I've been listening to him since I was twelve. Your Song is my favorite, and believe me, with him, it's hard to pick only one as a favorite. My son had this played at his wedding reception for the mother/son dance. As a child he was sung Levon as a lullaby. His first concert we took him to was Elton John, when he was ten. He stood up in his seat and danced to Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting. Need I say more?

As a huge EJ fan, this interview is like gold to me. It's probably the one of the best EJ interviews I've heard because he shows us just how he creates the songs he composes. Elton is incredibly honest, witty and extremely talented, and what I really love is that he has never failed to give Bernie Taupin his props as a lyricist. They are probably one of the greatest songwriting teams of my lifetime. I was glad he credited soul music as the basis of his work because he really is a soulful person if you listen to his music. It's not just pop music, it's something that touches the very heart of you and he puts his true emotions into it, which is basically the essence of what soul music is. Elton is a living legend, one that we'll never see again. God bless you, Sir Elton.

Elton - I'm pretty sure you practiced enough. I was fortunate enough to see him in a one man show - just him, no band - and he really was Captain Fantastic. I always refer to Elton as "my first musical love" because - on his birthday in 1975 - I was the correct caller to whatever rock station in DC, and was given my choice of his albums. I requested Greatest Hits, played it for a buddy (Innocent LIttle Davey Howie, lol) and we both became Elton addicts. Going forward, we bought different albums from his back catalog so we could share so both of us had access to all of his released material. Elton lifted me out of listening to adolescent marketed crapola like The Partridge Family. Oh, those magical days...

I ❤ Sir Elton! He can write songs in 15 minutes? And impromptu from a student’s book? OMG!😳🤩😍 I listened with my mouth agape in awe!😲 I wish I could’ve seen him & Billy Joel perform together on that tour! It was sold out in minutes. There are a finite # of piano keys but he keeps pulling more music from them. He’s definitely a flat writer which is why I couldn’t play most of his sheet music. I’m still discovering some of his songs, like There’s Something In The Way You Look Tonight from ‘97. And a remake of Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word with a boy band called Blue. How lucky for them! Idk how he still had the stamina and voice to do 3 hour concerts and no sheet music! Damn! Even now that he’s done touring and spending more time with family, he still wants to find another boy band in England! I didn’t know he had throat surgery. I just that his voice was deeper from age, which does happen. That caused a lot of rewrites in different keys.

I'm surprised when they did the Restoration album, which was an album of country musicians doing country versions of Elton John and Bernie Taupin songs, nobody thought to make Candle in the Wind a country song. You'd think they'd get Dolly Parton, Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum, Kenny Chesney, or Luke Combs to sing it. But no. Didn't happen.

Elton - I'm pretty sure you practiced enough. I was fortunate enough to see him in a one man show - just him, no band - and he really was Captain Fantastic. Absolutely loved that show, really wish I could have seen him again before he retired. If the Peer Gynt thing doesn't prove to you that Elton is a genius, I don't think any evidence could convince you of anything.
This is such an amazing program focusing on the brilliance of Elton John

Truly a talented artist that has spanned many decades! ❤️
A quadruple threat. Virtuoso pianist, fantastic song writer, great singing voice and a charming and often hilarious raconteur.
Should have had the piano closer ... you gave him a great walking workout! But what a fabulous interview. Thank you (both) for a wonderful time!
One of the pinnacle pianists of all time.
Sir Elton John is Mozart and more. I grew up with him and his music. A gentleman who battled the demons of life and beat it. God bless him and his compassion.

Have been a fan since 1970, seen him live twice. He's always been there, hope he's around for a long time yet.
Thank you so much to the kindly soul who uploaded this; I am a Elton John and Bernie Taupin fanatic and ive been wanting to watch the whole thing for a long, long time! Id seen odd clips, border song, Daniel, and Honky Cat. However, not seen the whole interview. Thanks again!

Oh i've been longing to see this full one again. Many thanks for posting!
Thank you for this episode. It is the best.
Nice to watch these shows again! Thank you❤❤❤

Glad I found this video.
You know, if this whole performing thing doesn't work out for him, he'd be really good at running workshops on composition ;)

What a joy watching this!! Love you Elton ❤
I love Elton, just as he is. He's a great guy and has written some mind blowers.
😭 Your song i cry every time and it was Princess Diana's favorite song such a gift Elton and Bernie thank you ,Your song is Heavenly.
Loved this! Thanks 🙏
One of the truly great artists of modern pop music....
He is one of my very favorites. I love him and his music so much. He is pure genius.
I always liked the emotional strings in LEVON
The strength he put out even despite his run with paulbonerism and will be performing for years to come
I ❤ Sir Elton!
17/11/70. Greatest concert album ever.

Elton. John. Rock. God
I’m with you, Sir Elton. I could play piano but not well enough. But choir singing was my forte (ah….there it is). Put me in a choir and I’m happy as can be. Even to this day at 62 years of age.
Why have Elton John keep getting up and going to the piano just let him sit there and play and talk about how he writes his music 🎶, Brilliant writer and performer .Legendary writer of music .

Exactly! ... And 30 minutes on "Your Song" is about 20 minutes too much.
A true Master of Music. Thank you Sir Elton John
I was tearing up too.
If you asked me for my favorite Elton track it would probably be Nikita or "Candle in the Wind* but the version for Diana. He has payed her the ultimate honor by never playing it live again. It's too tied to that one moment in time. To perform it again would cheapen that moment.
Big fan from the early ( best) days .. His interviews are always so honest
Wonderful! Thank you for posting. A real treasure
The last few minutes shows what he is. It’s all natural. Instant recall of musical chord sequences and melody off the cuff and unique. His brain is wires this way and for him, it’s not work or hard, it’s the same as talking

Gifted.
He is great.
Excellent show! Elton John rocks.
Elton John ,,,is such a good person
I'm surprised when they did the Restoration album, which was an album of country musicians doing country versions of Elton John and Bernie Taupin songs, nobody thought to make Candle in the Wind a country song. You'd think they'd get Dolly Parton, Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum, Kenny Chesney, or Luke Combs to sing it. But no. Didn't happen.
I'd enjoy this more if Mr. Lipton didn't keep insisting his guest constantly go back and forth between the interview chair and the piano. Personally, I'd rather hear the stories than the songs, which are readily available elsewhere.
I can tell this was originally broadcast in 2007 or possibly 2008 because of the commercials in it. The Beyoncé Armani Diamonds perfume ad was run in 07 & 08.
