Think you’re pretty good behind the wheel? Sure, you’ve never gotten a ticket, you obey traffic laws, and hey, maybe you even think you’ve got the fastest routes to your favorite destinations memorized. Ever thought about becoming a private chauffeur? So far, we’d say things are looking good if you are interested! But here’s the thing… we can tell you you’re in for quite a bit more than just driving when you embark on this career path. And the more wealthy the client, the more you have to… shall we say… put up with? As a driver, you are in for oh so much more than just turning the keys to the ignition, checking your mirrors, and driving your client around safely to anywhere they wish to go. Being a billionaire’s driver means long hours and long commutes, and frankly, sometimes clients don’t tip. But get this-- it also means you get a glimpse into the private, and sometimes debaucherous, lives of the 1%. And sometimes, you even get invited to lavish parties, at the most exclusive locations. Today we look at what it’s like being a billionaire’s private driver. The good, the bad, and the… well, let’s call it the unexpected. It’s a life of keeping your client happy, with some rather standard responsibilities, and some other duties that might make you reconsider if your paycheck should be much, much bigger. We’ll let you decide if you think all the extra responsibilities are worth it, or if they are not!

I worked for a private family which is better than driving all different people. When you work for a family you become part of the family. It pays very well ( over $200,000/ year) …if you work for the right people. You are responsible for everything with that vehicle. Servicing it/ washing it making it up to their standards. You have credits cards issued by them to you and your spending will be looked at but I had free reign to take care of them. I even purchased/leased their cars having the dealer agent visit the office with the paperwork for them to sign. I drove all the best cars but mostly Mercedes and Range Rovers at the end of the day I drove my ‘94 beater Plymouth home and was happy to be with my own family. I had a good look at that world for 10 years and in the end I preferred my middle class life and friends but it was an awesome experience being in G4 and G5 Gulf-streams. No TSA. The pilots were employees also. Drove the car right next to the plane and unloaded the bags and got on. When you get back they drive your car up the plane and they load the bags and off you go. That was the best! The most important cargo carried was the clients and their children. They entrusted me and I respected that. You really spend more time with them then I did with my own wife. It was wonderful and I will always keep the experiences that I had as an important part of my life. The perks were good! Heath, dental, 401K’s. Huge bonuses far upwards of over $10,000 at Christmas…the client was on vacation…I was on vacation…they normally didn’t take me. One to two months off in summer and two at Christmas thru the New Year. Spoiler alert…most high end people hire retired law enforcement to ensure their safety at the same time. Best of luck..it’s not for everyone but I made a great living and own my homes outright and my kids have no college debt! Retired now.

An exciting industry especially when you’re on a large event where you can hang out with other drivers. Most trips will be airport drops and pickups and you’ll be in traffic all day. The best jobs are when you wait on a client for hours and get a good tip. It’s not for everyone and driving ultra wealthy people and seeing how well they live compared to you who are struggling can become discouraging and even depressing. Many drivers who leave this industry go into trucking, vice versa . The tips can range from nothing to a couple hundred or more on occasions. Try and get stretch limo jobs more often which pay more as you’re usually waiting for hours. You are a servant to the wealthy and must be quiet and respectful and know the city you’re in or they may insult you. Don’t just rely on GPS

Do an excellent job, but claim the respect you deserve! Call me a racist but there are cultures with a higher share of disrespectful clients.

Like anything that is private service related it all comes down to the boss there are Assholes bosses that will use and dump you for the lowest amount of pay he think he can lord over your without consequences and there are bosses that treat you like family take cares of you in your time of need and financially reward you well and boses that are in between those 2 spectrum and the 2 spectrum can flip over night it all comes down to how much they really respect like to be around you or trust and believe in your loyalty people at that level sometime make more then the average American annual income while there taking a nap so if you can become part of there family the skies the limit.

As someone who has done security driver jobs for corporate execs, their kids, diplomats and music artists they are not that far off in this video. Best thing you can do is smile. As goofy as that sounds smiling and being diplomatic will serve you well. I had a client and their wife ( not naming names) get into a rather heated argument in the car. They go on for 15 mins over Lord knows what. Well eventually the client looks at me and the conversation goes as following C - tell my wife I'm right. You know that I'm right. Me- sir that's a private matter id rather not get involved sir. C- no tell her I'm right S- sir id rather not get involved its not my place. C- tell her Me- if you are ordering me to tell her I will. C- yes I am. Me- ok sir. Ma'am your husband is right according to his orders. Client and wife- start laughing uncontrollably and the argument ends. Simple diplomatic solution and comedy ended what would have been a rather dreadful night.

That the rich are extremely cheap is no surprise to me. I deliverd pizza in all classes of neighborhoods and the rich treat people that they see as below them like shit expecualy young people born into money. I learned real fast that expecting a tip let alown a good tip from the rich is a pipe dream. I have delivered a pizza orders that was over $100 to rich peoples houses on multable occasions who where giving a party and only be given a single dollar after I was asked to set up all the pizzas and sodas in the back yard where I was only required to hand the pizzas over at the front door. Another thing the delivery charges that restaurants charge is not a tip the company keeps that money as profit or sees it to cover the tip wage that they pay the driver. Tip wage is $2.13 that is all that the restaurant pays the driver you are expected to make up the difference in tipping them. The best tippers are the middle class or people who sees them selfs as middle class. I have had rich people make me stand in the freezing rain because their front door has no covering and then take forever to get the money to pay me then bitchthat the pizza is not popping hot. On the other hand I had quite a few middle class people let me step into the Front door hallway so I would be out of the rain wail they fetch the money.
