That *once was just 3 weeks ago .

This race will go down as one of the greatest races in F1 history. Whether you are a fan or not of Checo, the circumstances were almost of a fairy tale. Him getting dropped from the team and not knowing if he would have a seat the following year, having always been in a midfield car and never won a race and to top it all off dropping to last place in the race and finishing first was nothing short of amazing. So glad RB signed him. the battles between him and Hamilton in 2021 were nothing short of legendary. Fast forward, October 2022 and having just won Singapore GP, Checo is having the best moment of his career. Vamos Checo!!!

I can clearly remember I saw a short interview of him that year asking this thoughts on ferrari and RB looking to sign a new driver and he said "that's too far ahead" and now look at that 🥹🥹

It was touching when Checo told Luis that,make sure his son was watching the race. He undoubtedly wanted his son to have a lesson on how to fight in life no matter what the obstacles.

Sure I wanted George to win, but if it couldn’t be him, I’m thrilled it was Checo. This is one of the most impressive things I have ever seen in F1.

I am following F1 from last two-three years, but this race made me a true fan of formula one. Every year we get very few races where top championship leaders with best cars are not fighting for victory. This race was about a man who has no confirmed driving seat, last on first lap, fighting for his survival in formula one and despite all of this checo rose like a phoenix and won this race. Thank you Checo.

This will forever be my favorite F1 moment.

I really think this might be the best race ever driven by a non world champion. Maybe at least top 2 or 3. Gotta respect the Mosses and other fellas that had their moments of unbeatableness. But this was a breathtaking drive by checo. Felt like a movie when I watched it for the first time

It is safe to say that Checo is the one rare driver that has no anti-fan. No matter that you're with RBR, Mercedes, or Ferrari, you just cannot hate him.

@@jcas I'm genuinely curious about this. Where Albon and Gasly hated too? Did they hated Perez from the start? Do they hate Perez' attitude or just that he's not European?

From what I’ve seen so far, Checo will go down in F1 history as one of the best team players; a selfless man, a great driver and a true legend. Legends don’t need podiums, but I’m glad he got one.

same story for me... I was into F1 mid 70's then Life happened lol... my interest rekindled just before Zandvoort Dutch Open 2021... a lot of catching up to do but absolutely tracing back many of Checo's races.

And he just got 2nd place at Silverstone from down last. Sensational, he deserves the spot in F1 like no other. Keep it up Checo!

The first time i saw this race i cried so hard because seeing a proud Mexican winning his first race was so special! As a mexican myself it was soo special to see a fellow mexican winning it all was so emotional. 😭

Watching this after Checo Perez took #1 in the Monaco GP just hours ago. What a pilot!

Potentially my favorite story in all the 15 years I've been following F1. Especially if you add in the fact that his car broke down from P3 before that and he got his 4 year contract at his team from the past ~7 seasons breached to make room for someone else, right as they were going to rebrand and he was without a seat at this point in time. This mans career has been extraordinary. From the hyped youngster, to the overeager hotshot at McLaren, to being the king of the midfield at the team he built up and saved from bankruptcy, to being kicked for Vettel (who in the form of the past 3 years is imo a downgrade to checo), to saving his career with this drive (and others where he gapped the midfield by 20s and finished 4th) and now being able to add a final chapter at a top team

Checo’s always been the pride of Mexico. So excited to see him battle for World Champion this year!

I come back ever so often, it never gets old!

I am a die-hard Checo fan, I cry every time I saw this race, video, etc anything about this race. But I can't simply imagine how Russell felt after that last box call, simply it's heartbreaking. Checo deserved but Russell got a great great future ahead of him. My only wish is seeing Checo as a world champ one day or another. Hope he gets it.

This is one of the top 5 most exciting and emotional moments for me in F1. It couldn't have happened to a more deserving driver, and man.

2023 and he just won his 5th grand prix, Sakhir 🏆, Azerbaijan 🏆 Monaco 🏆 Singapore 🏆 and Jeddah 🏆🥇, hope more to come.

I remember being on the edge of my seat while watching this race. For the last 10 laps, I was praying the car wouldn't fail him and that he wouldn't cave under the pressure. I cried when he cried over the radio.

I never thought I'd hear the Mexican national anthem play with the Mexican flag in the center of the podium. Tears immediately flooded my eyes and I couldn't contain the emotion. I started crying because Checho did it fair and square. It's been almost 20 years I've been following F1, and I didn't think I'd see those images in my generation.

This was the race that made me a Checo fan, my husband and I became fans of Formula One but I didn't have a dog in the fight yet. This race brought me to tears when he says in Spanish, make sure Checo(his son) is watching 🥹 he stole my little 🇲🇽Mexican💚🤍❤ heart! I've loved watching him ever since. 2022 hurt by 🤬3 pts, come on 2023👏🏼🙌🏼

The thing about this race is that is so poetic in that it mirrors Checo’s career itself. He started with big promises and big podiums in 2012, went to a big team but after that he fell hard from the top and has ever since 2014 slowly climbing back step by step to a big team where he can do great stuff. The comeback king!

I think this is much better story than Gasly's win. Perez was demoted from McLaren got in the midfield team. Saved Force India/Racing Point from going bankrupt, saved all those engineers, mechanics, factory workers and everyone from getting fired and then Strolls turned away from him to get Vettel. It was his (at the time) penultimate race in F1. Without seat for 2021 he really shone in the closing rounds of the season. Finally he got his first ever victory after 190 race starts and he absolutely deserved it. And it got him his second chance in a big team and he really nailed it. Beautiful story. Checo is a legend.

Gotta revisit this video every once in a while. From not having a seat in F1 to getting his first pole, a win in Monaco and becoming the most successful Mexican driver in F1, what a journey its been for Checo! Can’t wait to see what the future holds for him.

He's currently 15 points behind Verstappen. If he and Leclerc fail to finish next race and Perez finishes well he will take the lead in the Drivers Championship.

He should become the first Mexican driver to win the Mexican Grand Prix. RB should make that their strategic goal. Checo helped Max to win his world title, F1 is a team sports.

One of my favourite drivers going from last to first after getting booted from the team he basically saved? Personally one of my favourite races of all time. So happy for Checo!

One of the best comeback races ever... Checo is really an absolute animal

here we are 3 years later, checo has now 5 race wins, which includes a monaco victory, and double the podium numbers he had before this race, what a man, what a legend, vamos checo
