FTX customers weren't investors, they lost funds that they deposited on the platform, which could have been crypto or cash. They didn't lose money from investments, they lost access to their funds because FTX stole their deposits.

6 months ago i was bulllish on investing in Crypto. i disregarded the opportunity i had to invest on the strength of encouragement of two friends who have already been trading for the last year. they said it would be a good idea when i had 15,000.00 i was looking to put that into something i could make a return on in a few years. this is exactly why i didnt. and im so glad i listened to my gut to not do so. i thought crypto was a losers fad 6 months ago, and its only been reinforced now.

We’re in a normal crypto bear market and it goes on 4 yr cycles based on the Bitcoin halving. This whole FTX collapse was due to a fraudster in which the whole crypto community is glad he’s out and not due to crypto itself. It would be like if Robinhood or Fidelity committed financial crimes, it’s not the stock market itself.

He legitimately made a million dollars a day from trading Bitcoin but he became greedy and that was his downfall.

Yes, this business wasn't going to make him a billionaire. But it easily netted him a fortune of $100 million to $200 million or so. Some people's greed cannot be quenched...

FTX was a bank, and Fried was not a crypto currency titan. Fried is essentially the Goldman-Sachs of crypto.

I think it's different. If somebody invested in a crypto coin or a stock that lost all of its value, that's one thing because you should know that's a possible outcome. Putting your deposits on an exchange where they guarantee it won't be loaned out or touched but then they steal it to invest in risky ventures is just lying about what your business does.

This wasn't a failure of tech; more a human error/fraud. We need to learn the difference. Most have been such. Apart from Terra/Luna the recent big failings have been similar. Pyramid schemes and such existed before crypto.

It goes into a "Crypto Bank" - hence FTX, which was a fraudulent bank. These crypto banks are not regulated or secured. I always knew it was a scam.

@@artyfuffkin7805 Yes, it has to be sold first. Then you get the cash, and can transfer into your bank accounts. I'm not sure if it setup with PayPal yet. But this is where the fraud comes in, because they are basically worthless and has no value. Only a temporary value. Warren Buffet spoke extensively about this about a year ago.

It will be interesting to see how hard the Feds push campaign finance charges.

Guilty! And I agree he is not the only one that needs to be arrested. But also... the big guys know to make him look really bad to cover up other schenes we don't know about yet. He got greedy. I'm sure their are others doing it far longer than he had, gnat just don't go this overboard. They'll probably help him later.

I realized that the secret to making a million is saving for a better investment. I always tell myself you don't need that new Maserati or that vacation just yet. That mindset helped me make more money investing. For example last year I invested 80k in stocks (with the help of my Financial Advisor of course) and made about 246k, but guess what? I put it all back and traded with her again and now I'm rounding up close to a million.

There is more to this. Things aren't always as they seem

When fiat money came in, SBF sold them FTT coin. Then the FTT coin, went into collateralization, and other financial tricks, but whom held the cash. lol. When another exchange tried to convert the FTT to cash, the company did not have the cash to cover. Billions is missing.

We know this happens all the time but they're just REALLY coming down hard on him because it's cryptocurrency.

This is just the first step in outlawing non-government issued cryptos and SBF just played his role like he was directed.

He was able to do this because of the greed of people who were looking for a get rick quick ability. Bitcoin drove many people to crypto currency. Last I checked there were over 9,000 crypto currencies. many people want the over night quick buck and are willing to pay for the chance.

This is what greed and ego comes down to! He had all the opportunity to operate in a healthy way but that wasn’t enough for him. He wanted to make a name for himself up there with the big boys at the expense of peoples trust and money and this is what it comes down to.

I love the way he pretends he was so blissfully ignorant of how funds were being moved from the FTX platform to his Cryto trading firm. At least it gives us clue is to what type of defense he's going to play.

This is also going to be a major blow to all of the big companies that are currently partnered with FTX. Hopefully they start rounding up all of the people who’s hands he’s been greasing as well
