Do you also sharpen serrated bread knives on the 1x30? If so would you mind showing us your technique please?

Yes I for sure will do a video covering that. There are a few ways to sharpen a serrated bread knife, or just even knife in general. But I’ll make sure to cover them. You can use the 1x30. But if they are really bad and needing to be repointed then a dremmel or a diamond wheel would be the best choice.

I'd like to do this with my sander. Where did you get the angle guide that goes on backwards from the original one? Mine is used in the stand up configuration but if I lay it down like yours the angle guide will be backwards

I got mine from Amazon. There is edge leading and edge trailing. Edge trailing is the one that I have. Where the belt moves away from you. You have an edge leading which works, and some people like, but not for me. If you look at the title on Amazon it should say belt moves away. 😊 if you need further help finding it let me know and I’ll see if I can track down a link.

With the electronic angle measure tool do you measure the angle of the surface of the sand paper and the angle of the guide and take the difference? Gotta think that the tool is not necessarily level in the bed of a truck.

Actually it’s much simpler than that l. The angle gauge can be re-zeroed. So you set it on the flat where the belt is and set that to zero. Then set it on the angle guide and it will give you the angle in correlation to the new “zero” all you have to do from there is set the desired angle.

@@hbbarn8607 of course glad I could help. Also the it’s magnetic. So it would be so easy to set the angle for a table saw. 😊

The orange angle cube in conjunction with the angle guide that I installed on the 1x30. It’s just one from Amazon. The angle cube is by Klein tools. 😊

@@robertmunguia250 yep it’s a digital angle guide. The angle cube is typically used by electricians for bending pipe to the correct angle. They work great. But now you have me curious what analog options there are other than say a protractor.

What are you using to piwer you equipment and how do you charge for going to someone's house to sharpen? Ty

  • @Samsmobilesharpening

I use a 400 watt inverter hooked up to my truck battery. Typically every couple of hours I will turn on my truck if a sharpening takes that long. Typically I’m at someone’s house for an hour. Eventually I would like to build a battery pack that can supply a few hours of battery and can be plugged in to recharge.

@@Samsmobilesharpening Thanx! How about how you charge please. It doesn't have to be your specific charges. Just wondering if you charge by the mile or have 3 knife minimum to show up or?

@@dougsmith4525 so originally I started out with a minimum of $60 but found that scared a lot of people away. So what I do now is a call out fee based on different ranges. So even if I only get called out to sharpen a knife, im not loosing anything. Worth it to me and the customer that just wants to try my service but is on the fence.
