INSIDE GRACIE BARRA JIU JITSU! - CULT OR REVOLUTION??
Summer Grading for Gracie Barra South West UK.
Whats up fight fans!
I recently got my Blue belt in BJJ! .... I should have gotten this over a year ago, but multiple injuries, surgeries and over 9 months off the mats, slowed my promotion.
I love Gracie Barra. In my area, Gracie reigns supreme. 20+ gyms within 1.5 hours of my house, all the professors are under the same lineage and the sense of community is brilliant.

What's up fight fans. This video is a bit different, not much to learn, just a nice insight into the family mentality of Gracie Barra Jiujitsu. We aren't a cult, we just care about each other.

Hi, at 17mins, Ross who is promoted to purple, is he a musician? If so, he used to train with us a decade or so ago. Was a nice guy, think he was a blue belt back then, (Buckinghamshire).

I can’t speak for all of them but the one I trained at briefly kinda turned me off with the whole only wearing GB gis, rashguards and shorts and not wanting students to cross train at other gyms. Compared to other gyms it just felt really controlling in a bad way

12 jears, that's what it took me, albeit in my youth, to go from white to black in Judo. No 'junior black belts', no 'in 2 year black belt', just by hard and long work earned belts I see there. Congrats all.

I got my blue belt after 5 months, my coach is from Brazil and speaks very bad English. He wanted to see good technique, engagement, a decent fight iq and I had to roll a lot. He also wanted me to try everything out on the mat. I trained twice a day most of the time. And then I finally got it.

@@DjordjePetrocox lol np man And there’s a policy that blue belts need a minimum of one year of training in order to promote from white Obviously how many times you train a week and how many times you compete play a factor in your blue belt promotion But yiu can’t just go train 6 days a week and expect a blue belt in 6 months or something like that in a GB gym

@@loffarenerik2914 I do and it’s such a cheesy analogy. People liken it to chess because of the strategy component, but all sports have strategy. Bjj isn’t unique in this regard All chess turns are equal, and sequential. I move one piece a predetermined distance/pattern and then you move on piece, and so on and so on until one of us loses. In BJJ there is actually a great incentive for unequal and non-sequential "turns". In an ideal world I will do more than you, and continue to do more than you until I win. There’s many reasons why it’s nothing like chess, people need to stop using this cringe analogy

@@squidguard1What's your rating? I'm 2150 chesscom 2300 lichess and I fully think the analogy is valid. It's like bullet chess. Not everything is caught and you can come back from dead lost positions but there are the Carlsens and Nakamuras who can play your level of classical chess in the bullet time control.

well I think your belt is still very much blue, compared to other people of your weight / age group. A 90 yr old black belt is still a black belt, even though he can no longer roll, he can still teach technique.

I’m a brown belt just after training for about 6 years, also based in England. I’ve always had bad experiences with GB. I used to train at the main one in Birmingham owned by the big man himself (who was hardly there) all the higher belts ended up leaving pretty much I’ve dropped into many GBs across the country, all of them shite except for one. Hate the model, hate the vibe, the warm ups, lack of competitiveness.

They can’t even get their picture taken on the podium after the match they paid, trained and traveled for. Taken from the words of a friend and “ex-member”, “…i had no idea how much knowledge and community there is out there until I left”. Some people just really desire having a sense of power over others. A sense of hierarchy and control. And the money just adds to the temptation. Be sovereign, be true, don’t let anybody hold you back from moving as fast as you like towards your potential.

Ive always wanted to join a cult. I've rolled with trained guys quite a few times. But never join a gym and took classes. Once I get a car I 100% plan on it. If there's one thing I've take away from Rolling with the people who train, it's that jujitsu is legit. I got my ass kicked pretty bad. I did manage to defend an arm bar against a blue belt and end up getting out of the arm back into his guard but once in his guard I had no clue what to do an in under a minute he had back and put me into a RNC, I shoulda just tapped to the arm bar attempt. 😅

I dont think it ticks any boxes... we don't venerate our coaches like gods, although they are amongst some of the most accomplished in the world. We have the ability to leave whenever we want... do they want us in uniform? Yes, that's how we identify as a team. Gracie is taking over, one town at a time and I think the world would be a much better place for it 🤙🏼💙

Nah he doesn’t need a hobby just to train smarter. I’ve been doing jiu jitsu regularly 2 times a week for nearly 10 years and haven’t suffered one major injury. It’s easy to avoid injury, tap often tap early rolling in bjj class is not the world championships and make sure to roll with people who aren’t idiots and if you paired up with an idiot who thinks he’s fighting for the ufc title don’t get into a pissing contest as that’s just how you get hurt. If anyone’s doing that I just usually let them take the position then tap I don’t care I’ve got work the next day that’s more Important than winning a meaningless roll
