Inside N.M.'s greatest casino scam

It was a high stakes game of fraud and forgery, a casino heist the likes of which New Mexico had never been seen before. The victim: Sandia Casino. The take: More than $1.2 million.

A 50 year sentence for this is unbelievable! I rewinded twice to where they said “50 years” to make sure they weren’t saying “15 years.” They say there is no such thing as victimless crime but I’d say that stealing from a casino is pretty damn close.

Arnold De Shay A very good point, indeed!! 👍🏼😊. If only everyone went into a casino with the same frame of mind I had when I went to Vegas. The money I took into the casinos was pretty much what I could “afford to lose”. And when that base amount was gone, I was done playing. Period. If, when it was time to leave, I had more than my base amount left, I merely considered it to be icing on the cake!! Unfortunately, as we are all painfully aware, there are those people who go there with the express reason to “hit it big”! However, for one reason or another they get caught up in the thrill of win, and usually end up blowing money they can NOT afford to lose. But, I’m guessing/hoping that a great number of people go into casinos just to have fun!

In my country (USA) as long as you commit theft, fraud, etc. you won't get tried much less convicted as long as you are part of a bank or stock company or are part of some other powerful, rich company/group. As far as I'm concerned, good for those guys for getting one over on the casino. If only they had gotten away with it. Rigging games for customers to lose or at least rarely win, countless crimes committed by wallstreet type folk, killing people on an oil rig by ordering unsafe practices also resulting in major environmental and economic damage, etc. etc. etc. with no jail time. You like smoking the "wrong plant" life in jail. Petty theft? Jail time for you. It is no wonder that so many people hate this corrupt system we have. Now when are we going to start doing something about it?

And why does the insurance company want him to pay back the million that they paid the casino? And why was he sentenced to 50 years when known jihadi terrorists have served less? Someone is getting paid backhanders here. This stinks!

Bosefuss DaBrun It's called taxable gambling income. The WG-2s were filed to the taxing authorities by the casino. They don't care who won, they want their tax money. Also, why would he NOT be held accountable for returning the million dollars to the insurance company? He stole the money from the insurance company, and are entitled to get that money back, especially if he was convicted of the crime.

I used to go to casinos once every 3 months, played roulette lost 70% of the time 30% of the time I would win a little, I got to the point when the ball was starting to slow down after it hit all the bumps I could pretty much tell within two or three numbers where it was going to land by the speed, I put $20 down on one number and it was rolling and it was going right towards that number and if it slowed way down almost to a stop and all the sudden that little Leprechaun underneath the ball moved three or four spots on its own I don't know if it was a magnet or what told the dealer cash me out I'm out of here never went back in the casino again.

Casinos are unforgiving, no matter the amount. I worked at Harrah's Tahoe back in the 70's. If they caught an employee steeling, security would cuff that person and parade him thru the casino to send a message.
