    Just had the 1984 a few weeks back - It was one of the best wines from California wines I ever tasted. We thought it was a Bordeaux Premier Cru Classé tasted blind😎

    Excellent video John. I just returned from a business trip to Seattle and brought back some wines that I bought at TW in Bellevue. I would like to see in the future a video for WA wines, not the Cayuse, Quilcedas, and Leonetti, but rather the mid range great wines, maybe in the $ 50 to $100 range. Cheers!

    Your insightful discussion delivers a compelling and captivating glimpse into the rich history and exquisite wines that have made Dominus a cornerstone of the region's winemaking legacy since the 1980s. Greatly enjoyed your detailed exploration of the historic Napanook Vineyard and the nuances of both Dominus Estate and Dominus Napanook wines. Excellent footages and superbly written narrative - definitely a must to watch and one that I can highly recommend to all wine enthusiasts. Also, based on your discussion, Dominus seems to be the perfect Napa Valley wine for me since I’m a serious Bordeaux enthusiast but haven’t yet “warmed up” to the wines from this region primarily because I don’t have much access to them. I’d love to find and try the Napanook Vineyard wine which you have classified as a cellar defender. Last but not least, thank you for the helpful tips and vintage recommendations. Santé, John!

    The only one that I’ve tried is the Napanook. I don’t recall the year, but I liked it. I tend to really enjoy Bordeaux wines the most, as I like a really long finish that isn’t clouded by too much sweetness or fruitiness. There are some Cabernet Sauvignon’s that I like, but I generally prefer something more subtle with greater complexity in the finish. How would Dominus compare with Quintessa? I had a bottle of Quintessa two years ago while out for dinner and I enjoyed it.

  • @AttorneySomm

    @AttorneySomm

    2 ай бұрын

    Thanks! If you enjoyed Napanook and enjoy Quintessa, then you will definitely enjoy Dominus! Dominus is definitely a level up from both of those wines. It has more elegance and finesse than Napanook, but with more intensely-concentrated fruit and a longer finish. It is made in more of a Bordeaux style. It is not 100% Cab S and often includes one or more other Bordeaux grapes as well. For Napa, the wine can be called Cabernet Sauvignon if there is 75% or more Cab S in the blend. I would definitely encourage you to taste it if you get a chance, especially on a bottle with some age.

    Off subject - what is the best discrete vessel to drink better wine out of when I am just spending some time in a nice public park, such as Rittenhouse Sq or Central Park, before an opera concert? I have tried Yeti wine tumblers, but something is off. Wine glasses aren't practical in that situation.

  • @AttorneySomm

    @AttorneySomm

    Great question! I have some wine glasses made of durable plastic that I found at Williams Sonoma. Since many hotels just use stemless glasses in the room now, I travel with them and also use them for situations like you describe, the beach, etc. They don't maintain the temperature like Yeti, but they are the proper shape and don't impact the taste negatively.
