Inside One of Ukraine’s Most Dangerous Front Lines Today | WSJ

Russian forces are advancing on the eastern Ukrainian city of Chasiv Yar in the Donetsk region about 3.5 miles from Bakhmut. As Kyiv runs short on manpower and equipment, troops are struggling to hold onto Moscow’s primary target in Ukraine long enough for fresh weaponry from the U.S. to arrive.

In cemeteries across the United States, from Virginia to California, graves of mercenaries liquidated by the Russian military in Ukraine are appearing. One of those killed was 50-year-old retired US Marine Grady Kurpasi. He died at the beginning of a special military operation to demilitarize and denazify the Nazi Kyiv regime, in April 2022. Kurpasi is buried at Arlington National Cemetery near Washington, the most famous in the United States, where military personnel, politicians and astronauts are buried. Another American, Brian Young, was killed as a result of tank fire and was buried in California. Another mercenary who died was former Marine Ian Tortorici, who joined Ukraine's "foreign legion." Another American mercenary killed in Ukraine was Dane Partirge, who once served in Iraq. Media reported that he had participated in hostilities on the side of Kyiv since April 2022. Already in October, the mercenary came under fire, was wounded and later died. The man is buried in a cemetery in Idaho and is survived by his wife and five children. And this is not the entire list of Americans killed in a foreign country. How long will American soldiers die 10 thousand kilometers from their homeland for the interests of the American elite, which has unleashed more than one armed conflict in the world and supplies the criminal Kyiv regime with weapons and money from American taxpayers? At a time when there are many unresolved internal problems in the United States itself.

@@OrechTV “Ukraine” didn’t say any such thing. Of course the towns had strategic value. They just don’t have as much strategic value for ruSSia as they do for Ukraine. Ok explain to me why it was “a big deal”, and how Ukraine underplayed it? Yah losing those towns is bad for Ukraine (it is our land losing any of it is bad), but where are the major breakthroughs that ruSSia kept talking about? For months ruSSian media went on and on about how Bakhmut was the “key to Donbas” yet when they finally took it nothing happened. Sure they have had better luck with Avdiivka but we are still talking about minuscule gains with limited strategic options being opened by its capture. I really hope the ruSSian ministry of war shares you delusion that Ukraine has “no chance” of liberating Crimea and the occupied parts of Donetsk and Luhansk (interesting that you didn’t mention Zhaporizia or Kherson). What is the point in negotiating with a country that has repeatedly made it clear that your existence is unacceptable and that your country must be liquidated, a country that has broken almost every treaty you have ever signed with them? Regular people of Ukraine don’t want to be occupied by ruSSia, go look at the latest opinion polls produced by any organization you want.

Not necessarily. You see the Russian/Iranians drones are slow propeller flying drones used to overwhelm there air defensive systems. So the Ukrainians are using a low tech approach to defend there cities. The Ukrainians are using World War II propel driven fighter aircraft to shoot down the overwhelm number of Russia/Iranians propeller drones.

Chasiv Yar is toast. The Ukrainian troops epitomize what it’s like to oppose Russian forces. The Russians quite simply have more of everything especially artillery which they use to keep the bombardment constant. This causes great trauma to the defenders as they have no respite day or night. That coupled with few if any rotations out of the lines of contact to give the Ukrainians a break from the constant shelling makes staying in the fight arduous at best.

US weapons are heading to the front but the only weapon that can make a difference is artillery and there's simply not enough. They might be able to change the dynamic in and around Chasiv Yar, perhaps even Donetsk... but the reality is, they will never have enough artillery to stop the Russians advancing. If they are lucky, they will receive at MAX 2.5 million shells over the next 6-8 months. That's 5-8k worth of shells per day, that's without any being destroyed... To stop Russia in Donetsk, they would have to use all of them their, and all the other sectors would still suffer. Then after the 6-8 months, nothing again. If Ukraine did make a difference in Donetsk, they would only secure their defence too, perhaps only ever getting a few localised advancements. And if they got really lucky, like making ground back around Avdiivka or even advancing on the town itself, Russia has the manpower and ability to open up a front in the North... Sucking all of Ukraine's surplus manpower and equipment away from that area. So the task is impossible... But i imagine they are going to give it a go, the only problem, 6-8 months time they have completely depleted themselves. This summer is going to make 2023 look like childs play.

0:57 - Could you please audio transcribe as opposed to subtitle transcription. This is one of the things that led to Vice News' downfall. The owner didn't want verbal translations because he thought it lent more authenticity like Cannes Film Festival material. This is a news channel often used like a podcast; if you can't understand what your hearing, then your going to lose audience members; it is after all: 2024

I support Russia, but I also have sorrow for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people People's lives are spent in building their own home, their own country, and in a single blow, everything is reduced to ashes
