200x for me is still the best version of MOTU we got so far. Even though I grew up with the Filmation cartoon. Such a shame they canceled it so quick :(

Chris Page unlike the 200x cartoon Filmation had NO plot and no real origin stories for the characters! Filmation is nice and nostalgic but that’s it.

Seeing how toys have changd for any reason, give the toons or comics to enjoy and watch anytime, but lucky there are pics and trailers to really see what like most so not waste buying if not gonna like the art any.

Scott, I just want to thank you so much for these videos, especially ones on the battles and what would have been with 200x. I've gotten back into MOTU in the last year though I own alot of your wonderful Classics. But your mythos appeals so much to me as I was never a fan of Filmation. 200X and Classics gives me the He Man and Eternia I want. Thank you again so very much.

Once again you have me pining for what could have been & maybe one day we'll all get that! Original MotU has the nostalgia factor going for it as well as the extensive toys. But the 200x series has some awesome stories, feels like a respectful update which was cut down too soon. These stories sound awesome & I want to read the full versions. My wallet is reminding me that I may have to selectively buy some more comics at some point! Thanks for this great video & keep the toy love alive while sharing it!

Great video Scott. Other than the obvious characters and story elements, I never realized how much the 200X series influenced what was done on the line. Using that series to forecast where future seasons (and toys) might have gone and playing that out through the minicomics was really well done. Thanks for laying that out for us and explaining the connection. It really makes a ton of sense and gives us insight into why those decisions were made. As a huge fan of 200X, I must say job well done sir.

I grew up playing with the first He-man toys and I got older in the late 80s so I was bummed out that I wasn't able to keep on playing with them I miss the mini comics I had a huge stack of them I wish I had saved the first ones that way I could at least read them again like I do my other comics I had know idea it went on with the that many series in the mini comics thank you for taking me down my memory lane in my youth is some of the first minis

3 of your videos inspired me to start collecting the New Adventures classics figures. This video, the one on Icarus/Flipshot and Optikk’s. First it was He-Ro 2 and Galactic Skeletor and then Karg and Tuskador. Just got Optikk in (amazing figure).

It never got beyond a concept in my mind and that one image in issue 8. But the idea was we had the tool, and it seemed like a cool way to reissue it! Further details were never worked out.

The thing about a storyline with many main characters changes is that you need to keep people interested in it. If they got emotionally involved with the original characters and Castle Grayskull and then you take them away, you might end up losing your audience. So it's a thin line to walk, balancing innovation with nostalgia. P.S.: somehow the intro volume of your videos is ok, but then your voice comes too low and I have to increase the volume a lot.

It sounds like there was a plan, but I don't know how I would have felt about it. Me, I always felt there were more stories to tell with the original group. I know that business-wise, it wouldn't be practical, but still...

Keep in mind after a few seasons, just the "original group" may have started to get old and the call for fresh characters would have helped kept the show relevant in later seasons. (hypothetically)

@@spectorcreative1872 Marvel and DC have been able to keep the same core characters alive and interesting for over 80 years. Trying to send He-Man into space never made sense to me. Destroying Grayskull and Eternia is definitely a bad idea. How about explore more of the history of Eternia and elaborate on the Grayskull lineage and Preternia first

@@spectorcreative1872 unfortunately, how does that work EVERY time it's tried at retail? I'll be honest with you.....I could seriously have seen interest tapering off from mass retail after the Third Season. I don't care what would've been shown in the series.....it just strays too much from what long-time fans and nostalgic parents would've been used to, and you always say it yourself: you have to pull in more than just the collector. I could see all of this continuing (if Mattel had played its cards right...and historically, they have *not* ), via comics and some mini-statues that...I think also would've slowed down in sales.

Just now seeing. It was always obvious tom the direction the franchise/story was going. When you was talking about the repackaging and what not I couldn't help but think about what they did in the vintage G.I.Joe line. i.e. the tiger force and python patrol factions.

As much as I loved the 200X cartoon, there were a lot of ideas that were in the works I did not like the sound of, including killing off the Sorceress by poison, and making Man-At-Arms into a member of the Snake Men. So it's probably for the best that it ended when it did, before it jumped the shark.

as I told Scooter, above, honestly I don't think the line would've lasted past Season 3/maybe 4 at retail; it just tapers off too much into territory most people don't know enough or honestly care about, and doesn't have the weight and popularity of those other characters. I could've seen it being continued via comic shops and comic books, but you KNOW Mattel just wouldn't be ok with that, so.....outside of the Horde, I think we got everything as well as we were gonna.

I wish the 200X series would finish the way Samurai Jack was, it was so good!

Interesting, ty! I’m in the creative field myself (In my case video games). Digital delivery has vastly changed branding- it’s increasingly more about User Acquisition than the packed goods. Do you see online stores changing how goods are packaged and delivered? Will we see a return to the mail away figure generic white box? I imagine a day soon that toys are purchased as files to 3D print by the consumer- is there product research going on for digital delivery of toys themselves? Curious for your insights.

The first three were reprinted by dark horse in their hardcover. The rest were made by DC and have yet to be reprinted. If you want, I’d say ask DC!

@@spectorcreative1872 One version of Dare he is adopted & people thought he was Adora & Sea Hawks kid. I know I read that somewhere. And I meant She-Ra for the snake armor as it was barely in the mini comic at some point & I went, nice new costume, but it never got explained. I figured a toy was coming when I saw it.

I loved the MYP series. It was a shame we didn't get at least one more season. I would say the same about NA. I didn't appreciate it when I was a kid, didn't even collect any of the toys but watching it later as an adult I enjoyed it a lot more. Should have been able to keep going. I've read what Jack Olesker had planned for season 2 and I think it had a lot of potential.

Another animated show killed before its time!

Hi Scott, i finally managed to get at least 1 of the mini comics, will keep trying for the rest. Question, as good as the mini comics are, they are quite short and only give you kind of a watered down concise version of this fantastic story you had envisioned, would there be any chance that you could get in touch with DC, Dark Horse or MVC (though I think they've gone now) or one of the other big publishing heads and make the full story, really going in depth with all your ideas you had planned..? I know that it would be a massive hit.

I could swear that it was called an abyss... I am not as brushed up on the lore though, been a while. Is that what the blackened HE-MAN is? Is there more than one faker? Thanks for humoring my other comments btw. It says a lot when a guy in your shoes is this level headed, great teams you had too. Really cool work all around through out. Motu would have wound up faded like a lot of others with out the efforts for sure. Not just a simple toy brand at all. A lot of people are happy here, that's what counts.
