Until my retirement on the 31st, my day job involves certifying the GE9X! We ran one in testing to really, really big numbers; it holds the record for greatest thrust from a turbofan. A real human narrating would be lovely.

45 years ago I walked away I walked away from a training job as bus mechanic in the Long Island New York - Metropolitan Suburban Bus Authority . Left the filthy pits and lived the amazing 80’s as a drummer in LA , and in 93 moved to Maui. A decision I never regret!

I guess the experts know that the fan blades made from composite fiber are better than those made from metal (made at the San Marcos, TX factory).

Rolls Royce were the first with composite blades back in 1970. They were fantastic but not as resilient to bird strikes as Titanium.

@@John-nc4bl GE has just as many problems. Look at the LEAP GE90 AND GEnX engines. Iron contamination more widespread than first thought. The GE9x has been plagued by problems which have impacted delivery of the 777x and delayed certification.

@@John-nc4bl All three of the top turbine manufacturers have problems. A United B787 with GEnx had an engine shut-down over the middle of the Pacific recently as an example, no engine is immune from malfunction.....even GE.

Keeping all manufacturing in North America would be a smart decision. Too bad it's not. Metals sourced from Russia and China. Components sourced from Turkey and Mexico. Not my call. Somebody up there likes to save a buck by going to places that can turn on us in a hart beat.

Why is it the Jet engines keeping on getting bigger and bigger? One thing that frustrates me with jet engines; is it still looks the same way way when the jet engine first came out. Only modified, bigger, and same design as the first design came out. A jet engine is still jet engine. When I look at something I think about how I can make it better. Who is a expert I can talk to about my ideas? I have a idea that could redesign a jet engine and make it safer, faster, and more evolved. I need someone to talk about it for it to work?
