I was in that exact tank a couple of weeks ago.. Was a pleasure for me! Especially the staff did a very good job at explaining all the features! Thumbs up to the tank museum staff!

Just a few questions: 1. What were the IR lights used for? 2. What was the purpose of the glacias plate? 3. When would the commander have to override the gun traverse? Other than when the gunner is incapacitated?

1. they are used with night optics to see at night 2. to deflect mud, most likely 3. to point the gunner in the right direction

100 years from now: These were the state of art Armata, Abrams, Leopard etc. Almost full digital 200 years from now: So this is a remote computer that did everything, nothing else to be seen as it's all enclosed and welded in except that you put ammo in here. 300 years from now: These are rail gun tanks, you charge the batteries here or you just replace them. Full AI control. 400 years from now: So this here is a tank, you just can't see it, cloaking mode is on, come by on Friday.

Never gets old.

How come the 2 versions of the Chieftain's turret in-game (Chieftain mk 6 and T95/FV4201) have different armour values for the turret front? Which (if either) is the actual thickness? (And if not is there any place to find out what the true values are? These castings are so interesting but there seems to be very little info on them.)

there have been several iterations on chieftain, increasing the monolithic steel armor thickness over the years and in the end adding stillbrew abaltive armor.

@@zhufortheimpaler4041 the base casting remained the same (at least in terms of armour thickness) throughout the life of the vehicle. Stillbrew was an appliqué armour package, the underlying armour was still the same.

When you join a battle and see you're up against a chieftain: Aight Imma head out...

@@JA-de7ev It is not made up. They just don't display the correct name. The ingame model is actually called Object 726. The project existed in metal and underwent extensive testing but was later dropped due to high production costs and heavy tanks becoming obsolete.

lots of info, but somehow one of the main items of this tankwas not mentioned: this was , especially the first 15 years or so, one of the worst tanks in the world. it was extremely unreliable. the gear box was unreliable, but the main problem was the engine. the engineers of Leyland were obviuosly not capable to design such a special engine, and there was bad workmanship and no or little quality control. they kept trying to improve the engine, several times the army tried to find another engine that would fit, but unsuccessfully. after many years the engines got somewhat better.......
