I've seen this complain a bunch of times but we already have pure non-combat gameplay loops, specifically hauling and mining, with exploration as a future loop (and touring farther on). The point of events isn't to just replace the more generic gameplay loops, it's to combine gameplay loops in a way that encourages cooperation. Many of them have been mostly or almost entirely combat-focused...Xenothreat, Jumptown, etc. All of them have some basic resource aspects but it's not a primary focus. None of the current dynamic events would benefit much from someone showing up in a Caterpillar, for example. The blockade missions focus *more* on cargo and logistics. Bringing in a big cargo ship with a strong escort is going to save you a lot of time and avoid potentially losing cargo. But it would be weird for an event involving blockades and pirates to have no combat.

Exactly. Where is tonyZ? Where are actual economy missions/mechanism? We get instead another buggy, boring michael bay episode with a different flavor.
Idk why there can't be some form of "Disaster Aid" event where there's like a fire or outbreak or something and we just have to deliver medical supplies and support. I guarantee something that simple would still have people interested

Honestly blockade runner sounds like a completely missed opportunity. 1. They preface it by saying missions are too combat focused, then they make it so the mission is combat focused. 2. If the station is being blockaded, they will need more resources than just the boxes that were stolen. They could have created a wish list of items (food, water, medical etc) which players could acquire, run the blockade and deliver for huge mark up bonuses. At least this way you can solo the mission if there isn’t anyone around to protect you. 3. There could be an overwhelming number of injured people on the station. Anyone with a med bed could try to get in and heal some of the people (ai) and get a reward.

Combat will always be possible, but I think they should have a whole separate team that designs missions under the premise "what are the most fun and interesting missions we can design, if there were NO SUCH THING AS COMBAT in this entire game?"

I’m with you on #2 except that running solo, you’d still need to deal with the blockade ships (which is fine). It should be about breaking thru the blockade to deliver necessities

We have heard the players' concerns and complaints about elevators, and our dev teams are hard at work creating more and bigger elevators. Elevators for ships. Elevators for cargo. You get an Elevator! You get an Elevator! Elevators all the way down!

@@asiftalpur3758 because they would be doing double work, if they focused on stability to the point of making it near perfect, they would have to do that every single time they drop a patch. Making development take longer. Every patch destabilizes games and is full of bugs. Even blizzard 15 years after they released the content, re-released Classic, every patch, even though they already released it before, had bugs and stability problems and they had to scramble to fix them. And that was just the re-release of a completed game.

Can we please get Mobiglass functionality that lets you see what cargo is in any of your ships? That is so annoying that you can only check at a trade terminal, and only if that ship is physically at that location!

@@kitsterlingstratton2859 Pretty sure it shows in Nik Nax/Assets. That app is admittedly pretty clunky and awful to use, but works "well enough" in a pinch.
So the games first cargo event is based on combat? After 12 years, little surprises me any more with this project but this just about sums things up at this point.

@@zachx1933 That is exactly what they want. Look at Elite, people doing "strategic" cargo hauling while hiding in a solo instance. Great "gameplay".
Speaking of Dunkirk moments, maybe when NPC passenger transport is a thing, we could have rescue/evacuation missions where we have to save people off a station or stricken ships. That can include both collecting escape pods as well as collecting conscious and unconscious NPCs that are in EVA or still stuck on board. Some NPCs should also require immediate medical attention. Secondary intrigue can be added by (sometimes) tasking those with the appropriate faction reputations to not rescue people but use the opportunity to secure or steal cargo/data amid the chaos, assassinate or rescue a VIP, or stop/prevent a reactor meltdown or similar calamity and thus buy more time.

Great idea, hope this makes its way to CIG. I'm sure they are tossing around a lot of ideas for later, when more of the mechanics are fleshed out. Someone else mentioned a Hurston worker uprising... after we get restraints and non-lethal weapons there could be an event where you sign up to help the workers, or help Hurston. Helping Hurston, you're subduing, restraining, and detaining people. Helping the workers, you're bringing medical aid and supplies, helping to secure territory, hacking systems to claim them for the workers, etc.

Cargo loading is very drawn out now. I have managed to load 4 cans onto a C2 before the server crashed again. I was unable to test getting cargo from an outpost because various bugs prevented me from getting there.

@@carstenschops7797 yeah just watching them load this all manually is just frustrating. It would be nice if there was some balance between realism and the fact that this is a game and maybe we all don't want to spend 30 minutes moving boxes with a laser beam, just to crash...

@@carstenschops7797 A good majority of bugs is just the server being overloaded with content. This is why server meshing is needed so badly, and why we don't have hundreds of missions yet.

@@kungfuhiker8793 Dont. "Master" modes thinks the tractor is a weapon, so you cannot use it to tow something in quantum. Stupidest limitation ive ever seen. Get a Vulture instead.
Can you guys PLEASE take one of those screens in the Hull C's cockpit and turn it into a Asop / Cargo Terminal that connects to the nearest station to the ship's location so that we can do any 'computer work' there, rather than having to dock the ship, run halfway across the station, make 1 single action, run all the way back, undock, do that one action, re-dock, make that run again, do another action, run back again, undock, then do that action.?? Please? The "Doubled up to the point of Pain" gameplay loop for Hull C's is literal pain....
I hope at some point in not too distant a future we get non-profit delivery missions - some hardware in a remote weather outpost has broken and needs replacement parts delivered; an environmental group is asking pilots to collect containers of soil samples of endangered flora species from Hurston to deliver to a lab or a plant conservation farm; a militant union of exploited HD workers has taken over a facility of that corporation and is requesting people to help with supplies of arms; etc, etc, all in return for some non-financial rewards and/or rep. Would involve so many people who are into cause-driven gameplay and not interested in money-making into this cargo gameplay that so much of dev resource has gone into.

@@CallMeTeach2 I mean, it's a two-way process - you create a universe design where different things exist, people who start doing those things will emerge. The numbers should not be decisive given how CIG constantly says they want a "living, breathing" universe design of a social simulation. You can't have that if you only facilitate combat content.

Use your tractor beam to hit them with a box until they leave you alone or leave this mortal coil
To encourage multicrew delivery add bigger payouts the faster stuff gets delivery, like a "Tip" system for doing a faster job than possible by a single person. Without aUEC payouts around speed there's no point in multi crewing.

@@carstenschops7797 You don't even need to really steal it in the classic sense. Going by what the Evos found out in the current patch you can simply walk up to the terminal for the freight elevator that someone else called up with cargo and send it back down, which will transfer the stuff that's on the elevator to your own inventory.

When at Outposts loading/unloading cargo, how do you plan to prevent others from interfering seeing as though both ship and cargo lift will need to be open and you'll not be able to shoot others because of green zones?

They don't... taking cargo that's for a mission you have not accepted... is stealing, which is what those people will get. A crimestat. Personally, I'm all for it. True freedom with consequences. We just need hi-sec and low-sec systems established in the game for this to be smoother for players. Want safety at the cost of low profits? stay in hi-sec areas. Want high profits? Go to low-sec places, but best to bring escort.

@@realtimbotube The current system is a placeholder. Armistice zones were always planned to be temporary measures until proper consequence and the law system could take over.

You can have loading/unloading done for you in the 3.24 patch. They've reported this several times, and it's been known for ages that this would be the necessary temporary solution until older ships that were ready for physical cargo get their updates. Your Carrack still has loads of uses.

You use the Drake Mule when you have a mission box and want it to get stuck and unrecoverable so you fail the mission.

It was filler work to onboard new designers and artists, as are most small craft that are used as "break periods" between larger, more complex deliverables (big ships). This has always been the case, and will always be the case: they have explained how this works in literally almost every single discussion about the ship teams. Literally every single time the ship teams have talked publicly about large vs small deliverables, they have explained this universal fact of game development.

It's the smallest vehicle that has an enclosed cockpit. Fits in the vulture, Cutty Red, walkway of a C2 between the cargo grids, and it looks awesome with the green Halloween skin.

Using a Hull C in one system doesn't make any sense to begin with. It should've waited to come out until we had more systems for it to travel to. It's useless right now and it'll stay that way until it has longer travel times through other systems.

They said just in the last week that they have a team actively working on a rework of docking right now, and that it's a high priority. Not surprising, as it'll also be needed so they can release the Legionnaire soon-ish. I don't recall if the placeholder Hull C cargo loading mechanic was also getting any love RN.

What if there are several Iron mines on moons around a planet and another planet uses that iron, in massive quantities, to build oh...I don't know C2/M2/A2s (Crusader) or Weapons (Hurston). Wouldn't the most efficient way to move the iron from one planet to another or all other planets in a single route be in a Hull?

Are you saying that in a universe where thousand of pleayers will be no one will disrupt your loading of freight elevators while handling your quests/gear? How will this be resolved to stop people stealing from each other?
Just get rid of the criminals and combat, for crying out loud. What cargo haulers need is a "Berlin Airlift" style event, with ZERO combat.

I think they stopped letting Tony Z talk on camera, because he was too open. Talked too much about things they wanted to do but may or may not deliver. He'll probably get a panel at CitizenCon though.
Please make cargo events for ALL sizes... anywhere from single seater cargo ships (2-6) SCU and up! Low volume, high value AND high volume, low value. I want to be a smuggler! I have a 315p decked out in stealth components and distortion weapons for this purpose.
What if i wait a transporter and i steel his cargo when he start to move the scu ? Can this guy defend himself or did he just get robbed and can do nothing about it ?

I was unable to verify this so far, but the armistice at bigger outposts is still present. My guess is: yes, you are screwed. Also, boarding ships is really easy now since they have to be open for extended periods of time..

apparently if you call up cargo in an elevator another player can just run up to the terminal send it back down and then it is theirs. i call that peak game design.

Presumably, that is theft, and the law engine knows it's theft. If you are getting commodity delivery missions from Contracts that track "pre-purchased" cargo crates that are explicitly flagged as stolen if they are stolen, then I think it's pretty safe to say that exact same tech will be used for player theft. Somebody has boxes called up from an elevator, and you tractor beam them out of their elevator, and you aren't in their party? Law violation. Presumably, they will permit you to defend goods from being stolen: which is to say, if somebody tractors or grabs one of your flagged cargo in an area that has law enforcement (which nearly all landing pads, and every single hangar, does) you can then shoot them in the head, legally. I think shooting a thief in the head is a pretty good protection against theft. Conversely, if the area is more threatening then just a single other player, you'll probably just *not use the hangar and avoid the risk of theft and/or death.* Literally all of that sounds exactly like the intended gameplay loops, to me. I don't know where you could be getting the idea from that *every single time you use the cargo elevators you are going to have an absolute 0% chance of player theft occurring,* when it's pretty obvious that they don't intend the system to be theft proof, given that would be a reduction of viable gameplay loops, and we know full well they intend for piracy and outlawry to be a fully legitimate gameplay style. TL:DR: He's getting robbed, and he can defend himself. If he fails to defend his cargo, it's going to get stolen. That's how theft works.
This looks like a lot of fun! Can't wait to try it. You hit it on the head, the Fun of XT is that banding together in whatever roles we most enjoy and all having a hand in getting it done even if all we want to do is be the air superiority, or the hauler, or the loaders, or the entry force breaching the ship and clearing ground targets. Would be cool to see a version of it on the surface where the cargo is already on the ground in the open defended by ground forces, requiring tanks and drop ships to breach the perimeter. Can't just bomb it if the cargo will be in the way so we HAVE to bring the fight to the surface. Or a mix of this but for solo/small groups as with mrt hrt vhrt and ert type missions..but with cargo so it's not IF, but WHEN I WILL be interdicted by various enemies and have to take them out to continue my delivery. Make my Andromeda and Corsair, or fully Crewed A2 really feel like the only right choices for the job. Give me a reason to HAVE to leave my Inferno, Hornet, etc at home to succeed.
I never liked the 9 Tails lockdown, but this sounds a lot more interesting.
.... But will the station assign a hanger when i press Alt + n?? Will the elevator work when i press 8 times? Will the boxes glitch? Will my ship randomly start spinning in outerspace and crash into the station with all the cargo in it? - all those things happened to me yesterday; Asia server.

No, but you can spawn an Ursa in your hanger, drive it off the pad, spawn your ship then drive it inside

is it now possible to open the cargo hold of the carrack to load it with the new system ?
I can imagine a gun running ring starting in Grim Hex with players buying and selling from what they loot during missions undercutting the NPC stores
So whats stopping me from showing up at an outpost and taking the cargo from your hangar for myself?

Oh i have my little toe tickeling. That normally happens before big desatsters. Players vs NPCs with distortion weapons advised and not killing the enemy ships while every player knows qhere thise ships are and where they will go to...... I have absolutely NO IDEA how this could POSSIBLY ever go horribly wrong. 😂😂😂
Has things been done to keep cargo from disappearing out of existence? When loading/unloading.

Although the advanced technologies available to them, combined with their training, their charter gives them great freedom of action in the use of force, it is rare to witness Marine Operations in civilized space and when that is the case everyone in the area understands that it is a place to avoid at all costs.
There should be some kind of weight limit for these tractor beam guns. Pretty unrealistic watching a small person lifting a gigantic shipping container.

They do have a weight limit. The ptv or stv is their limit in terms of weight then you move up to the 2 handed version to lift tanks and even some smaller ships

The tractor beam is totally normal though, but imagining a tractor beam that can make a large weight more manageable is where you draw the line I guess.

@@jful yea in lore it's supposed to be from manipulating gravity fields using the powerful battery's in the gun but the battery's currently aren't used but I think they said in 3.24 that the consumption will be turned on so at least it's not a forever beam currently
Wanna say thanks to the devs that take the time to sit in front of a camera to do this for us, it isn't natural or comfortable and is probably well outside of their comfort zone. Cheers lads.

I've been waiting for cargo hauling missions since the PU went live! Grinding on low value cargo until you have enough capital to make decent money is painful (without explouts)! Being able to make that money on someone elses cargo is what us haulers have been missing!!
So...Nine tails player side will know exactly where to camp for supply ?
Looking forward to this new iteration of lockdown. Thanks to all the devs who jump on these to share their thoughts.
Cargo need some love for sure. And hope we get some ultra rare and supper valuable cargo in the future. Not everything has to be about how much scu you can carry....

(QUESTION) can we have time based cargo that require you to pickup cargo where another player is waiting for said cargo , and if the cargo doesn't get picked up by the other player whether that been pirated or player face plants his ship into a the ground it has a knock on effect to prices across the verse.

How does the cargo elevators work with the Hull C? You need the spindles to be extended to attach cargo!

you will have to park the hull c outside of atmo and use a smaller cargo ship to offload the hull c and bring it to the spaceport to store in the cargo elevator. will need a crew to move boxes and a crew to defend the hull C while in orbit and a crew to defend the ferry ship. or stick to your space stations and 5 hour wait time. hull C is not a solo ship if wanting to use hanger elevators. you might luck out in a dead server from time to time tho

I would suggest you reserve your Hull C for Station to Station hauls. Which is exactly what it's for.

How about putting a cargo grid in the 600I explorer and a sale button to for fuel at all locations for my starfarer so it not a $330 pixel, sitting in my hanger
Could not do the last part of Xenothreat with my son due to things not spawning in. Still waiting on a support ticket after 17 days and I am afraid we missed getting the armor. Not really excited about another event until everything works.

all previous events have been about combat so we changed it up to make it MORE combat lol
What worries me is that there does not seem to be anything stopping pirates from just sitting at an outpost and waiting for someone to ask for cargo then just tractoring it off his elevator or ramp into their own ship. That means you could have a real (weapons disabled strugge to get all the crates loaded safely then guns & missiles as soon as you leave the AZ. At the end of it the EVR algorithm will say 'You only had to move 10scu from an outpost up to the LEO above. Five minutes max with no risk so we are not paying much ;-)

Luckily, this will not happen at outposts without an armistice where you could defend your cargo. These outposts do not sell items any more.

I loved the original 9Tails lockdown. I loved going around Stanton to fill up on the needed cargo, then *_avoiding_* combat to deliver it. And then, _if I wanted to,_ taking a combat ship out into the fray and pushing back 9Tails. This looks fun, but... it also just looks like a slightly modified, reskinned XenoThreat using the new boxes.
This looks fun. The multi role pickup nature of XT was awesome and it's good to hear the devs agree and want that kind of gameplay to reoccur.
Are you going to put the RAFT, Caterpillar and any other cargo haulers back in the pledge store?

The RAFT, Caterpillar, and indeed *most* ships are only available for purchase for limited time periods throughout the year. This has always been the case. Either watch special event announcements on the main page of CIG's site, and whatever ships may be available during that event, or come back during IAE in November when EVERYTHING is available.

I see that @ 3:19 there is no salvage missions listed on your contract screen. I haven't seen any legal salvage mission since before Xenothreat, so is it removed before events? See @7:27 Salvage missions do show up.

Hope one day we get rid of these ridiculous beams to move stuff around, weren’t they just a place holder till we have forklifters/ loading drones for the Hull series and npc loading crews? Its the most immersive braking thing in the game.
I am actually excited for the hauling missions. I do wish the Carrack would get it's cargo bays working though so I could actually use it for these :(

Will the cargo missions allow for partial payout? IE: If one SCU of cargo is lost, Glitched or even stolen you can still get some reward for the time and effort.
is there any work done on the RAFT? The RAFT is a ship that was specifically made with physicalized cargo in mind but as of now physicalized cargo will break the RAFT , make it unuseable and make it obsolote.
The way they've been handling these dynamic events has been amazing. Mixing together EVA, space combat, and cargo hauling will be a blast and I am excited to see how this work effects other missions.
As always, it looks sick but it's going to be glitchy, laggy and full of unexpected error event. Good for you that you can run SC on your local network.
Blockade running looks great. Then again, i quite enjoy hauling also. I used to do it a lot in eve.
Very interesting, what about the piracy loop related? you will be able to sell big boxes from ships, you attack, with the mission to deliver those commodities?
If current missions are too heavy on combat, why blockade runner and not some relaxing space trucking missions? I really don't get the mission priorities.

Transportation could’ve included so many loop related, interesting mechanics. Different goods you can transport (not only boxes), sensitivity of cargo, finally some news on tony z’s economy mechanics, ingame tools for the economy/trading etc. Instead we get ferrying differently colored boxes from a to b (something we did already before but with our own money as merchants) and another pewpew event.

I mean that's literally what difficulty is for. Veteran players take higher difficulty and makes more, I imagine.
mission seems wonderful! I just hope that server withstands all those debris and scattered cargo well, and mission operates as it was designed to do.
