Most people miss the significance of Sikh Langar(Sikh community kitchen). It is not that the food is free(which it is), but that people of any religion, race, colour, caste, creed etc are welcome to join, sit together and partake. This is the message of equality of mankind that is central to Sikhism. Note that all people (whether you are a Sikh or non Sikh ) are treated exactly the same in a Gurudwara (Sikh place of worship) anywhere in the world.

As a sikh myself currently in Canada and haven’t been home from a long time. I can’t express in words how nice you guys are and makes me feel great when people treat tourists well. Even all religion people...different caste ..different colour ...rich or poor ...all sat on same floor together Even Kings or beggars sat at same level Emperor Akbar was made to sat on floor ....Many Kings sat on floor like Maharaja Ranjit Singh ... Many Hindu and Jain kings ...Many Prime minister ..President of Uk..India ..Canada .all have sat on same floor ..even British monarch sat on same level to eat food ... This is Guru Blessing ...everyone is equal in god's eyes ...
