Inside the home of British artist Sacha Jafri

SUBSCRIBE FOR MORE ART VIDEOS: ow.ly/6bcB30h80Pf
Barack Obama, George Clooney, Madonna, Kevin Spacey, Leonardo DiCaprio, Bill Gates, Richard Branson - are all the names of people whose walls are graced by the works of British artist Sacha Jafri.
It's no wonder Jafri has previously been hailed as one of the world's most important living artists.
A former classmate of Tracey Emin and a specialist in 'magical realism', Esquire Middle East were invited by Sacha into his Dubai home, ahead of his 18-year global retrospective, to discuss everything from the man's meditation techniques to his brief career as a professional cricket player.

Maitri I agree. I think giving a painting a name or title is fine but that’s as far as it [a description] should ever go. Elucidating detail and foisting meaning is destructive to art. Someone should send him a copy of the essay: _Death_ _of_ _the_ _author._ He’s talented, and his colors are powerful. But they’re not matched artistically, his style is a pastiche of other greats before him and he doesn’t outride culture or stay ahead of it because he’s far too involved in it. I look at his work and it walks the thinnest line between whatever it is and graffiti. In a way that’s unique. I can see how Hollywood and billionaire types that know little about anything are attracted to it.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I love his paintings! Edit - I just googled his name and there is a Forbes article from March 2021 that mentions his Journey Of Humanity painting recently selling for $62 million. So for people that are saying his paintings are garbage, he talks too much, why are there so many paintings in his house and he must not be selling them and blah blah blah THERE YOU GO!

As an Artist/Art Therapist, I enjoyed hearing his process. I can form my own ideas but I wish more artists would be a bit more willing (or able) to discuss their work. I get that the viewer takes what they will from a finished piece, but if you have a body of work and concepts you are exploring, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with discussing it if someone asks. It depends on your motivations. If you want to communicate and express through your art, certainly you can let it speak for itself, but I think the level of criticism on this thread has much more to do with frustration and perhaps resentment seeing another artist’s work being valued. And, you don’t have to like it, but no, it’s not “easy” to consistently create large scale works and if you think abstract work itself is easy, I suggest you try it. Many artists won’t have a clue what’s going on in their own work but self-reflection and exploring what you’ve created is not a bad practice.

It's okay not to like another artist's work, but please choose to be positively constructive if you must comment...and not such scornful doubters. Above all...be kind. He studied at Oxford University and the Goethe Institute - Royal Academy. In 2010, he was described as "the youngest artist in the history of art to be offered a 10 year retrospective visiting the top museums of the world and having recently pipped Damien Hirst to top spot in auction in London." In 2018, he received the Global Gift Foundation’s Humanitarian Award and since early 2019, "he has collaborated with, and raised more than $48m for good causes by auctioning special one-off works." Lastly, he has been recognized by the United Nations for his artistic and humanitarian efforts. In a world of growing tensions between and among diverse groups and across all societies, it is now more important than ever-especially in our digital lives- to not only be tolerant of our differences, but to be personally and socially responsible toward one another and nurture our capacities to be positive moral forces in the world. I'm a Citizen of This World I am one of many who live on planet earth I take my role here seriously I am part of everything that's going on 'Cause I believe in me I am part of everything A part of everyone, everywhere I am here and I belong I'm a citizen of this world. ~Teresa Jennings (1994)

You're free to look at some old 1500s cheese anytime you want. To the makers of this video, you did yourselves a disservice by in detail showing this guy, who has zero problems dissecting his art away, more than the actual paintings. The bad side of the art world is people convincing rich people that something is meaningful; let the art and ideas speak for themselves more. barrack obama and clooney owning his work wouldn't be the point I'd use to depict the quality of his work but rather his fame which is very different. I also am a massive art nerd and artist myself. I can get behind most abstract painter's process and paint an aweful lot too, but tbh his thought process is kinda weak: "I wanted to express A so I did B" without really ever getting to the point of how or why the two ideas converge. Then My last gripe with him. 12 works per 2 year is REALLY taking his time. I've been painting for a bit more than 8 years and I lost track of how many projects I did so that would be weird for a painter of this supposed caliber to only have produced 108 paintings in that time frame. I'm not hating on the guy though I'm happy for him. I'm just always a bit weirded out when I see the kind of artist that float on top while some way lesser known works are so much more thought provoking. I hate the comparison but the money aspect forces me to
