Any mega project must be planned in detail with prudence and caution. Many years of study is needed and top minds must weigh the pro and cons in minute details. It should be a do or die approach and not 'tidak apa' kind of attitude. Forest City in JB suffered the same fate. Any of such project that failed always points to corruption within the management and officials.

if you hv a one party gov, you have no issue in any project provided they are not corrupted. Mahathir had screwed up all agreed projects and paid all penalties. Now M'sia regretted after seeing Whoosh is going faster in Indonesia economy. All projects are connected with the Melaka port, Iskandar shah, and the east coast rail line.

It was destined to be a flop project from the start , too ambitious , it was to attract Chinese Mainland occupant first with a staggering amount of forecasted dwellers but in the end it didn't materialised and that Chinese developers company went down tumbling with a huge amount of default debts and and borrowing.

The part narratived China to by pass Straits of Melaka seems to be very disinformation and author knows nothing about Straits of Melaka nor Malaysia in broader context. Melaka's project has bunch of endless problems start with improper reclamation, earth settlement, substandard construction, reclaimed and building settlement (sinking), flooding to existing city, environment impact and worse of all Melaka lost it's historical values when the historical shore was gone and out of context. >30 years ago extensively studied and masterplan was done by academia professional but was later destroyed and abandoned for profits purpose. Invited Chinese is not to be blame but local politicians initiated these are questionable.

Agree. This is basically part of the demonization & disinformation campaign of China & its BRI by the West (now with India roped in). If one were to scratch deep enough the surface on the video producer, it doesn't surprised anyone it is funded by NED, USAID, USAGM, etc. Notice how the video uses source like that Chapell guy from China Uncensored a YT channel funded by the anti-China cult Falun Gong LOL🤣. And also use of unauthoritative anecdotal serani source from Portugis settlement for their narrative 🤣. That said there's some factual truth in the video, but they're being used to build up a false narrative.

Malaysia have an overcapacity of ports? .. I have dealt with people in Port Klang, Tanjung Pelepas and Pasir Gudang, and they can barely cope with the present amount of cargo as it is. To put things into perspective, Singapore is in the process of their biggest port expansion. Talk about "overcapacity".

The Portuguese (or Kristang) Community are of Portuguese and Malay decent and are just like other ethnic minorities such as the Chinese and Indians and are 100% Malaysian citizens which have nothing to do with modern day Portugal. As citizens, they have the right to voice out concerns over what they fear will destroy their way of life and what little culture they have left. As a Melakan, I can also vouch that there are far too many white elephant projects to justify further development of this new megaproject. If the government is really interested in increasing tourism, they ought to focus on what Melaka already has by focusing resource to restore existing historical monuments and perhaps create replicas of old long gone ones to attract tourists' interest

  • @ViolentCabbage-ym7ko

@@keiththomas1180 I don't understand why when it comes to the Western countries, other races must assimilate to Western culture but when it comes to Asian countries, we must accept them into our culture? When in Rome, do what the Roman do but when in Malaysia, do whatever the hell you want and disregard the local culture? That seems fair! As for the "White elephant" projects that you mentioned, KL is the 6th most visited city in the world after Singapore. Construction sector contributes around Rm53.44 billion or 3.4% of Malaysia's GDP in 2022 and employs around 1.2 million people. Not to mention that it brings foreign direct investments to Malaysia in important areas like manufacturing and services. People called the Petronas Twin Towers a "white elephant" project and yet it is the reason why KL is widely known internationally, with the the towers being the centerpiece o f KL.
