As countries like Greece and Spain struggle under massive debts that are impoverishing its people, the elites around the world are getting richer and richer. This report looks at the ever widening gap.
"There are customers that have all the way up to 100 vehicles in their garage." Torsten Muller-Otvos from Rolls Royce tells us. Each one costs about half a million and last year Rolls Royce sold more cars than ever before in their 100-year history, but then the luxury industry knows no crisis. Since 2009 the rich have become on average 6 percent richer. So while one in six Americans now has no health insurance, Manhattan's 58 billionaires have gotten richer. As Manuel Koch points out the ratio of return expected by the rich has totally shifted, "People used to be happy making three million profit. Today companies like Apple account for 6 billion profit. That's profit! Not turnover." But despite their greater income the super-rich aren't too happy about the idea of their tax loopholes being closed. In their minds they give back, even if its not through taxes. "I know a lot of rich friends who have charities...when they reach a certain level they give back to the community. So I think less tax is always better than too much." But as the world struggles through a financial crisis and the globe-trotting elite continue to grow wealthier, there's not much evidence they have their communities interests at heart.

Existing as a human being, in our present times, will cause anyone to realize the importance of money. It is a system set up, and it will continue to function now. All we can do is learn how to navigate through it. I don't blame the ultra-rich for using their money for influence on the rest of the world. It is natural.

Key to getting rich (if you're not born to rich parents): don't have loads of kids you can't afford (just plain stupid); don't borrow loads of money for cars/houses (paying interest is the epitome of stupidity); don't do drugs (obvious); don't eat like a pig (McDonalds etc will make you fat and sick); turn off the television (you will learn nothing and there are only a few hours in each day); learn at least one other useful language (handy for communicating everywhere and anywhere) and focus on what YOU absolutely need (don't sweat the small stuff). Well that's a start. The rest is up to you.

let me add some more "keys to getting rich" : don't have the misfortune of getting sick at to early an age, don't have the misfortune of being born with a congenital disease, don't have the misfortune of having the morality to think of others in every action you take, don't have the misfortune of haveing the negligence of others effect your life, don't have the misfortune of haveing a well ballanced mind Capitalism has been proven demostrably false as the greatest of economic themes. While some capitalism, or for that matter any system of competition, can give rise to a prosperous society - don't have the misfortune of believing that "had they only pulled themselves up by their bootstrap" false narrative. The hard working middle class is now under attack and won't take it as the SILENCED majority.

There are 2 cars driving on a road. One behind the other. The car in back is going 50 miles per hour, the car in front is going 80 miles per hour. At first, the gap between them is only about 20 feet. Astonishingly, 10 minutes later, the gap has grown to almost a mile! We must fix this inequality! I know! Lets give the car in back more gas! And we can get it from the car in front. *Meanwhile, no one bothers to tell the driver of the car in back that cruise control is on and that he can accelerate if he only put his foot on the gas petal.

Basically nothing's changed in thousands of years, we still have robber barons living off the back of the poor. You can't tell me that these nouveau rich people would be rich without the workers. You don't get rich in a vacuum. Today there are less jobs due to automation, a machine can do the job much faster if not better. I remember in the 1960's you could leave a job and go get another straight away, today you're extremely lucky if you manage to find a part time one, and this is often due to computerisation.

I think some people enjoy fanning the flames of class warfare. Their indignation is not completely unjustified, but I think it is important to recognize there are two different kinds of rich people. One kind gained their wealth by providing value which was then consumed by the masses. They make the world a better place with innovation and community improvements. These people do not deserve your scorn. The second kind is the most vile creatures ever to crawl the face of the planet. The people who created mortgage backed securities knew they were shit but did it anyways. Scumbags like Enron stole from everyone around them to reach the heights they did. Banksters that fund both sides of a war, instigate wars, send millions to their deaths all in the name of profits, this is where your anger should be directed.

The glaring problem with tax inequality is a failure of government. A flat tax rate (that only kicks in at a set level of income) is by far the fairest system to have. The problem is governments have become far too greedy for tax money. Smaller government and much more careful use of tax money must be demanded by the people.

We are in a World of consumerism. wealth keeps people at work. No wealthy person sits at home and counts there money, its reinvested over and over. Its simple, look at a biscuit, and consider its journey, The contents come from all over the World, The contents are accumulated and in this journey the people are employed to produce this biscuit. Its a simple biscuit and it is the cause of wealth distribution. What the poor have is there are a lot of them and they should have the power to decied how much wealth is distributed to them. So i say workers join and grow strong ,take away the power to decide what is done to you by big businesses ,and corrupt governments. but don't destroy the biscuit trade.

Rich people don't pay income taxes. So this is irrelevant. What is needed is a net worth wealth tax to seize their assets in excess of 999,999,999 dollars so that billionaires are outlawed. That excess would fund a guaranteed minimum income for each adult citizen at or below the federal poverty line of $2,000 per month.

What matters is how did "The Rich" get started and how do they proceed and WHAT CAN or COULD GO WRONG (all the things that could cause very bad results). There is too little of that in this video. This is like a video about female business executives that spends all its time talking about what shoes they wear and where they buy them.

Forget Bill Gates. His Mom was a member of the Board of IBM and a friend offered her DOS. The Govt then allows the UC pieces of shit to dictate the laws...and the laws make things harder for everyone else, they allow our corporations to shit on the people and country that built them and then leave our shores solely for Profit. The laws also make everything more expensive at every opportunity and to add further insult to injury make us pay for their mistakes, while they profit the entire way. Never got around to explaining how the rich keep getting richer. Here it is: Stock market crashes '08. Pensions in hedge funds go bust. Your 401k? The guy managing it sold...a lot. If you managed your own investments you likely sold a lot. And it was all sold at a loss. You lost money...where did it go? To the rich assholes who bought up your cheap stocks and could afford to wait out the market's resurgence. Meanwhile, the easiest way to save money running a company is to cut payroll (e.g. layoffs). Doing that allows for huge bonuses, because literally it is coming from the fired worker's paychecks. Next, they can invest in the next bubble (student loans) and get back to messing with derivatives. To the rich, the stock market is a casino, but they often play with your chips. Literally, the money for the rich is coming from the poor's pockets. Take heart: history has shown whenver society achieves any kind if imbalance like this, the poor rise up and usually kill the rich. So go kill some time reading up on the French revolution and know that soon, soon we can kill and eat these motherfuckers.

Especially when he took his half billion from Goldman Sachs. Not to mention he saved another 10 million from taxes when he became Treasury Secretary.

louiethegreater1 If the incomes of the rich fell, why would it be needed to "mention" investment income fell? Incomes of the rich are more oriented to investments. The point seemed to be simply the reality when incomes of the rich fell, incomes of the group not tied to investments as much didnt decline as much. Income inequality reduced!!! The rich got poorer a lot, and how did the bottom 50% fare? Poorer too. And, when the economy reversed itself, the incomes of the rich soared right back UP! And, Obama tells us the middle class and poor are now doing better! Clearly, the fate of the bottom 50% go to shit when the incomes of the rich go to shit, and improve when the incomes of the rich improve too.

louiethegreater1 I never heard anyone, even leftists, claim the middle class was helped when those incomes of the rich collapsed. And now that their incomes have recovered, both employment and wages are improving too. Thats just fact. But, The Federal Reserve`s policy is to pump money into the financial sector, which drives investment the rich own to prosper more than the poor and middle class. Income inquality getting worse and worse cooresponds with the increasing stimulus from the Fed, to finance. This is a Govt created problem. .

Can you see us at a traffic red light intersection? One day he was a passenger on my public transport bus. He was in a wheelchair/disabled.

I think all you people that sound like you are quoting Ayn Rand are forgetting something called corporate welfare which Rand would hate. The executives of walmart are some of the richest in the world and that is because they pay their employees practically nothing. How do they manage this? By assuming the state will make up the difference with welfare. Similar to Ford that payed their employees more to build a middle class that would buy their cars, Walmart is making their employees poor so all they can afford is to shop at walmart. Furthermore if you are making money by saving(economically illiterate people call it investing) what are you really contributing. If you have money to burn, which you are no longer working for, why not start contributing. If you are living entirely off capital gains you are no better than the person on welfare especially if those gains are coming from walmart.

Klaus the ex ski champion has the right idea. People need to look how the rich do things and do the same once they understand the reasoning behind it instead of just sitting their being envious which gets you nowhere. You can argue tax breaks for the rich and many other points as to the reason why the gap between rich and poor is widening, but I personally am along the same line of thinking as Klaus, and as a result believe the reason to be that people are becoming increasingly envious of the rich instead of viewing them as role models and examples.

TRUTH; You create your own reality. TRUTH : Everyone is born rich and comes fully equiped to actualise the endless potentials. [•10 minutes without air to breathe, and you will be dead or brain dead. •3 days without sleep...and your body may lock up and stop any functionality.e.t.c] True Success is an inner state of joy, happiness and peace. That is the state everyone is striving for. And therein is the key and the wisdom in Mastery. On the other hand, the right use of your imagination will get you all those toys. 1.Know what you want 2.Believe that you already have it ( e.g FEEL NOW how you would feel if someone presented you that dream car/home e.t.c ) 3. Maintain that state of elation and appreciation as you get guided through thoughts and ideas on what to do ,though with the KNOWING it's a done deal. 4. Enjoy the process as it materializes. And so on..

why so many people hate rich people?? I don't get it,. they provide jobs & they spend money which helps the economic going and they're the motivators & inspirational. I'm not a billionaire but a multi-millionaire, I feel like I have to be so humble & pretending to be a normal person in order to have people like me. even some of my friends were not really nice to me once they found out where & how many properties I have or some how they found out my assets. I treat everyone nice, kind & respected whether that person is a doctor or a homeless, rich or poor but it's makes me so sad that I feel majority of my friends are not genuine to me. This is one of the reasons that I ended up hanging out & traveling with my friends who are in similar situations economic level. Don't hate/judge people because they have more than you,. judge them based on their characters & personalities & how they treat you. The last few years I was so fed up with those people I don't really care anymore but I rather enjoy my luxury life instead

I guess nowadays most people are envious and jealous, they are covetous! The reason is due to the bombardment of a materialistic lifesytle badly influenced from media, like the internet and tv. People were a lot more ignorant and innocent back then when there were less technology like that. More people were also religious from tradition, which teaches people to be righteous and good to others. Nowadays far less believe in God and consider themselves as their own God, living like an animal or just completely lost without righteous guidance. They don't study or know the scriptures anymore, which teaches you to turn away from iniquity. Through out history most of the rich have oppressed and treated others badly. Most are boastful and live only in luxury, when there are many suffering and dying. Here's some scripture that teaches people not to be obsessed to get rich: Psalm 37:16-17 16 Better the little that the righteous have than the wealth of many wicked; 17 for the power of the wicked will be broken, but the LORD upholds the righteous. Hebrews 13:5 5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” Matthew 6:24 24 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. 1 Timothy 6:10 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. 1 Timothy 6:17-19 17 Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. 18 Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. 19 In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life. Ecclesiastes 7:12 12 Wisdom is a shelter as money is a shelter, but the advantage of knowledge is this: Wisdom preserves those who have it. James 5:1-6 1 Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming on you. 2 Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. 3 Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days. 4 Look! The wages you failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. 5 You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter. 6 You have condemned and murdered the innocent one, who was not opposing you.

people are jealous even if they claim otherwise. Extreme leftist ideas like communism have led to mass murders throughout history of mankind. They are not ruled by empathy for the poor but hate for the rich. That is a huge difference. From working in blue collar jobs for many years I can say that people that don't achieve like to watch tv all day, drink, party, spend money on stupid shit. Then they blame the rich that they have no money, like the rich own them something. A lot of people bust their asses off to get where they are. But people like to blame others because they don't have the will to get there. Crabs in the bucket mentality is what it's called. If you want something in life and work harder than anyone to get it and when you get it just expect the hate coming from all the lazy people who never had what it took mentally to get where you are.

Watching this in time of pandemic and being aware of how a large part of the world is at the moment facing drastic economic downturn and ordinary people have lost their jobs and homes for good as a consequence,is almost as good a study in pessimism as any. Add to that the exacerbating fact that this Covid-19 crisis is a death knell to most economies--and people for that matter-- and many who will survive shall have to deal with poverty as part of new normal( many already are). Also I'm ill at ease of the fact that even in the midst of seemingly moribond state of affairs, in the end ,the"biggies",them that are most agressive multi-billion-dollar conglomerates, they would have benefitted most from this crisis and would heave themselves even bigger when the dust settles and leave everything and everyone else in the ashes of insurmountable financial wreckage. Holy shit.
