Inside The Abandoned Ames In Wrightstown, NJ

Ойын-сауық

Abandoned Ames Wrightstown, NJ. I was fortunate enough to explore another Ames vacant since 2002. Part was cut out to open the Dollar General which is also abandoned. Enjoy our in-depth exploration as we admire this store that once had hundreds of shoppers inside week in and week out.

Wallie, I know it's Code of Conduct and respect, but you have great restraint in not taking that cart. (That would have gone straight in the back of my truck. 😁) If that building is bought/renovated/torn down, it will be gone anyway. 😥

This will go down as one of your most epic videos. I call you the Ames Ambassador! (and Anthony's an Ames Ambassador too.) What an indepth look at the store and the plaza. It's really a dead retail strip with just the Chinese restaurant open. Amazing that even a church can go out of business!!!! When you went to the part with all the school supplies I thought it must be a failed charter school. Don't know much about charter schools (We have a bunch in Jersey City.) I Hope they weren't having classes there with the collection of stuff there. The Hitler video... was that for the history part of the school day? Creepy. Also glad you never revealed how you and your bud got in. Don't want those people who don't appreciate what you do and the places you film to get in. Places like that need to be respected. And I respect you even more for leaving the Ames cart. Part for the urbexers code. And partly I suggest to show the spirit of Ames will live on. Another ironic thing: Dollar General closing and I've seen three articles saying DG is recession proof and in fact expanding at a crazy rate. Keep those videos coming bud.

WallieB26 , I love your videos but am perplexed why you go as far from Pennsylvania as Maryland, yet I don't recall any of the awesome locations in Toledo, Ohio and Detroit Michigan! You could do both cities and surrounding area's in the same day! I was just in Flint, MI today for a concert and there is an awesome VERY 70's looking Kmart that's been long closed and has all the front windows plywooded, but has VERY old facade and "produce" label scar, and there are a TON of abandoned and interesting places to film in the area from Detroit to Toledo (one hour apart) and also Bowling Green has a very unique dead mall with an open Dunham's Sports, an empty Hills, and a recently closed Elder Beerman! When you likely take the 80/90 Ohio turnpike over from Cleveland area you could stop in Fostoria, Ohio and see an open "BIG K" Kmart that is really a small store with a BIG K facade slapped on it in the center, but still has those one foot tall windows across the front that are above eye level

I grew up in Wrightstown in the 1970's and 80's. That Ames was originally built as a Grants, and then a Jamesway - all department stores. In the 80's my best friends' mom was the general manager of Jamesway. It was comparable to a Target or Kmart Store. It was huge and my fav. store as a teenager. It looked smaller in your vid, but you said a dollar store is using some of the space. Next door, was the Acme. Also a huge store. I think it's been torn down. I now live not far away in Pennsylvania and I visit the Wrigthtstown area often to see friends. Thanks for the memories!

I enjoy watching you guys walk through these once great places. Brings back memories of being a kid. Just a heads up though, the reason the floors look like that is because they're covered in mastic which contains asbestos which can stick to your shoes and come home with you. I've noticed in a few of your videos loose 8x8 tiles, they also contain asbestos. Keep an eye out and steer clear of that shit man. Once its kicked up into the air, that's all she wrote lol So tread lightly, watch your step and thanks for the nostalgia Wallie!

Ames was the chain of acquisitions. They built up their empire buying out other stores that were struggling, explaining why they mostly all looked a little different. I'm not sure if there was ever an Ames store than that was built from the ground up as Ames. They would just kind of pop up wherever there were struggling stores. In my town alone, there was an Ames that bought out a Murphy Mart and then closed during the first bankruptcy, and later another Ames that bought out a Hills in the late 90s, and closed when the company folded. Take them as a case study on how purchasing mountains of debt in order to have more assets is not a viable business strategy for growth. Not that it's an option at this point with the undesirable state of retail itself.

This is incredible coming across this video! It came up as a suggestion. I grew up going to this store and remember as far back as when it was still a Jamesway. In resent years I've developed an interest in actively exploring abandoned places. Although department stores never interested me as much as industrial places, old homes and so forth. I came here in 2017 to take some pictures. I only explored the exterior though. There was security there as I was walking around. I've lived in the general area my whole life. I figured I had to check this out before it's gone. Fortunately it's still there where as some of the other iconic places such as The Satellite Lounge have been torn down.

I was in that area a few months ago and had no idea they had an Ames. Have you been to the abandoned Bradlees in Hazlet, NJ

Leo Salsero Oh no 🤦‍♂️ that's a step back in time. My parents bought a brand new Levitt home in Matawan 1964. My nan loved to go there when they visited. Feel like it might have been a Stop & Shop at one time.

Just to let everyone know before this place became Ames it was also known as Jamesway. It's too bad Wrightstown does not have a department store anymore. At one point Wrightstown with the place to be. And had more stuff then Browns Mills

Which door did you get in through? Did you try it and it opened or was it already open? This is why I prefer you don't jump-cut your way inside so we can see the moment of discovery!
