Inside Vietnam's Fight For Freshwater | The Longest Day

Ойын-сауық

In Vietnam, local fruit farmers in the Mekong Delta are already gathering outside the government's water distribution center. Their most basic need is under ration due to prolonged drought lasting over 3 months. The water is free but it's strictly allocated on how how much land each farmer owns. Known as the kingdom of fruits, over 1.2 million people in Tiên Giang Province rely on the fertile land for their main source of income. Every season the farmers deal with saline contamination, a natural process in the Delta where salty sea water mixes with freshwater rivers. But this year, rising sea levels and prolonged drought has caused the contamination to last for 3 months longer than normal at an intensity never seen before.
