I think it's wrong to blame this on the general public when even if you do sort and try to recycle, many companies will just throw it in a landfill with normal trash anyway. It is not a lack of motivation for most people, it is a lack of options.

true. imagine the scenario in south east asia. Most likely countries to successfully adapt this are Singapore and Brunei. Singapore due to strict laws and Brunei due to monarchy rule. But other countries will struggle to adapt this, even for my own country Malaysia.

Etsy is a great place to sell used or recycled. I’ve sold $6,000 in 2020 and it was all vintage or antiques with pre-used packaging. I’m a small business too.

Great way to save going to landfill sadly here in the uk the charity shops are killing this kind of thing by over pricing for secondhand items making it not much cheaper than buying new

The over pricing i think is cause some or many thrift places are trying be like ebay so any used stuff they try sel for more to profit from it anytime. same happen in the states that some thrift have gone ebay ways to make extra to pay workers or fill pockets anytime. so gotta debate if what u see is really worth the price at time. the value of anything is what we give and willing to pay for it anytime.

This is incredible. The country in general is incredible. Like only 1% only goes to the landfill? That's amazing! How I wish it's like this in other parts of the world too. That would be great if ever :)

I like the stores that have used stuff, it is a hassle to have search for individual items on craiglist and then drive all over for each one. Where I live people have money, so a lot of them wouldn't consider shopping at a place like this, so the stores that have tried to make have unfortunately closed down. I was able to buy everything for my place at a huge discount, all in new condition, all good quality and saved myself thousands of dollars (kitchen table/chairs, leather recliner/ottoman, full bedroom set, cherry wood office desk/high end office chair, lamps, TV Set/DVD player, computer/monitor, book cases, work area table/chair/tools/garden equipment, etc.. The other reason is most of the furniture stores that sell new items, make you wait weeks/sometimes months to deliver. I just paid the store owner selling used items cash and they delivered everything the next day. The only item I purchased new was my bed/mattress.

Australia has similar things called Green sheds or trash and treasure style shop fronts at most tips. Not a mall exactly but they sell items people have taken to the tip.
