Inside Pakistan's Smugglers' Market (near Afghanistan)

I go inside a notorious smugglers' market famous for black market goods like stolen U.S. Army and NATO gear from Afghanistan. This is Karkhano Market in the Pakistani border city of Peshawar in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The market is located on the Grand Trunk Road and is at the gateway to the Khyber Pass, which leads to Afghanistan.
Want more from this market? Watch me trying Afghanistan's national food there • Trying Afghanistan's N... .
The smuggled goods and drugs at this market primarily come from Afghanistan.
Due to the war in Afghanistan finishing and the U.S. Army leaving, the market has dried up of guns, ammo, night-vision goggles, flak jackets, and all other stolen American goods. Market vendors are now trying to find new businesses to fill this gap.
If you're a foreigner going to this market, I'd suggest taking a Pashto or Urdu-speaking friend as barely anyone speaks English there. It's also quite dangerous as the surrounding area is a den for drug addicts.

I know Karl is anti-indian now. He cut out the part with the guy carrying a TV because he was rude toward him when Karl said Hi. Only in India does Karl show negative aspects (dont bring up the drug thing, because that exists everywhere). Karl is probably hired by Pakistans propaganda minister I think it would be more fun and honest to show rude people too And if you got cured of depression by a youtube video, then you never had depression lol

@Nonameisperfect I was happy to get off my Super Nintendo and into the PS1. I like wrestling, GTA, and shooters. So Nintendo never really Impressed me. Then I got Halo and that converted me to Xbox, as well as them having the best shooter line up. I was never into Japanese games. But I’ve always owned a PS for the great exclusives. I bought a Switch OLED only a few months ago (a video is coming about that store). Breath of the Wild is amazing 🤩 So I’m enjoying the Switch atm, cause I don’t have a TV currently.

Thanks for sharing a wonderful vlog. It took me down the memory line when I lived in the University Town on the outskirt of Peshawer and worked at the Project Management Unit of the provincial government building near Sadder in 1992. We were the consultant for Asian Development Bank and worked on an Infrastructure Improvement Project. Bara market used to be located after Hyatabad and before that it was in Landikotal. I enjoyed my stay and loved the food, the culture, the people, and the generosity and hospitality of Pushtoons. I wish can travel back one day to see how much it is changed now. Stay blessed. Love from a Pakistani American,

This is true, but the small percentage that aren't so nice see a western white man as the ultimate prize. Only takes one to end it all and nobody will come looking for him in that part of the world. It's cool he does this but would be silly to ignore the fact he's in a very dangerous place for a westerner. Probably about as dangerous as it gets for a man like him.

My late father, a veteran of WW2 1st marine division. Told me of how they were going through a small village on an island Guadalcanal, Okinawa or Pellieu can’t remember now. But the old ladies were sitting outside making tea and invited him to sit and drink with them. He did and told me the Japanese were just like us in many ways. Despite the horrors inflicted on each side, he had respect for the soldiers he fought against and spoke of the horrible waste of life on both sides. They were all just doing their jobs for country or emperor.

This video was the first one of yours that I have watched. I loved it! It felt like I was walking through the market with you. Absolutely lovely people. That market was amazing, and the people were so friendly and inviting. Hopefully one day I can visit.

If a Kiwi can explore the markets of Pakistan and be treated as a human being and a guest, what's preventing Indians and Pakistanis from coming together as brothers and sisters? What a beautiful country!

Excellent vlog Karl. Just wanted to point out that since you were trying to speak Urdu, you used some Hindi words instead in your talk. Here are the Urdu equivalents: Sundar (Hindi) = Khoobsoorat (Urdu) Shanti (Hindi) = Aman (Urdu)

I just found your channel and I am enamored. Thank you for showing us these places, it is so interesting. I really value getting to see what it is like there, especially as someone who will likely never get to travel to such far places. This level of sharing experiences really exemplifies the beauty of the internet. This gives a totally different perspective compared to how Pakistan is portrayed in the western media. It helps to make the world seem like a smaller place, seeing how the everyday person lives their lives there. Blessings to you and your wife.
