@@roughwalkers if you’re sat in your seat keep your belt on. If the seatbelt sign is off, then there’s always someone on the toilet and people stood waiting in a row for the toilet. You’re probably one of those obnoxious passengers that kicks the crap out of the seat that’s in front of you, or one of those that can’t help but eat bad food and fart the whole flight away pretending to be alseep anyway. It works both ways

Sad for the loss of the gentleman that died but what a testament to the integrity of the aircraft’s construction and the crews skill in preventing a much worse tragedy.

The ADSB data has been made available. The turbulence event was a few hundred feet. Down 100, then up 200 ft, nearly instantaneous. Very sharp, catastrophic upset. Like a catapult slamming people and trollies hard on ceiling and floor. The pilot then made a rapid emergency controlled descent from 37,000 to 31,000 ft. That’s from the tracking data.

Just trying to understand the context here, taking the distance above. 100FT is like 30m. That's like falling down 15 floors in seconds. And then in the same amount of time, goes back up 30 floors ?! Now i understand the amount of force ..no wonder those compartments broke !?!?!

@@skaijuice3714 The damage to the interior was almost entirely by things and people. Food carts maybe. I thought they were serving a wake up breakfast. People smacking the ceiling. Some panel like where the oxygen masks are stowed, but primarily the damage is by passengers and stuff slamming around.

Exactly; I've heard someone saying; the aircraft lost 6000 ft, that was the crew descending not turbulence.

Sad to hear- & not to forget the crew and pilots who guided the rest to safety- could have been worse.

A big shoutout to the pilots. This was awful for everyone but could have been so much worse. Rip to the gentleman who died & a speedy recovery yo those injured.

Poor reporting, the oxygen masks wouldn't have deployed unless there was a decompression. "The planes emergency systems kicked in" - more likely the panels that retain the masks broke open and the masks consequently fell, as not all of the masks had dropped.

Yeah but think about it like this. This is horrific turbulence and the plane landed and other than a heart attack everyone survived and most walked off the plane. It's actually made me feel the opposite. If a plane can drop 7000 feet in a few seconds and still land and everyone was OK then planes are uber safe.

@@MathewHammond-uh8yp I couldn't agree more. I feel awful for the family of the gentleman who sadly passed away. The fact of the matter is people fear the mass death aspect of flying. But every time you get in a car there is a 1/110 chance you die in a car crash. The chance of a deadly plane crash is like 1/5 million but if you fly with a top 50% airline it's like 1/20 million. People see flying as more dangerous because unfortunately when a plane does have an accident/incident it affects a lot more people at once.

I just can't understand why people take off their seatbelts... you're traveling at 900 km/h, any disturbance would be deadly.

That will be seatbelts being mandatory for whole flights from now on.

Controlled Descend💀💀 bro they frew up, turned upside down, dove down to the ground 🤣🤣... if it was a DP situation, he would need to descend this fast, but barely any masks droped that mean either the system did not kick or it was not a DP situation

Its crazy how people have heart attacks from panicking in stressful situations. That means heart attacks are almost a mental condition where fear causes a physical attack.

I never take seatbelt off when flying and i try avoid going to the loo also....just did bkk-uk return and did exactly as i just said...the pinging of the seatbelt icon going off every 15 mins made me do that and it helps if sleeping that they see it on and leave you alone.

I have developed a fear of flying over the years and these stories don't help. Wish I hadn't heard

It's understandable. I used to have to take medication before flying because I had such an intense fear, nowadays I'm fine-- you just have to conquer your fear but obviously, that's easier said than done. If it helps, I found that I felt safer in Airbus planes rather than Boeings because of the increased space; I felt more comfortable. Those flights also felt much less turbulent than Boeing flights.

This is why my mum made me keep my seatbelt on throughout the whole flight. If you put the blanket over your lap and the seatbelt over it, it’s more comfortable

I remember being on a flight from Dubai to Brisbane and was in the window seat (back in the days of 747's) and the plane dived to the left really quickly, I thought oh Sh~t, turned out an Air Malaysia plane had hit bad turbulence up the road and he (or she) warned all the other pilots behind him, sadly you can just be unlucky

This morning "the plunge" was 6ooo ft, now it`s 7000. I wonder if it will reach 10000 by tomorrow.

Everyone's mis-reporting this - It didn't plunge 6000 ft at all. It dropped something like 150 ft which did all the damage, then the pilots reduced altitude in a _controlled decent_ by 6000 ft. Standard operating procedure to get out of an area of turbulence.

What's the solution? What option else do you have? We should have 1000/km trains in a isolated area at least it will be not flying in the space it will be on surface

RIP the man who passed away, heal well all those who were injured, congratulations to the crew for getting the aircraft on the ground safely, testament to the quality and safety of the builders of the aircraft. A terrible situation all round, but it shows that airline safety has come a long way. 30 years ago, a similar incident would have been catastrophic for everyone on board and the aircraft would have been destroyed.

Just think if the old guy didnt die of a heart attack none of you would know this is a normal everyday thing

This was not a normal everyday thing though. There were literally blotches of blood splattered on the overhead compartments in the video. This doesn’t happen during turbulences on normal flights.

It was a 10 hour flight, are people not supposed to stand up to go to the bathroom? It was during breakfast being served etc. You're blaming people whilst being clueless to the facts. I've been saying it for years that passengers should also wear safety helmets due to rough turbulence.Fighter pilots,military aircrews all have their helmets on but somehow this isn't required for civilians safety.

Over dramatised, it was 100 ft, then a fast pilot controlled decent of 6000ft keep seat belts on !

Is there an update on several others who are in hospital fighting for their lives?

Always put on your seat belt when seated even though there is no 'Fasten Seat Belt' sign switched on. You'll never know when Clear Air Turbulence will hit, and thanks to global warming it will be come a common occurrence.

considering this is the first turbulence death I have ever heard of(i know it has happened) then we should see our technology in the 21st century as a life saver, and not start filing lawsuits. there was a day this plane would have fallen out of the sky after this.

Can Malaysians go a SINGLE day without causing plane to crash?

It's interesting how 2 separate whistle blowers from Boeing were... "died".... As they were speaking out about all the safety issues that Boeing was pushing under the rug. Maybe look into how many Boeing flights as of recent have had near crashes... Something dark is going on with Boeing. Why no investigation on why the plane dropped 6000ft...? Sound to me, maybe an electronics issues... 🤷‍♂️

I don't imagine they will flying the friendly skies again in a hurry, at least not on a Boing.

I’ve no sympathy for people who end up being thrown around during flights. You’re told to keep your seatbelt on throughout the flight and even if it’s tied loosely it prevents injuries. Flight attendants or folk heading to or from the bathroom are at risk, but for the majority of people on an aircraft there’s absolutely no reason why they can’t wear their belt. Common sense is lacking in most people and they end up blaming others when they’ve taken no precautions themselves.

Yeah but who'se gonna pay for the transportation and funeral? Or will it be a gofundme?? Or a refund? Cause he did not reach the destination he had in mind and heart

This could have happened to any airplane. This was not a fault with the airplane.

The masks you see are due to the panels breaking under impact...there was no reduction in cabin pressure so no masks were deployed.
