimbabwe to secretly film what's happening in his homeland. Many families haven't received food supplies for weeks, supermarkets have nothing in stock and the queue for petrol lasts several days. Ordinary Zimbabweans are faced with a stark choice: exile if they leave or starvation and destitution if they remain.

Whether in Africa under Mugabe, Asia under Mao or PolPot, Europe under Stalin, or now North America under Obama, Socialism always fails in the same way: seizure of private property, economic collapse & starvation, and brutal oppression.

I';m sorry, but you sound uneducated. Obama has done nothing socialist. Canada is far more Socialist than America, and many European states, such as Denmark and Sweden, are also far more socialist. The above mentioned nations are generally far happier, healthier, and more satisfied than Americans. Socialism, not having to worry about medical bills, knowing someone is there for you when you have some bad luck, knowing the government can act as a safety net due to successfully democratic socialism, it is a very positive thing. Obama is not a dictator. His socialist advances towards Obama care were flawed, but a small stumbling step in the right direction. Prosperous countries require better socialist advances under a potent democratic system, allowing for a health and happiness that Americans do not quite grasp.

Armed struggle is only possible with arms. Zimbabweans have none. If you remember, mugabe confiscated the peoples weapons years ago. Before that people had their own guns etc. Now they have nothing. Problem is mugabe subtly and imperceptibly disarmed and gradually impoverished his people, now his grip is unassailable. Its easy to criticise Zimbabweans for doing nothing, but the only battle concievable there now is for each person to find something to eat day by day.

My great grandma had about 11 children, 7 dead the rest were illiterates, you can't blame her for this particular matter as she was a woman born in 1892 in China. I supposed it's a social-eco unawareness or more likely a myopia indifference towards their children.

The illegal border crossing is done by those without Passports. It is also inconsistent, because the police just let him go. I don't believe he is a political activist. Seems he just didn't have money to visit his family. His claims are wild and not supported by any evidence. Kuitira mari, zvakaoma
